1 The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them.	1 Prophétie contre Tyr: Gémissez, vaisseaux de Tarsis, car tout a été dévasté, plus une maison ne reste. Après leur départ du pays de Kittim, ils en ont reçu la nouvelle.
2 Be still, ye inhabitants of the isle; thou whom the merchants of Zidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished.	2 Vous restez sans voix, habitants de la côte, marchands de Sidon! Tes commis parcouraient les mers,
3 And by great waters the seed of Sihor, the harvest of the river, is her revenue; and she is a mart of nations.	3 ils affrontaient l’océan. Les semences de Chihor, les moissons du Nil étaient ta richesse, tu étais le marché des nations.
4 Be thou ashamed, O Zidon: for the sea hath spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, I travail not, nor bring forth children, neither do I nourish up young men, nor bring up virgins.	4 C’est l’échec, Sidon, forteresse en mer! La reine des mers demande: “N’ai-je donc pas eu d’enfants, n’ai-je jamais connu les douleurs, n’ai-je pas élevé des garçons, fait grandir des filles?”
5 As at the report concerning Egypt, so shall they be sorely pained at the report of Tyre.	5 Quand on le saura là-bas en Égypte, le sort de Tyr les fera trembler.
6 Pass ye over to Tarshish; howl, ye inhabitants of the isle.	6 Retournez donc à Tarsis et laissez se lamenter les habitants de la côte.
7 Is this your joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days? her own feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn.	7 Est-ce là la fière cité dont l’origine remontait aux temps anciens, qui portait au loin ses pas pour y fonder des colonies?
8 Who hath taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honourable of the earth?	8 Qui donc a pris cette décision contre Tyr, la ville qui distribuait les couronnes, dont les commerçants étaient de vrais princes, et les marchands, des grands de la terre?
9 The LORD of hosts hath purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honourable of the earth.	9 C’est Yahvé Sabaot; oui, il l’a décidé pour rabaisser sa splendeur orgueilleuse, pour humilier ces puissants de la terre.
10 Pass through thy land as a river, O daughter of Tarshish: there is no more strength.	10 Travaille la terre désormais, fille de Tarsis, il n’y a plus de port.
11 He stretched out his hand over the sea, he shook the kingdoms: the LORD hath given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy the strong holds thereof.	11 Yahvé a étendu la main sur la mer pour en ébranler les royaumes, il a donné un ordre au sujet de Canaan: ses forteresses seront détruites.
12 And he said, Thou shalt no more rejoice, O thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon: arise, pass over to Chittim; there also shalt thou have no rest.	12 Il a dit: “On ne te verra plus triomphante, fille de Sidon, vierge violentée. Fais la traversée, passe à Kittim, même là tu ne trouveras pas le repos.
13 Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was not, till the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness: they set up the towers thereof, they raised up the palaces thereof; and he brought it to ruin.	13 Regarde le pays des Kaldéens: ce peuple n’existe plus, l’Assyrie l’a livré aux bêtes du désert, ils ont dressé leurs tours, démoli ses palais, ils en ont fait un tas de ruines.
14 Howl, ye ships of Tarshish: for your strength is laid waste.	14 Gémissez, vaisseaux de Tarsis, car tout a été dévasté, plus une maison ne reste.
15 And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot.	15 Mais voici pour plus tard. Tyr sera oubliée pour 70 ans, la durée d’un règne; au bout de 70 ans ce sera pour Tyr comme dans la chanson de la prostituée:
16 Take an harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered.	16 “Prends ta guitare et fais le tour de la ville, prostituée délaissée, joue de ton mieux: peut-être qu’avec tes chansons on se souviendra de toi.”
17 And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth.	17 Après 70 ans Yahvé visitera Tyr. De nouveau elle retrouvera son salaire en se prostituant dans le monde entier avec tous les royaumes de la terre.
18 And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the LORD: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the LORD, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing.	18 Mais ses bénéfices, les cadeaux qu’on lui fait, ne s’accumuleront plus, on ne les mettra pas en réserve. Ses bénéfices seront consacrés à Yahvé, ils iront à ceux qui officient en sa présence; avec cela ils auront bien à manger et ils se vêtiront comme des princes.
