1 Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.	1 Spargi il tuo pane sopra le acque, che passano; perocché dopo lungo tratto di tempo tel troverai.
2 Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.	2 Da la loro porzione ai sette, ed anche agli otto; perocché tu non sai quali sciagure sian per venire sopra la terra.
3 If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.	3 Quando le nuvole sono piene, elle scarica in pioggia sopra la terra. Se l'albero cade verso il mezzodì, o verso settentrione, dovunque cada, ivi si resta.
4 He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.	4 Chi bada ai venti non semina, e chi fa attenzione alle nuvole, non mieterà.
5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.	5 Siccome tu non sai donde venga l'anima, e in qual modo si assodino le ossa nell'utero della donna incinta; così non conosci le altre opere di Dio, facitore di tutte le cose.
6 In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.	6 Spargi di buon mattino la tua semenza, e nemmen la sera sia oziosa la tua mano, perché tu non sai se quella, o piuttosto questa semenza germoglierà: e se verrà bene l'una, e l'altra, tanto meglio.
7 Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:	7 Dolce cosa è la luce, e dilettevole agli occhi è la vista del sole.
8 But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.	8 Ma se un uomo vive molti anni, e questi tutti sempre lieti, deve ricordarsi di quel tempo tenebroso, e di que' lunghi giorni, venuti i quali tutte le passate cose saran convinte di vanità.
9 Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.	9 Goditi adunque, o giovine, di tua fresca età, e sia lieto il tuo cuore ne giorni di tua giovinezza, e segui le inclinazioni del tuo cuore, e quel che piace a' tuoi occhi; ma sappi, che per tutte queste cose ti chiamerà Dio mi discaccia dal tuo cuore l'ira e il male tien lungi dalla tua carne; perocché e la gioventù, e i piaceri sono vanità.
10 Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.
