1 Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.	1 Jette ton pain à la surface des eaux; après un temps il te reviendra.
2 Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.	2 Partage avec des associés, huit plutôt que sept, car tu ne sais pas quel malheur peut frapper le pays.
3 If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.	3 Quand les nuages sont pleins, ils déversent la pluie sur la terre. Comme l’arbre est tombé, que ce soit au nord ou au sud, il reste où il est tombé.
4 He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.	4 Observer le vent, ce n’est pas semer; considérer les nuages, ce n’est pas moissonner.
5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.	5 Tu ne sais pas par où l’esprit est venu à l’enfant dans le sein de la femme enceinte: tu ignores tout autant l’œuvre de Dieu prise dans son ensemble.
6 In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.	6 Sème ton grain au matin, et que le soir encore ta main s’active: tu ne sais pas lequel des deux sera profitable, peut-être l’un et l’autre.
7 Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:	7 Que la lumière est douce, et que c’est bon de voir de nos yeux le soleil!
8 But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.	8 Même après de nombreuses années, que l’homme sache les savourer toutes; mais qu’il garde en tête les jours sombres: pour l’avenir rien n’est sûr.
9 Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.	9 Connais le bonheur, garçon, alors que tu es jeune; dirige bien ton cœur aux jours de ta jeunesse. Choisis toi-même ton chemin, comme il te semble meilleur, sans oublier que Dieu te demandera compte de tout.
10 Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.	10 Ne laisse pas l’amertume s’installer chez toi, ni la maladie dans ton corps: jeunesse et cheveux noirs sont traîtres!
