1 In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.	1 - Al terzo mese da che Israele era uscito dall'Egitto, giunsero, quel giorno, al deserto di Sinai.
2 For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.	2 Partiti da Rafidim, ed arrivati al deserto di Sinai, in quel luogo si accamparono, ed ivi Israele fermò le tende in cospetto del monte.
3 And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;	3 Mosè allora salì a Dio: il Signore infatti lo chiamò dal monte, e gli disse: «Questo dirai alla casa di Giacobbe, e riferirai ai figli di Israele:
4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.	4 - Voi stessi avete veduto quello che ho fatto agli Egiziani, e come vi ho portati quasi sopra ali d'aquila, e v'ho fatti miei.
5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:	5 Se dunque ascolterete la mia voce, e custodirete il mio patto, sarete il mio tesoro fra tutti i popoli; mia infatti è tutta la terra.
6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.	6 Voi sarete per me un regno sacerdotale, un popolo santo. - Questo dunque dirai ai figli d'Israele».
7 And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.	7 Venne Mosè, e, convocati i seniori del popolo, espose loro quanto gli aveva comandato il Signore.
8 And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.	8 E il popolo ad una voce gridò: «Tutto quello che il Signore ha detto, lo faremo». Quando poi Mosè riferì al Signore le parole del popolo,
9 And the LORD said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD.	9 il Signore gli disse: «Ecco, io verrò a te nella caligine d'una nube, acciò il popolo mi senta parlare a te, creda a te in perpetuo». Annunziò dunque Mosè le parole del popolo al Signore,
10 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes,	10 il quale gli disse: «Va' al popolo, e fa' che si purifichi oggi e domani, e si lavino le vesti,
11 And be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.	11 e stiano preparati per il giorno terzo; perché nel terzo giorno il Signore discenderà in presenza di tutto il popolo sul monte Sinai.
12 And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death:	12 Stabilirai de' termini per il popolo, attorno al monte, e gli dirai: - Guardate di non salire il monte e di non toccare i suoi confini. Chi metterà piede sul monte verrà messo a morte;
13 There shall not an hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.	13 nessuno però lo toccherà con le mani, ma sarà preso a sassate o trapassato con frecce; sia un animale, o sia un uomo, più non vivrà. - Quando comincerà a sonare la tromba, allora saliranno al monte».
14 And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.	14 Scese Mosè dal monte al popolo, e lo purificò. E dopo che s'ebbero lavate le vesti,
15 And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not at your wives.	15 disse loro: «Siate preparati per il terzo giorno, e non v'accostate alle vostre mogli».
16 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.	16 Già era venuto il giorno terzo, riluceva il mattino; ed ecco cominciarono a udirsi tuoni, e balenar folgori; ma una nube densissima ricopriva il monte, un suono di tromba si faceva sentire con grande strepito, ed il popolo che era negli accampamenti ebbe paura.
17 And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.	17 Ed avendoli Mosè condotti fuori degli accampamenti incontro a Dio, si fermarono alle radici del monte.
18 And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.	18 Tutto il Sinai fumava, perchè il Signore v'era disceso in mezzo al fuoco; il fumo ne saliva come da una fornace, e tutta la montagna metteva spavento.
19 And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.	19 Il suono della tromba a mano a mano cresceva di forza e durava più a lungo. Mosè parlava, e Dio gli rispondeva.
20 And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.	20 Il Signore discese sul monte Sinai, proprio sulla sommità, e chiamò lassù Mosè. Subito che vi fu,
21 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish.	21 gli disse: «Scendi, ed avverti il popolo, che non osi oltrepassare i termini per vedere il Signore, così che n'abbia a morire un gran numero.
22 And let the priests also, which come near to the LORD, sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them.	22 I sacerdoti che s'accostano al Signore si santifichino, acciò non li percuota».
23 And Moses said unto the LORD, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it.	23 Disse Mosè al Signore: «Non potrà la turba salire sul monte Sinai; perché tu ne li ammonisti, e facesti un comando dicendo: - Segna dei termini attorno al monte, e dichiaralo santo -».
24 And the LORD said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the LORD, lest he break forth upon them.	24 Ed il Signore a lui: «Va', discendi. Salirai tu, ed Aronne con te; i sacerdoti poi ed il popolo non oltrepassino i termini, né salgano verso il Signore, che non li faccia morire».
25 So Moses went down unto the people, and spake unto them.	25 Mosè discese al suo popolo, narrò loro ogni cosa.
