1 In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.	1 Il terzo mese dopo l'uscita d'Israele dalla terra d'Egitto, in questo giorno arrivarono nella solitudine del Sinai.
2 For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.	2 Imperocché partiti da Raphidim, e giunti al deserto del Sinai posero in quel luogo gli alloggiamenti, e ivi Israele si attendò dirimpetto al monte.
3 And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;	3 E Mosè salì verso Dio, e il Signore lo chiamò dalla cima del monte, e disse: Queste cose dirai alla casa di Giacobbe, e le annunzierai a' figliuoli d'Israele:
4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.	4 Voi stessi avete veduto quel ch'io feci agli Egiziani, come io vi ho portati sulle ali, qual aquila, e vi ho presi per me.
5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:	5 Se adunque voi udirete la mia voce, e osserverete il mio patto, voi sarete tra tutti i popoli la mia eletta porzione: perocché mia ella è tutta la terra:
6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.	6 E voi sarete mio regno sacerdotale, e nazione santa. Queste son le parole, che tu dirai a' figliuoli d'Israele.
7 And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.	7 Andò Mosè; e raunati gli anziani del popolo, espose tutto quello che il Signore gli avea ordinato.
8 And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.	8 E tutto il popolo concordemente rispose: Noi farem tutto quello che ha detto il Signore. E avendo Mosè riferite al Signore le parole del popolo,
9 And the LORD said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD.	9 Il Signore gli disse: Io verrò tosto a te nell'oscurità di una nuvola, affinché il popolo mi senta parlare a te, e presti a te fede perpetuamente. Riferì adunque Mosè al Signore le parole del popolo.
10 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes,	10 Ed ei gli disse: Va' a trovare il popolo, e fa, che si purifichino oggi, e domani, e lavino le loro vesti.
11 And be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.	11 E sieno preparati pel terzo giorno: perocché il terzo giorno scenderà il Signore davanti a tutto il popolo sul monte Sinai.
12 And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death:	12 E tu fisserai all'intorno i limiti al popolo, e dirai loro: Guardatevi dal salire al monte, e dal toccare i confini di esso: chiunque toccherà il monte, morrà senza remissione.
13 There shall not an hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.	13 Mano d'uomo nol toccherà, ma sarà oppresso con sassi, ovvero trafitto con frecce: sia giumento, sia uomo, non vivrà: quando comincerà a sonare la tromba, allora salgano verso il monte.
14 And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.	14 E Mosè scese dal monte; e tornato al popolo lo purificò. E quando ebber lavate le loro vesti,
15 And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not at your wives.	15 Disse loro: State apparecchiati pel terzo giorno, e separatevi dalle vostre mogli.
16 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.	16 E già era venuto il terzo dì, e splendeva il mattino, quando ecco che principiarono a sentirsi de' tuoni, e a sfolgoreggiare i lampi, e una foltissima nebbia ricoperse il monte, e Io squillante suono della tromba rimbombava fortemente: e il popolo, che era dentro agli alloggiamenti, s'intimorì.
17 And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.	17 E avendoli Mosè condotti fuori degli alloggiamenti incontro a Dio, si fermarono alle falde del monte.
18 And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.	18 E tutto il monte Sinai gettava fumo, perché il Signore ivi era disceso in mezzo al fuoco, e il fumo ne usciva, come da una fornace, e tutto il monte metteva terrore.
19 And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.	19 E il suono della tromba appoco appoco si faceva più forte, e più penetrante. Mosè parlava, e il Signore gli rispondeva.
20 And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.	20 E discese il Signore sul monte Sinai, sulla cima stessa del monte, e chiamò Mosè su quella sommità. Il quale essendovi salito,
21 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish.	21 Gli disse: Scendi a basso, e fa' sapere al popolo, che a sorte non pensasse a valicare i confini per vedere il Signore, onde moltissimi di loro avessero a perire.
22 And let the priests also, which come near to the LORD, sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them.	22 I sacerdoti eziandio, i quali si accostano al Signore, si purifichino, affinché egli non gli uccida.
23 And Moses said unto the LORD, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it.	23 E Mosè disse al Signore: Non è possibile, che la moltitudine salga al monte Sinai: mentre tu hai intimato, e comandato dicendo: Metti i confini intorno al monte, e santificalo.
24 And the LORD said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the LORD, lest he break forth upon them.	24 E il Signore a lui: Va’, scendi, e salirai tu, e teco Aronne: i sacerdoti poi, e il popolo non oltrepassino i limiti, e non salgano verso il Signore, che forse ei non gli uccida.
25 So Moses went down unto the people, and spake unto them.	25 E Mosè discese, e riferì ogni cosa al popolo.
