1 On that day did the king Ahasuerus give the house of Haman the Jews' enemy unto Esther the queen. And Mordecai came before the king; for Esther had told what he was unto her.	1 No mesmo dia doou o rei Assuero à rainha Ester a casa de Aman, inimigo dos Judeus, e Mardoqueu foi apresentado ao rei, porque Ester lhe tinha confessado que ele era seu tio paterno.
2 And the king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it unto Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.	2 O rei tomou o anel, que tinha mandado tirar a Aman, e deu-o a Mardoqueu. Ester estabeleceu Mardoqueu sobre a casa de Aman.
3 And Esther spake yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and besought him with tears to put away the mischief of Haman the Agagite, and his device that he had devised against the Jews.	3 Não contente com isto, ela lançou-se aos pés do rei, e com lágrimas suplicou-lhe que frustrasse o mau desígnio de Aman, filho de Agag, as iníquas maquinações, que tinha urdido contra os Judeus.
4 Then the king held out the golden sceptre toward Esther. So Esther arose, and stood before the king,	4 O rei, segundo o costume, estendeu para ela com a sua mão, o ceptro de ouro, o que era sinal de clemência; levantando-se ela, pôs-se em pé diante do rei
5 And said, If it please the king, and if I have found favour in his sight, and the thing seem right before the king, and I be pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews which are in all the king's provinces:	5 e disse: Se assim apraz ao rei, se encontrei graça aos seus olhos, e não lhe parece ser injusto o meu pedido, suplico que, com novas cartas, sejam revogadas as primeiras de Aman, perseguidor e inimigo dos Judeus, com as quais mandava que fossem estes exterminados em todas as províncias do rei.
6 For how can I endure to see the evil that shall come unto my people? or how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindred?	6 Pois, como poderei eu suportar a matança, o extermínio do meu povo?
7 Then the king Ahasuerus said unto Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew, Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and him they have hanged upon the gallows, because he laid his hand upon the Jews.	7 O rei Assuero respondeu à rainha Ester e ao judeu Mardoqueu: Eu doei a Ester a casa de Aman, e a ele mandei-o crucificar, porque se atreveu a estender a sua mão contra os Judeus.
8 Write ye also for the Jews, as it liketh you, in the king's name, and seal it with the king's ring: for the writing which is written in the king's name, and sealed with the king's ring, may no man reverse.	8 Escrevei, portanto, aos Judeus em nome do rei, como bem vos parecer, e selai as cartas com o meu anel, porque, segundo o costume, as cartas enviadas em nome do rei e seladas com o seu anel são irrevogáveis.
9 Then were the king's scribes called at that time in the third month, that is, the month Sivan, on the three and twentieth day thereof; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded unto the Jews, and to the lieutenants, and the deputies and rulers of the provinces which are from India unto Ethiopia, an hundred twenty and seven provinces, unto every province according to the writing thereof, and unto every people after their language, and to the Jews according to their writing, and according to their language.	9 Chamados os secretários e escrivães do rei, correndo o terceiro mês, chamado Siban, aos vinte e três do mesmo mês, foram escritas as cartas, da maneira que quis Mardoqueu, e dirigidas aos Judeus, aos príncipes, aos governadores e chefes, que presidiam a cento e vinte e sete províncias do reino, desde a India até à Etiópia, a cada província segundo (os caracteres da) sua escrita, a cada povo em sua própria língua, e aos Judeus, em sua língua e em seus caracteres.
10 And he wrote in the king Ahasuerus' name, and sealed it with the king's ring, and sent letters by posts on horseback, and riders on mules, camels, and young dromedaries:	10 Estas cartas, que eram enviadas em nome do rei, foram seladas com o seu anel, e levadas pelos seus correios, os quais, percorrendo com diligência todas as províncias, evitaram por meio destas novas ordens (o efeito) das primeiras cartas.
11 Wherein the king granted the Jews which were in every city to gather themselves together, and to stand for their life, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and province that would assault them, both little ones and women, and to take the spoil of them for a prey,	11 O rei mandou-lhes também que em cada cidade buscassem os Judeus, e lhes ordenassem que se unissem todos, para defenderem as suas vidas e para matarem os seus inimigos, com as mulheres e filhos, destruírem todas as casas e pilharem os seus bens.
12 Upon one day in all the provinces of king Ahasuerus, namely, upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar.	12 Foi estabelecido por todas as províncias um (mesmo) dia de vingança, a saber, o dia treze do duodécimo mês (chamado) Adar.
13 The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published unto all people, and that the Jews should be ready against that day to avenge themselves on their enemies.	13 Uma cópia do edito, que devia ser, promulgado como lei, em cada província, foi enviada aberta, a todos os povos, a fim de que os Judeus, nesse dia, estivessem prontos a vingar-se dos seus inimigos.
14 So the posts that rode upon mules and camels went out, being hastened and pressed on by the king's commandment. And the decree was given at Shushan the palace.	14 Os correios partiram imediatamente, levando os avisos, e o edito do rei foi afixado em Susa.
15 And Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold, and with a garment of fine linen and purple: and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad.	15 Mardoqueu, saindo do palácio e da presença do rei, resplandecia com vestes reais, azuis e brancas, levando uma coroa de ouro na cabeça, e cobrindo-se com um manto de seda e de púrpura. Toda a cidade se encheu de festa e de alegria.
16 The Jews had light, and gladness, and joy, and honour.	16 Aos Judeus parecia ter-lhes nascido uma nova luz, alegria, honra e júbilo.
17 And in every province, and in every city, whithersoever the king's commandment and his decree came, the Jews had joy and gladness, a feast and a good day. And many of the people of the land became Jews; for the fear of the Jews fell upon them.	17 Em todos os povos, cidades e províncias, onde chegaram as ordens do rei, havia, entre os Judeus, uma alegria extraordinária, banquetes e festas, de tal sorte que muitos, dos outros povos e seitas, abraçavam a sua religião e as suas cerimónias, porque o nome do povo judaico tinha enchido todos de grande terror.
