1 The copy of the letters was this: The great king Artexerxes writeth these things to the princes and governours that are under him from India unto Ethiopia in an hundred and seven and twenty provinces.	1 Tali cose avendo udite Mardocheo, stracciò le sue vesti, e si coperse disacco, e sparse cenere sul suo capo, e in mezzo alla piazza della città gridava ad alta voce, dando a conoscere l'amaritudine del suo spirito,
2 After that I became lord over many nations and had dominion over the whole world, not lifted up with presumption of my authority, but carrying myself always with equity and mildness, I purposed to settle my subjects continually in a quiet life, and making my kingdom peaceable, and open for passage to the utmost coasts, to renew peace, which is desired of all men.	2 E così urlando andava fino alle porte del palazzo: imperocché non era lecito, che uno vestito di sacco entrasse nella reggia.
3 Now when I asked my counsellors how this might be brought to pass, Aman, that excelled in wisdom among us, and was approved for his constant good will and steadfast fidelity, and had the honour of the second place in the kingdom,	3 Similmente in tutte le provincie, città, e luoghi, dove era giunto il crudele editto del re, grande era la costernazione tra' Giudei; digiunavano, gettavano strida, piangevano, e molti del sacco, e della cenere si servivano in luogo di letto.
4 Declared unto us, that in all nations throughout the world there was scattered a certain malicious people, that had laws contrary to ail nations, and continually despised the commandments of kings, so as the uniting of our kingdoms, honourably intended by us cannot go forward.	4 E le cameriere di Esther, e gli eunuchi presentandosi a lei le diedero questa nuova: udita la quale ella si raccapricciò, e mandò a Mardocheo un vestito, affinchè levato il sacco glielo mettessero indosso: ma egli non volle riceverlo.
5 Seeing then we understand that this people alone is continually in opposition unto all men, differing in the strange manner of their laws, and evil affected to our state, working all the mischief they can that our kingdom may not be firmly established:	5 Ed ella chiamò Athach eunuco datole dal re per servirla, e gli ordinò, che andasse a trovar Mardocheo per inten der da lui il perchè facesse tali cose.
6 Therefore have we commanded, that all they that are signified in writing unto you by Aman, who is ordained over the affairs, and is next unto us, shall all, with their wives and children, be utterly destroyed by the sword of their enemies, without all mercy and pity, the fourteenth day of the twelfth month Adar of this present year:	6 E Athach uscito fuori, si accostò a Mardocheo, che era nella piazza della città davanti alla porta del palazzo:
7 That they, who of old and now also are malicious, may in one day with violence go into the grave, and so ever hereafter cause our affairs to be well settled, and without trouble.	7 E questi gli rendè conto di tutto quello, che era avvenuto, e come Aman avea promesso di dare una somma di argento al tesoro del re per far trucidare i Giudei:
8 Then Mardocheus thought upon all the works of the Lord, and made his prayer unto him,	8 E gli diede anche una copia dell'editto affisso in Susa, perchè lo facesse vedere alla regina, e la esortasse a presentarsi al re per pregarlo pel suo popolo.
9 Saying, O Lord, Lord, the King Almighty: for the whole world is in thy power, and if thou hast appointed to save Israel, there is no man that can gainsay thee:	9 Athach al suo ritorno riferì alla regina tutto quello, che Mardocheo gli avea detto.
10 For thou hast made heaven and earth, and all the wondrous things under the heaven.	10 Ed ella gli comandò, che in risposta dicesse a Mardocheo:
11 Thou art Lord of all things, and and there is no man that can resist thee, which art the Lord.	11 Sanno tutti i servi del re, e tutte le provincie, che sono sotto il suo dominio, che se un uomo, od una donna senza esser chiamato entra nell'atrio interiore del re, subito senza dilazione alcuna è messo a morte, fuori che il re, non istenda verso di lui il bastone di oro in segno di clemenza, salvandogli la vita: io adunque come potrò andare dal re, mentre già da trenta giorni non mi ha fatto chiamare a se?
12 Thou knowest all things, and thou knowest, Lord, that it was neither in contempt nor pride, nor for any desire of glory, that I did not bow down to proud Aman.	12 Udito ciò Mardocheo,
13 For I could have been content with good will for the salvation of Israel to kiss the soles of his feet.	13 Di nuovo mandò a dire ad Esther: Non ti dare a credere di poter salvare tu sola la tua vita tra tutti i Giudei, perchè sei nella casa del re;
14 But I did this, that I might not prefer the glory of man above the glory of God: neither will I worship any but thee, O God, neither will I do it in pride.	14 Perocché se tu non parlerai, per qualche altra via saran salvati i Giudei, ma tu, e la casa del padre tuo andrete in ruina. E chi sa, che tu forse non sii pervenuta al regno per questo appunto, affinchè pronta ti avessimo in tal congiuntura?
15 And now, O Lord God and King, spare thy people: for their eyes are upon us to bring us to nought; yea, they desire to destroy the inheritance, that hath been thine from the beginning.	15 E di nuovo Esther mandò a dire a Mardocheo:
16 Despise not the portion, which thou hast delivered out of Egypt for thine own self.	16 Va, e raduna tutti i Giudei, che vedrai in Susa, e fate orazione per me: non mangiate, e non bevete per tre dì, e per tre notti, ed io colle mie serve digiunerò nella stessa guisa, e poscia mi presenterò al re facendo contro la legge, non essendo io chiamata, e abbandonandomi al pericolo, e alla morte.
17 Hear my prayer, and be merciful unto thine inheritance: turn our sorrow into joy, that we may live, O Lord, and praise thy name: and destroy not the mouths of them that praise thee, O Lord.	17 Andò adunque Mardocheo, e fece tutto quello, che gli era stato ordinato da Esther.
