Tobit 14

1 So Tobit made an end of praising God.	1 Qui finirono le parole di ringraziamento di Tobi.
2 And he was eight and fifty years old when he lost his sight, which was restored to him after eight years: and he gave alms, and he increased in the fear of the Lord God, and praised him.	2 Tobi morì in pace all'età di centododici anni e fu seppellito con onore a Ninive. Aveva sessantadue anni quando perdette la vista e dopo averla ricuperata visse nell'abbondanza praticando l'elemosina; continuò sempre a benedire Dio e a celebrare la sua grandezza.
3 And when he was very aged he called his son, and the sons of his son, and said to him, My son, take thy children; for, behold, I am aged, and am ready to depart out of this life.	3 Sul punto di morire, fece venire il figlio Tobia e gli diede queste istruzioni: "Figlio, porta via i tuoi figli,
4 Go into Media my son, for I surely believe those things which Jonas the prophet spake of Nineve, that it shall be overthrown; and that for a time peace shall rather be in Media; and that our brethren shall lie scattered in the earth from that good land: and Jerusalem shall be desolate, and the house of God in it shall be burned, and shall be desolate for a time;	4 rifugiandoti nella Media, perché credo all'oracolo divino preannunciato da Naum contro Ninive; tutto si realizzerà e accadrà all'Assiria e a Ninive; si compirà tutto ciò che predissero i profeti d'Israele, inviati da Dio, senza che cada nessuno degli oracoli; succederà tutto a suo tempo; nella Media ci sarà più sicurezza che nell'Assiria ed in Babilonia. Lo so e ne sono convinto: quanto Dio ha predetto si compirà e si realizzerà senza che venga meno una sola parola delle profezie. I nostri fratelli che abitano nella terra d'Israele saranno tutti dispersi e deportati lontano dal loro paese; tutto il paese d'Israele sarà ridotto a un deserto. Anche Samaria e Gerusalemme diventeranno un deserto e il tempio di Dio si troverà in una lamentevole condizione e rimarrà bruciato fino a un certo tempo.
5 And that again God will have mercy on them, and bring them again into the land, where they shall build a temple, but not like to the first, until the time of that age be fulfilled; and afterward they shall return from all places of their captivity, and build up Jerusalem gloriously, and the house of God shall be built in it for ever with a glorious building, as the prophets have spoken thereof.	5 Ma Dio avrà di nuovo pietà di essi e li farà ritornare nel paese d'Israele; ricostruiranno il tempio, ma non come la prima volta, finché si compia il tempo prefissato. Dopo di ciò, ritorneranno tutti dall'esilio e ricostruiranno splendidamente Gerusalemme; il tempio di Dio sarà ricostruito in essa come lo preannunciarono i profeti d'Israele.
6 And all nations shall turn, and fear the Lord God truly, and shall bury their idols.	6 Tutte le nazioni della terra si convertiranno e temeranno Dio sinceramente. Tutti abbandoneranno i loro idoli, che li hanno fatti errare nella menzogna e benediranno, com'è giusto, il Dio dei secoli.
7 So shall all nations praise the Lord, and his people shall confess God, and the Lord shall exalt his people; and all those which love the Lord God in truth and justice shall rejoice, shewing mercy to our brethren.	7 Tutti gl'Israeliti che si saranno salvati in quei giorni per essersi ricordati sinceramente di Dio, si riuniranno e si recheranno a Gerusalemme; abiteranno per sempre tranquilli nel paese di Abramo, che sarà dato in loro possesso. Coloro che amano sinceramente Dio si rallegreranno, mentre coloro che commettono il peccato e l'iniquità scompariranno dalla terra".
8 And now, my son, depart out of Nineve, because that those things which the prophet Jonas spake shall surely come to pass.	8 -
9 But keep thou the law and the commandments, and shew thyself merciful and just, that it may go well with thee.	9 "Ora, figli, vi raccomando di servire Dio sinceramente e di fare ciò che a lui piace. Anche ai vostri figli insegnate l'obbligo di praticare l'elemosina e le opere di carità, di ricordarsi di Dio, di benedire sinceramente il suo nome in ogni momento e con tutte le forze. Quanto a te, figlio, parti da Ninive e non restare più qui. Quando avrai sepolto tua madre presso di me, non passare nemmeno una notte in più nel territorio di questa città: vedo infatti trionfare in essa molta ingiustizia e grande perfidia, senza che nessuno se ne vergogni.
10 And bury me decently, and thy mother with me; but tarry no longer at Nineve. Remember, my son, how Aman handled Achiacharus that brought him up, how out of light he brought him into darkness, and how he rewarded him again: yet Achiacharus was saved, but the other had his reward: for he went down into darkness. Manasses gave alms, and escaped the snares of death which they had set for him: but Aman fell into the snare, and perished.	10 Vedi, figlio, quanto fece Nadab a Achikar, suo padre adottivo; non l'ha fatto scendere vivo sotto terra? Ma Dio ripiegò l'infamia in faccia al colpevole: Achikar ritornò alla luce, mentre Nadab entrò nelle tenebre eterne per aver tentato di far morire Achikar. A causa delle sue elemosine Achikar sfuggì al laccio mortale tesogli da Nadab; Nadab invece cadde nel laccio mortale che lo fece perire.
11 Wherefore now, my son, consider what alms doeth, and how righteousness doth deliver. When he had said these things, he gave up the ghost in the bed, being an hundred and eight and fifty years old; and he buried him honourably.	11 Così, figli, considerate quali sono i frutti dell'elemosina e quali quelli dell'ingiustizia; questa conduce alla morte. Ma ecco, la vita mi abbandona". Lo distesero sul letto e morì; fu sepolto con onore.
12 And when Anna his mother was dead, he buried her with his father. But Tobias departed with his wife and children to Ecbatane to Raguel his father in law,	12 Quando morì sua madre, Tobia la seppellì vicino al padre. Poi partì insieme con la moglie per la Media e si stabilirono a Ecbàtana presso il suocero Raguel.
13 Where he became old with honour, and he buried his father and mother in law honourably, and he inherited their substance, and his father Tobit's.	13 Trattò con riguardo i suoi suoceri nella loro vecchiaia e li seppellì a Ecbàtana nella Media, ereditando così i beni di Raguel e quelli del proprio padre Tobi.
14 And he died at Ecbatane in Media, being an hundred and seven and twenty years old.	14 Morì stimato da tutti all'età di centodiciassette anni.
15 But before he died he heard of the destruction of Nineve, which was taken by Nabuchodonosor and Assuerus: and before his death he rejoiced over Nineve.	15 Prima di morire fu testimone della rovina di Ninive e vide arrivare nella Media i suoi abitanti deportati da Achiacar, re della Media. Benedisse allora il Signore per tutto ciò che aveva fatto nei confronti dei Niniviti e degli Assiri. Prima di morire poté rallegrarsi della sorte di Ninive e benedisse il Signore Dio per i secoli dei secoli.
