Nehemiah 1

1 The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,	1 - Parole di Neemia figlio di Elchia. Era il mese di Casleu dell'anno ventesimo, ed io mi trovavo nella cittadella di Susa.
2 That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.	2 E venne dalla terra di Giuda uno dei miei fratelli, Anani, ed altri uomini con lui. Chiesi a loro notizie de' Giudei rimasti e sopravvissuti alla cattività, e di Gerusalemme.
3 And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.	3 Mi dissero: «Quelli che sono sopravvissuti, e son rimasti lì in provincia dopo la cattività, si trovano in grande afflizione ed obbrobrio; i muri poi di Gerusalemme sono in rovina, e le sue porte abbruciate dal fuoco».
4 And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,	4 Udite tali parole, m'assisi, e piansi e gemei per molti giorni, digiunando e pregando al cospetto del Dio del cielo.
5 And said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:	5 E dicevo: «Ti supplico, Signore, Dio del cielo, forte, grande e terribile, che osservi il patto, e fai misericordia con quelli che ti amano, e che custodiscono i tuoi comandamenti;
6 Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned.	6 ascoltino i tuoi orecchi, e siano aperti i tuoi occhi, a udire l'orazione del servo tuo, che io levo a te ora, notte e giorno, pei figli di Israele tuoi servi, confessando i peccati che i figli d'Israele hanno commesso contro di te. Io e la casa del padre mio abbiamo peccato;
7 We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.	7 sedotti dalla vanità, non osservammo i comandamenti, le prescrizioni e le leggi da te ingiunte al tuo servo Mosè.
8 Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations:	8 Ricordati della parola da te data a Mosè tuo servo, quando dicesti: - Se sarete disobbedienti, io vi disperderò fra le nazioni;
9 But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.	9 ma se ritornerete a me, per osservare i miei comandamenti ed eseguirli, foste anche stati trasportati ai confini dell'universo, vi rimetterò insieme, e di lì vi ricondurrò nel luogo che io già scelsi acciò vi abitasse il mio nome. -
10 Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand.	10 Questi dunque sono i tuoi servi e il tuo popolo, che tu hai riscattato con la potenza tua grande, e con la forza del braccio tuo.
11 O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king's cupbearer.	11 Ti prego, Signore, ascolti il tuo orecchio l'orazione del servo tuo, e l'orazione de' tuoi servi che voglion temere il tuo nome. Dirigi oggi il tuo servo, e fagli trovare misericordia nel cospetto di quest'uomo». Io infatti ero coppiere del re.
