1 Now after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra the son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah,	1 Après ces choses, sous le règne d'Artaxerxès, roi de Perse, Esdras, fils de Saraïas, fils d'Azarias, fils d'Helcias,
2 The son of Shallum, the son of Zadok, the son of Ahitub,	2 fils de Sellum, fils de Sadoc, fils d'Achitob,
3 The son of Amariah, the son of Azariah, the son of Meraioth,	3 fils d'Amarias, fils d'Azarias, fils de Maraïoth,
4 The son of Zerahiah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Bukki,	4 fils de Zarahias, fils d'Ozi, fils de Bocci,
5 The son of Abishua, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the chief priest:	5 fils d'Abisué, fils de Phinées, fils d'Eléazar, fils d'Aaron, le premier grand prêtre;
6 This Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given: and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God upon him.	6 Esdras, dis-je, vint de Babylone; c'était un docteur habile dans la loi de Moïse, que le Seigneur Dieu avait donnée à Israël; et le roi lui accorda tout ce qu'il lui avait demandé, car la main favorable du Seigneur son Dieu était sur lui.
7 And there went up some of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king.	7 Et plusieurs des fils d'Israël, des fils des prêtres, des fils des lévites, des chantres, des portiers et des Nathinéens, vinrent avec lui à Jérusalem, la septième année du roi Artaxerxès.
8 And he came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king.	8 Et ils arrivèrent à Jérusalem au cinquième mois, la septième année du roi.
9 For upon the first day of the first month began he to go up from Babylon, and on the first day of the fifth month came he to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him.	9 Il partit de Babylone le premier jour du premier mois, et arriva à Jérusalem le premier jour du cinquième mois, la main favorable de son Dieu étant sur lui.
10 For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.	10 Car Esdras avait préparé son coeur pour étudier la loi du Seigneur, et pour exécuter et enseigner dans Israël Ses préceptes et Ses ordonnances.
11 Now this is the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave unto Ezra the priest, the scribe, even a scribe of the words of the commandments of the LORD, and of his statutes to Israel.	11 Voici la copie de la lettre, en forme d'édit, que le roi Artaxerxès donna à Esdras, prêtre, et docteur instruit dans la parole et dans les préceptes du Seigneur, et dans les cérémonies données à Israël.
12 Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto Ezra the priest, a scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect peace, and at such a time.	12 Artaxerxès, roi des rois, à Esdras, prêtre et docteur très savant dans la loi du Dieu du ciel. Salut.
13 I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and of his priests and Levites, in my realm, which are minded of their own freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go with thee.	13 J'ai ordonné que quiconque se trouvera dans mon royaume du peuple d'Israël, de ses prêtres et de ses lévites, qui voudra aller à Jérusalem, y aille avec vous.
14 Forasmuch as thou art sent of the king, and of his seven counsellers, to inquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem, according to the law of thy God which is in thine hand;	14 Car vous êtes envoyé par le roi et par ses sept conseillers pour inspecter la Judée et Jérusalem selon la loi de votre Dieu, dont vous êtes très instruit;
15 And to carry the silver and gold, which the king and his counsellers have freely offered unto the God of Israel, whose habitation is in Jerusalem,	15 et pour porter l'argent et l'or que le roi et ses conseillers offrent volontairement au Dieu d'Israël, qui a établi Son tabernacle à Jérusalem.
16 And all the silver and gold that thou canst find in all the province of Babylon, with the freewill offering of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly for the house of their God which is in Jerusalem:	16 Tout l'or et tout l'argent que vous trouverez dans toute la province de Babylone, ce que le peuple aura voulu offrir, et ce que les prêtres auront offert d'eux-mêmes au temple de leur Dieu, qui est à Jérusalem,
17 That thou mayest buy speedily with this money bullocks, rams, lambs, with their meat offerings and their drink offerings, and offer them upon the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem.	17 acceptez-le livrement, et ayez soin d'acheter de cet argent des veaux, des béliers, des agneaux et des offrandes avec leurs libations, pour les offrir sur l'autel du temple de votre Dieu, qui est à Jérusalem.
18 And whatsoever shall seem good to thee, and to thy brethren, to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, that do after the will of your God.	18 Que si vous trouvez bon, vous et vos frères, de disposer en quelque autre sorte du reste de l'argent et de l'or qui vous aura été donné, usez-en selon la volonté de votre Dieu.
19 The vessels also that are given thee for the service of the house of thy God, those deliver thou before the God of Jerusalem.	19 Exposez devant votre Dieu â Jérusalem les vases qui vous ont été donnés pour servir au ministère du temple de votre Dieu.
20 And whatsoever more shall be needful for the house of thy God, which thou shalt have occasion to bestow, bestow it out of the king's treasure house.	20 S'il est nécessaire de faire quelque autre dépense pour la maison de votre Dieu, quelque grande qu'elle puisse être, on vous fournira de quoi la faire, du trésor et du fisc du roi, et de ce que je vous donnerai en particulier.
21 And I, even I Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers which are beyond the river, that whatsoever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done speedily,	21 Moi, Artaxerxès, roi, j'ordonne et je commande à tous les trésoriers du fisc qui sont au delà du fleuve, de donner sans délai à Esdras, prêtre et docteur de la loi du Dieu du ciel, tout ce qu'il leur demandera,
22 Unto an hundred talents of silver, and to an hundred measures of wheat, and to an hundred baths of wine, and to an hundred baths of oil, and salt without prescribing how much.	22 jusqu'à cent talents d'argent, cent mesures de froment, cent mesures de vin, cent barils d'huile et du sel à discrétion.
23 Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be diligently done for the house of the God of heaven: for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?	23 Qu'on ait soin de fournir au temple du Dieu du ciel tout ce qui sert â Son culte, de peur que Sa colère ne s'allume contre le royaume du roi et de ses fils.
24 Also we certify you, that touching any of the priests and Levites, singers, porters, Nethinims, or ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose toll, tribute, or custom, upon them.	24 Nous vous déclarons aussi que vous n'aurez point le pouvoir d'imposer ni taille, ni tribut, ni d'autre charge sur aucun des prêtres, des lévites, des chantres, des portiers, des Nathinéens et des ministres du temple du Dieu d'Israël.
25 And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that is in thine hand, set magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know them not.	25 Et vous, Esdras, établissez des juges et des magistrats, selon la sagesse que votre Dieu vous a donnée, afin qu'ils jugent tout le peuple qui est au delà du fleuve, c'est-à-dire tous ceux qui connaissent la loi de votre Dieu; et enseignez aussi avec liberté les ignorants.
26 And whosoever will not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed speedily upon him, whether it be unto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.	26 Quiconque n'observera pas exactement la loi de votre Dieu et cette ordonnance du roi, sera condamné à la mort, ou à l'exil, ou à une amende sur son bien, ou à la prison.
27 Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, which hath put such a thing as this in the king's heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem:	27 Béni soit le Seigneur, le Dieu de nos pères, qui a mis au coeur du roi cette pensée de relever la gloire du temple du Seigneur, qui est à Jérusalem,
28 And hath extended mercy unto me before the king, and his counsellers, and before all the king's mighty princes. And I was strengthened as the hand of the LORD my God was upon me, and I gathered together out of Israel chief men to go up with me.	28 et qui, par Sa miséricorde, m'a fait trouver grâce devant le roi et ses conseillers, et devant tous les plus puissants princes de la cour. C'est pourquoi, étant soutenu par la main du Seigneur mon Dieu qui était sur moi, j'ai assemblé les chefs d'Israël, afin qu'ils partissent avec moi.
