1 Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house.	1 Lorsque Salomon eut terminé sa prière, le feu descendit du ciel et brûla l’holocauste et les sacrifices, tandis que la Gloire de Dieu remplissait la Maison.
2 And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD's house.	2 Les prêtres ne pouvaient plus entrer dans la Maison de Yahvé car la Gloire de Yahvé remplissait sa Maison.
3 And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.	3 Quand ils virent le feu qui descendait et la Gloire de Yahvé qui reposait sur la Maison, tous les Israélites se mirent à genoux, le visage contre terre sur le pavé; ils adorèrent et célébrèrent Yahvé: “Car il est bon, éternel est son amour!”
4 Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the LORD.	4 Le roi et tout le peuple offrirent des sacrifices devant Yahvé:
5 And king Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty and two thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep: so the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.	5 le roi Salomon offrit en sacrifices 22 000 bœufs et 120 000 moutons C’est ainsi que le roi et tout le peuple firent la dédicace de la Maison de Dieu.
6 And the priests waited on their offices: the Levites also with instruments of musick of the LORD, which David the king had made to praise the LORD, because his mercy endureth for ever, when David praised by their ministry; and the priests sounded trumpets before them, and all Israel stood.	6 Les prêtres se tenaient à leur place, les lévites chantaient Yahvé avec les instruments de musique que le roi David avait faits pour célébrer Yahvé: “Car éternel est son amour!” Ainsi, David chantait par leur bouche. En face d’eux les prêtres jouaient de la trompette et tout Israël se tenait debout.
7 Moreover Solomon hallowed the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the brasen altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offerings, and the meat offerings, and the fat.	7 Salomon consacra l’intérieur de la cour qui se trouvait devant la Maison de Yahvé; c’est là qu’il offrit les holocaustes et la graisse des sacrifices de communion, car l’autel de bronze qu’il avait fait ne pouvait contenir l’holocauste, l’offrande et la graisse.
8 Also at the same time Solomon kept the feast seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great congregation, from the entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt.	8 En cette occasion Salomon célébra la fête pendant sept jours avec tout Israël: c’était une immense assemblée venue depuis l’Entrée-de-Hamat jusqu’au Torrent d’Égypte.
9 And in the eighth day they made a solemn assembly: for they kept the dedication of the altar seven days, and the feast seven days.	9 On eut une assemblée solennelle le huitième jour: on avait en effet célébré la dédicace de l’autel par une fête qui dura sept jours.
10 And on the three and twentieth day of the seventh month he sent the people away into their tents, glad and merry in heart for the goodness that the LORD had shewed unto David, and to Solomon, and to Israel his people.	10 Le vingt-troisième jour du septième mois, Salomon renvoya le peuple à ses tentes. Tous étaient joyeux, le cœur en fête, pour tout le bien que Yahvé avait fait à David, à Salomon et à son peuple Israël.
11 Thus Solomon finished the house of the LORD, and the king's house: and all that came into Solomon's heart to make in the house of the LORD, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.	11 Salomon termina la Maison et le palais royal, il mena à bien tout ce qu’il avait décidé de faire dans la Maison de Yahvé et dans son palais.
12 And the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.	12 Durant la nuit, Yahvé apparut à Salomon: “J’ai entendu ta prière, lui dit-il, et je me suis choisi ce lieu pour qu’elle soit une maison de sacrifices.
13 If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;	13 “Quand je fermerai le ciel, quand il n’y aura plus de pluie, quand j’ordonnerai à la sauterelle de dévorer le pays, que j’enverrai sur mon peuple la peste,
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.	14 si mon peuple sur qui est invoqué mon Nom s’humilie, s’il prie, s’il recherche mon visage et se détourne de ses mauvais chemins, moi, j’écouterai du haut des cieux, je pardonnerai son péché et je guérirai son pays.
15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.	15 Désormais mes yeux seront ouverts et mes oreilles attentives à la prière que l’on fait en ce lieu.
16 For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.	16 Car j’ai choisi cette Maison, je l’ai consacrée pour que mon Nom y demeure pour toujours; mes yeux et mon cœur y seront pour toujours.
17 And as for thee, if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded thee, and shalt observe my statues and my judgments;	17 “Pour toi, si tu marches devant moi comme ton père David l’a fait, si tu agis selon tout ce que je t’ai ordonné, si tu observes mes commandements et mes ordonnances,
18 Then will I stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel.	18 je maintiendrai ton trône royal comme je m’y suis engagé envers ton père David lorsque je lui ai dit: Tu ne manqueras jamais d’un descendant pour gouverner Israël.
19 But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;	19 “Mais si vous vous détournez, si vous abandonnez les ordonnances et les commandements que j’ai placés devant vous, si vous allez servir d’autres dieux et vous prosterner devant eux,
20 Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations.	20 alors je vous arracherai de la terre que je vous ai donnée, je rejetterai loin de moi cette Maison que j’ai consacrée en l’honneur de mon Nom, j’en ferai une moquerie, et on en rira dans tous les peuples.
21 And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and unto this house?	21 Celui qui passera près de ce Temple, qui avait été élevé si haut, sera stupéfait; il demandera: Pourquoi Yahvé a-t-il traité ainsi ce pays et ce Temple?
22 And it shall be answered, Because they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.	22 Et l’on répondra: parce qu’ils ont abandonné Yahvé, le Dieu de leurs pères qui les avait fait sortir d’Égypte; ils se sont attachés à d’autres dieux, ils se sont prosternés devant eux et les ont servis: voilà pourquoi il a fait venir tout ce malheur sur eux!”
