1 And Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah, and wrote letters also to Ephraim and Manasseh, that they should come to the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, to keep the passover unto the LORD God of Israel.	1 Ézékias envoya des messagers par tout Israël et tout Juda - il écrivit même des lettres en ce sens à Éphraïm et à Manassé - pour que l’on vienne à la Maison de Yahvé à Jérusalem, afin de célébrer une Pâque en l’honneur de Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël.
2 For the king had taken counsel, and his princes, and all the congregation in Jerusalem, to keep the passover in the second month.	2 Le roi, les chefs et toute l’assemblée de Jérusalem, tombèrent d’accord pour célébrer la Pâque au second mois
3 For they could not keep it at that time, because the priests had not sanctified themselves sufficiently, neither had the people gathered themselves together to Jerusalem.	3 car on n’avait pas pu la célébrer en son temps: les prêtres ne s’étaient pas purifiés en nombre suffisant et le peuple n’était pas encore rassemblé à Jérusalem.
4 And the thing pleased the king and all the congregation.	4 La décision parut juste au yeux du roi et de toute l’assemblée,
5 So they established a decree to make proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beer-sheba even to Dan, that they should come to keep the passover unto the LORD God of Israel at Jerusalem: for they had not done it of a long time in such sort as it was written.	5 à la suite de quoi ils décidèrent de faire passer un avis dans tout Israël, de Bersabée jusqu’à Dan, pour que l’on vienne célébrer une Pâque en l’honneur de Yahvé Dieu d’Israël. En effet, ceux qui l’avaient fait conformément à l’Écriture, étaient peu nombreux.
6 So the posts went with the letters from the king and his princes throughout all Israel and Judah, and according to the commandment of the king, saying, Ye children of Israel, turn again unto the LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, and he will return to the remnant of you, that are escaped out of the hand of the kings of Assyria.	6 Les messagers partirent donc dans tout Israël et tout Juda avec les lettres signées de la main du roi et des chefs qui contenaient les instructions du roi: “Israélites! Revenez à Yahvé, Dieu d’Abraham et d’Israël, pour qu’il revienne lui aussi vers les survivants, vers vous qui avez échappé à la main des rois d’Assyrie.
7 And be not ye like your fathers, and like your brethren, which trespassed against the LORD God of their fathers, who therefore gave them up to desolation, as ye see.	7 Ne soyez pas comme vos pères et vos frères qui ont été infidèles à Yahvé, le Dieu de leurs pères: il les a livrés à la ruine comme vous l’avez vu.
8 Now be ye not stiffnecked, as your fathers were, but yield yourselves unto the LORD, and enter into his sanctuary, which he hath sanctified for ever: and serve the LORD your God, that the fierceness of his wrath may turn away from you.	8 Ne faites plus maintenant la forte tête comme l’ont fait vos pères, rendez gloire à Yahvé, venez au sanctuaire qu’il a consacré pour toujours; servez Yahvé votre Dieu, et lui détournera de vous sa violente colère.
9 For if ye turn again unto the LORD, your brethren and your children shall find compassion before them that lead them captive, so that they shall come again into this land: for the LORD your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if ye return unto him.	9 Si vous revenez à Yahvé, vos frères et vos fils trouveront grâce auprès de leurs gardiens et reviendront en ce pays, car Yahvé votre Dieu est bon et fait miséricorde. Si vous revenez à lui, il ne détournera pas de vous son visage.”
10 So the posts passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh even unto Zebulun: but they laughed them to scorn, and mocked them.	10 Les messagers allaient de ville en ville dans le pays d’Éphraïm et de Manassé et jusqu’en Zabulon; mais on riait d’eux, on se moquait d’eux.
11 Nevertheless divers of Asher and Manasseh and of Zebulun humbled themselves, and came to Jerusalem.	11 Quelques hommes d’Asher cependant, de Manassé et de Zabulon, firent pénitence et vinrent à Jérusalem.
12 Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandment of the king and of the princes, by the word of the LORD.	12 La main de Dieu était à l’œuvre en Juda pour leur donner un seul cœur et pour exécuter l’ordre du roi et des chefs, selon la parole de Yahvé.
13 And there assembled at Jerusalem much people to keep the feast of unleavened bread in the second month, a very great congregation.	13 Un peuple nombreux se trouva donc rassemblé à Jérusalem au second mois pour célébrer la fête des Azymes: c’était une énorme assemblée.
14 And they arose and took away the altars that were in Jerusalem, and all the altars for incense took they away, and cast them into the brook Kidron.	14 Ils se mirent au travail, firent disparaître les autels à travers Jérusalem; tous les autels à encens furent jetés dans le torrent du Cédron.
15 Then they killed the passover on the fourteenth day of the second month: and the priests and the Levites were ashamed, and sanctified themselves, and brought in the burnt offerings into the house of the LORD.	15 On immola la Pâque au 14 du second mois. Tout confus, les prêtres et les lévites se purifièrent et firent avancer les holocaustes vers la Maison de Yahvé.
16 And they stood in their place after their manner, according to the law of Moses the man of God: the priests sprinkled the blood, which they received of the hand of the Levites.	16 Ils se tenaient à leur poste selon la règle, selon la Loi de Moïse, l’homme de Dieu; les prêtres faisaient l’aspersion avec le sang reçu de la main des lévites.
17 For there were many in the congregation that were not sanctified: therefore the Levites had the charge of the killing of the passovers for every one that was not clean, to sanctify them unto the LORD.	17 Comme beaucoup dans l’assemblée ne s’étaient pas purifiés, les lévites étaient chargés d’immoler les victimes pascales pour tous ceux qui n’étaient pas purs, et de les consacrer à Yahvé.
18 For a multitude of the people, even many of Ephraim, and Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, yet did they eat the passover otherwise than it was written. But Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, The good LORD pardon every one	18 La plus grande partie du peuple, beaucoup de gens d’Éphraïm, de Manassé et de Zabulon, ne s’étaient pas purifiés: ils avaient mangé la Pâque sans se conformer à ce qui est écrit. Ézékias pria donc pour eux: “Que Yahvé qui est bon, pardonne
19 That prepareth his heart to seek God, the LORD God of his fathers, though he be not cleansed according to the purification of the sanctuary.	19 à tous ceux qui s’appliquent à rechercher Yahvé, le Dieu de leurs pères, même s’ils n’ont pas la pureté nécessaire pour les rites sacrés.”
20 And the LORD hearkened to Hezekiah, and healed the people.	20 Yahvé écouta Ézékias et il épargna le peuple.
21 And the children of Israel that were present at Jerusalem kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with great gladness: and the Levites and the priests praised the LORD day by day, singing with loud instruments unto the LORD.	21 Les Israélites qui étaient à Jérusalem, célébrèrent donc la fête des Azymes durant sept jours, au milieu de la joie générale. Jour après jour les lévites et les prêtres louaient Yahvé au son puissant des instruments sacrés.
22 And Hezekiah spake comfortably unto all the Levites that taught the good knowledge of the LORD: and they did eat throughout the feast seven days, offering peace offerings, and making confession to the LORD God of their fathers.	22 Ézékias sut parler au cœur de tous les lévites qui se montraient si zélés pour le culte de Yahvé. On termina la semaine de célébration en offrant des sacrifices de communion, rendant grâces à Yahvé, le Dieu des pères.
23 And the whole assembly took counsel to keep other seven days: and they kept other seven days with gladness.	23 Alors toute l’assemblée décida d’un commun accord de célébrer encore sept autres jours: on les fêta dans la joie,
24 For Hezekiah king of Judah did give to the congregation a thousand bullocks and seven thousand sheep; and the princes gave to the congregation a thousand bullocks and ten thousand sheep: and a great number of priests sanctified themselves.	24 car Ézékias, roi de Juda, avait prélevé pour l’assemblée 1 000 taureaux et 7 000 moutons; de leur côté les chefs avaient prélevé 1 000 taureaux et 10 000 moutons. Cette fois les prêtres s’étaient purifiés en grand nombre.
25 And all the congregation of Judah, with the priests and the Levites, and all the congregation that came out of Israel, and the strangers that came out of the land of Israel, and that dwelt in Judah, rejoiced.	25 Toute l’assemblée de Juda était dans la joie, et avec elle les prêtres et les lévites, et de même l’assemblée venue d’Israël, aussi bien ceux qui étaient venus d’Israël pour quelques jours, que ceux qui habitaient en Juda.
26 So there was great joy in Jerusalem: for since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was not the like in Jerusalem.	26 La joie était grande à Jérusalem car, depuis les jours de Salomon fils de David, roi d’Israël, on n’avait rien vu de semblable.
27 Then the priests the Levites arose and blessed the people: and their voice was heard, and their prayer came up to his holy dwelling place, even unto heaven.	27 Les prêtres-lévites se levèrent et bénirent le peuple; on entendait leurs voix, leurs prières qui montaient jusqu’aux cieux, là où habite Sa Sainteté.
