1 And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.	1 Al suo posto divenne re Giosafat, suo figlio, il quale consolidò il potere su Israele.
2 And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.	2 Egli stanziò truppe in tutte le città fortificate di Giuda e designò governatori nel territorio di Giuda e nelle città di Efraim, che suo padre Asa aveva occupato.
3 And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto Baalim;	3 Il Signore fu con Giosafat, perché egli seguì la primitiva condotta di suo padre e non ricercò i Baal,
4 But sought to the LORD God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.	4 ma ricercò il Dio del padre suo, osservando i suoi comandamenti, senza seguire il modo di agire d'Israele.
5 Therefore the LORD stablished the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honour in abundance.	5 Il Signore consolidò il regno in suo potere e tutto Giuda portava offerte a Giosafat, che ebbe ricchezza e gloria in abbondanza.
6 And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah.	6 Il suo cuore si rafforzò nelle vie del Signore e rimosse anche le alture e i pali sacri da Giuda.
7 Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his princes, even to Ben-hail, and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.	7 Nel terzo anno del suo regno mandò i suoi capi Ben-Cail, Abdia, Zaccaria, Netaneèl, e Michea ad insegnare nelle città di Giuda.
8 And with them he sent Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests.	8 Con essi c'erano i leviti Semaia, Natania, Zebadia, Asael, Semiraimot, Gionata, Adonia e Tobia con i sacerdoti Elisama e Ioram.
9 And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of the LORD with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.	9 Istruirono Giuda avendo con sé il libro della legge del Signore; essi percorsero tutte le città di Giuda istruendo il popolo.
10 And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.	10 Il terrore del Signore pervase tutti i regni delle regioni che circondavano Giuda, così che non mossero guerra a Giosafat.
11 Also some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats.	11 Tra i Filistei ci furono di quelli che portarono a Giosafat tributi e argento in dono; anche gli Arabi gli portarono bestiame minuto: settemilasettecento montoni e settemilasettecento capri.
12 And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles, and cities of store.	12 Giosafat cresceva sempre più in potenza; egli costruì in Giuda castelli e città di approvvigionamento.
13 And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valour, were in Jerusalem.	13 Aveva a disposizione molta mano d'opera nelle città di Giuda, e in Gerusalemme c'erano i guerrieri, uomini valorosi.
14 And these are the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: Of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valour three hundred thousand.	14 Questo è il loro censimento secondo il casato: per Giuda i capi di migliaia erano Adna, il capo, e con lui trecentomila uomini valorosi;
15 And next to him was Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and fourscore thousand.	15 al suo fianco c'era Giovanni, il capo, e con lui duecentottantamila uomini.
16 And next him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the LORD; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour.	16 Al suo fianco c'era Amasia, figlio di Zicri, che si era votato al Signore, e con lui duecentomila uomini valorosi.
17 And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand.	17 Per Beniamino c'era Eliada, uomo valoroso, e con lui duecentomila uomini armati di arco e di scudo.
18 And next him was Jehozabad, and with him an hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for the war.	18 Al suo fianco c'era Iozabad e con lui centottantamila uomini pronti per la guerra.
19 These waited on the king, beside those whom the king put in the fenced cities throughout all Judah.	19 Tutti questi erano al servizio del re, oltre a quelli che il re aveva stabilito nelle città fortificate in Giuda.
