1 And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.	1 Siccome il Signore voleva rapire Elia al cielo in un turbine, Elia ed Eliseo partirono da Galgala.
2 And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel.	2 Ed Elia disse ad Eliseo: « Fermati qui, perchè il Signore mi manda fino a Betel ». Ma Eliseo gli rispose: « Viva il Signore e viva l'anima tua! Io non ti lascerò ». Quando furono discesi a Betel,
3 And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.	3 uscirono incontro ad Eliseo i figli dei profeti ch'erano a Betel, e gli dissero: « Non sai tu che oggi il Signore ti toglierà il tuo padrone? » Egli rispose: « Tacete: lo so anch'io! »
4 And Elijah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.	4 Elia disse poi ad Eliseo: « Fermati qui, perchè il Signore mi manda a Gerico ». Ma Eliseo disse: « Viva il Signore e viva l'anima tua! Io non ti lascerò ». Giunti che furono a Gerico,
5 And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.	5 i figli dei profeti che erano a Gerico, si accostarono ad Eliseo e gli dissero: « Non sai tu che oggi il Signore ti toglierà il tuo padrone? » Egli disse: « Tacete, lo so anch'io! »
6 And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on.	6 Poi Elia gli disse: «Fermati qui, perchè il Signore mi manda fino al Giordano ». Ma egli rispose: « Viva il Signore e viva l'anima tua! Non ti lascerò ». Allora andarono tutt'e due insieme,
7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan.	7 seguiti da cinquanta uomini dei figli dei profeti che si fermarono di faccia a loro da lontano. Giunti ambedue sulla riva del Giordano,
8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.	8 Elia prese il suo mantello, lo arrotolò, e percosse le acque, le quali si divisero in due parti, e tutt'e due passarono per l'asciutto.
9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.	9 Passati che furono, Elia disse ad Eliseo: « Chiedi ciò che desideri che io ti faccia, avanti che io ti sia tolto ». Eliseo disse: « Chiedo che si raddoppi in me il tuo spirito ».
10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.	10 Elia rispose: « Tu hai domandato una cosa difficile; tuttavia, se tu mi vedrai quando ti sarò tolto, avrai quello che hai domandato, ma se non mi vedrai, non l'avrai ».
11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.	11 Mentre seguitavano a camminare e a discorrere insieme, ecco un cocchio di fuoco e dei cavalli di fuoco a separarli l'un dall'altro. Elia salì al cielo in un turbine,
12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.	12 mentre Eliseo stava a guardare e gridava: « Padre mio, padre mio, cocchio d'Israele e suo duce! » Quando non lo vide più, prese le sue vesti e le stracciò in due parti.
13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;	13 Poi raccolse il mantello d'Elia, che gli era caduto, e tornato indietro si fermò sulla riva del Giordano.
14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.	14 Col mantello d'Elia, a lui caduto, percosse le acque; ma esse non si divisero. Allora egli disse: « Dov'è ora il Dio d'Elia? » Percosse le acque ed esse si divisero di qua e di là ed Eliseo passò.
15 And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.	15 Avendo ciò veduto i figli dei profeti che erano a Gerico, di faccia, esclamarono: « Lo spirito d'Elia s'è posato sopra Eliseo! » E venutigli incontro, si prostrarono davanti a lui fino a terra.
16 And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest peradventure the Spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send.	16 E gli dissero: « Ecco, coi tuoi servi ci sono cinquanta uomini forti che possono andare a cercar il tuo padrone, se mai lo Spirito del Signore lo avesse preso e gettato su qualche monte, o in qualche valle ». Eliseo rispose: « Non li mandate ».
17 And when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, Send. They sent therefore fifty men; and they sought three days, but found him not.	17 Ma essi insistettero fino a tanto che egli non si arrese e disse: « Mandate ». Essi mandarono i cinquanta uomini, i quali cercarono per tre giorni senza averlo trovato.
18 And when they came again to him, (for he tarried at Jericho,) he said unto them, Did I not say unto you, Go not?	18 Allora tornarono da Eliseo che s'era fermato in Gerico, il quale disse loro: « Non ve l 'avevo detto io: non mandate? »
19 And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water is naught, and the ground barren.	19 La gente della città disse ad Eliseo: « Ecco, il soggiorno di questa città è ottimo, come tu stesso, o signore, vedi, ma le acque son pessime e la terra è sterile ».
20 And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought it to him.	20 Ed egli disse: « Portatemi un vaso nuovo e mettetevi del sale ». Portato che gliel'ebbero,
21 And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land.	21 egli andò alla sorgente delle acque, e, gettatovi del sale, disse: « Queste cose dice il Signore: Ho rese sane queste acque e non ne verrà più nè morte nè sterilità ».
22 So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake.	22 E quelle acque furon rese sane fino a questo giorno, secondo le parole dette da Eliseo.
23 And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head.	23 Di là egli salì a Betel. Or mentre saliva per la via, dei ragazzetti, usciti dalla città, lo beffeggiavano, dicendo: « Sali, o calvo; sali, o calvo ».
24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.	24 Egli, voltatosi a guardarli, li maledisse nel nome del Signore; e due orsi usciti dal bosco sbranarono quarantadue di quei ragazzi.
25 And he went from thence to mount Carmel, and from thence he returned to Samaria.	25 Di là egli andò sul monte Carmelo, e poi tornò a Samaria.
