1 And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.	1 - Quando il Signore volle rapire in cielo Elia in un turbine, avvenne che Elia ed Eliseo partirono da Galgala.
2 And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel.	2 Elia disse ad Eliseo: «Fermati qua, poichè il Signore mi manda fino a Betel». Ma Eliseo rispose: «Viva il Signore e viva l'anima tua! io non ti lascerò». Quando furono discesi in Betel,
3 And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.	3 uscirono incontro ad Eliseo i figli dei profeti, che stavano a Betel, e gli dissero: «Non sai tu che oggi il Signore ti rapirà il tuo padrone?». Eliseo rispose: «Anche io lo so, tacete».
4 And Elijah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.	4 Disse poi Elia ad Eliseo: «Fermati qua, poichè il Signore mi manda a Gerico». Ed egli rispose: «Viva il Signore e viva l'anima tua! io non ti lascerò». Venuti a Gerico
5 And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.	5 si accostarono ad Eliseo i figli dei profeti, che stavano in Gerico, e gli dissero: «Non sai che oggi il Signore ti rapirà il tuo padrone?». Ed egli rispose: «Anch'io lo so; tacete».
6 And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on.	6 Gli disse poi Elia: «Fermati qua, poichè il Signore mi manda fino al Giordano». Ed egli rispose: «Viva il Signore e viva l'anima tua! io non ti lascerò». Andarono dunque ambedue insieme,
7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan.	7 e cinquanta uomini dei figli dei profeti li seguirono, restando da lungi dalla parte opposta. Essi poi se ne stavano entrambi sulla riva del Giordano.
8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.	8 Ed Elia preso il mantello e arrotolatolo, percosse le acque, che si divisero in due parti; e passarono ambedue a piedi asciutti.
9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.	9 Dopo essere passati, Elia disse ad Eliseo: «Domanda quanto vuoi che io ti faccia, prima ch'io sia portato via». Ed Eliseo rispose: «Ti prego di far sì che sopra di me siavi doppiamente il tuo spirito».
10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.	10 Elia gli disse: «Hai chiesto una sola cosa difficile. Tuttavia se tu mi vedrai quando io ti sarò tolto, otterrai ciò che hai domandato; se non mi vedrai, non l'otterrai».
11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.	11 Mentre se ne andavano, e camminando parlavano tra loro, ecco un carro di fuoco, con cavalli di fuoco che li separarono l'un dall'altro; ed Elia salì in cielo in un turbine,
12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.	12 mentre Eliseo guardava e gridava: «Oh, padre mio, o padre mio, carro d'Israele e suo condottiero!». Ma poi non lo vide più. E prese le sue vesti, le divise in due parti,
13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;	13 e raccolse il mantello di Elia, che gli era caduto. Poi ritornò e se ne stette sulla riva del Giordano
14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.	14 e col mantello di Elia, che gli era caduto, percosse le acque, ma le acque non si divisero. Disse allora: «Ov'è adesso il Dio d'Elia?». Percosse ancora le acque e si divisero di qua e di là ed Eliseo passò.
15 And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.	15 Quando i figli dei profeti, che se ne stavano a Gerico, dalla parte opposta, videro ciò, dissero: «Lo spirito di Elia si è posato sopra Eliseo»; e venutigli incontro, lo adorarono prostrati a terra.
16 And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest peradventure the Spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send.	16 Poi gli dissero: «Ecco, vi sono tra i tuoi servi cinquanta uomini forti, che possono andare a cercare il tuo signore, nel caso che lo spirito del Signore l'avesse preso e gettato sopra qualche montagna o in qualche vallata». Ma egli rispose: «Non li mandate».
17 And when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, Send. They sent therefore fifty men; and they sought three days, but found him not.	17 Essi però insistettero fino a che egli accondiscese e disse: «Mandateli»; ed essi mandarono i cinquanta uomini, i quali dopo aver cercato per tre giorni continui senza averlo trovato,
18 And when they came again to him, (for he tarried at Jericho,) he said unto them, Did I not say unto you, Go not?	18 ritornarono da lui, che si era fermato in Gerico, e disse loro: «Non vi avevo io detto di non mandarli?».
19 And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water is naught, and the ground barren.	19 Ora gli uomini della città dissero ad Eliseo: «Il soggiorno di questa città è ottimo, come tu stesso, o signore, vedi; ma le acque sono pessime e la terra sterile».
20 And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought it to him.	20 Ed egli disse: «Portatemi un vaso nuovo e mettetevi del sale». Quando glielo ebbero portato,
21 And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land.	21 egli uscì alla fonte delle acque, vi gettò dentro il sale, e disse: «Questo ha detto il Signore: - Ho sanato queste acque ed esse non saranno più causa di morte nè di sterilità -».
22 So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake.	22 Così quelle acque furono risanate fino a questo giorno, secondo la parola che Eliseo aveva pronunziato.
23 And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head.	23 Poi di là egli salì verso Betel. Mentre saliva lungo il sentiero, uscirono dalla città dei fanciulletti, che si misero a prendersi beffa di lui e a dire: «Sali, calvo! Sali, calvo!».
24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.	24 Egli, essendosi voltato verso di loro, li vide e li maledisse nel nome del Signore; e uscirono due orsi dalla foresta che sbranarono quarantadue di quei fanciulli.
25 And he went from thence to mount Carmel, and from thence he returned to Samaria.	25 Di là poi se ne andò al monte Carmelo, donde fece ritorno in Samaria.
