1 And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.	1 Roboamo si recò a Sichem, ove s'era adunato tutto Israele per costituirlo re.
2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was yet in Egypt, heard of it, (for he was fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt;)	2 Or Geroboamo, figlio di Nabat, avendo intesa in Egitto, ove era ancora e dov'era fuggito dinanzi al re Salomone, la morte di lui, tornò dall'Egitto,
3 That they sent and called him. And Jeroboam and all the congregation of Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying,	3 perchè avevano mandato a chiamarlo. Andarono dunque Geroboamo e tutta l'assemblea di Israele a parlare a Roboamo, e dissero:
4 Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.	4 « Tuo padre ci ha imposto un giogo durissimo, mitiga un poco la durezza del governo di tuo padre e il giogo gravissimo che ci ha messo addosso, e noi saremo tuoi servi ».
5 And he said unto them, Depart yet for three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.	5 Ma egli disse loro: « Andatevene, e di qui a tre giorni ritornate da me ». Ritiratosi il popolo,
6 And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer this people?	6 Roboamo consultò gli anziani che stavano presso di Salomone, mentre era vivo, e disse: « Che mi consigliate di rispondere a questo popolo? »
7 And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.	7 Essi dissero: « Se tu oggi farai secondo i desideri di questo popolo e ti adatterai, piegando alle loro dimande e dicendo loro buone parole, essi saranno per sempre tuoi servi ».
8 But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him:	8 Ma Roboamo, abbandonato il consiglio che gli avevan dato i vecchi, consultò i giovani che erano stati allevati con lui e lo assistevano
9 And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?	9 e disse loro: « E voi che mi consigliate di rispondere a questo popolo che mi ha detto: Alleggerisci il giogo che tuo padre ci ha imposto? »
10 And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.	10 Quei giovani che erano stati allevati con lui, gli dissero: « Di' così a questa gente che ti ha detto: Tuo padre ha posto sopra di noi un giogo pesante, ma tu alleggeriscilo, di' loro così: Il mio dito mignolo è più grosso del dorso di mio padre:
11 And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father hath chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.	11 se mio padre ha messo addosso a voi un giogo pesante, io l'aggraverò; se mio padre vi ha battuti colle sferze, io vi dilanierò cogli scorpioni ».
12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day.	12 Or Geroboamo tornò con tutto il popolo da Roboamo il terzo giorno, come il re aveva ordinato quando aveva detto: Tornate da me fra tre giorni.
13 And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the old men's counsel that they gave him;	13 Ma il re rispose duramente al popolo, lasciando il consiglio datogli dagli anziani,
14 And spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father also chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.	14 rispose secondo il consiglio dei giovani, e disse: « Se mio padre vi ha posto addosso un giogo pesante, io l'aggraverò, se il mio padre vi battè colle sferze, io vi dilanierò cogli scorpioni ».
15 Wherefore the king hearkened not unto the people; for the cause was from the LORD, that he might perform his saying, which the LORD spake by Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the son of Nebat.	15 Il re non diede ascolto al popolo, perchè il Signore gli aveva voltate le spalle, per compiere la parola che aveva detta per mezzo di Ahia Silonita, a Geroboamo figlio di Nabat.
16 So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.	16 Allora il popolo, vedendo che il re non aveva voluto ascoltarli, gli rispose dicendo: « Qual parte abbiamo noi con David? Quale eredità col figlio d'Isai? Va nelle tue tende, o Israele, e tu ora pensa alla tua casa, o David ». Israele se ne andò alle sue tende,
17 But as for the children of Israel which dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.	17 e Roboamo regnò sopra i figli d'Israele che abitavano nelle città di Giuda.
18 Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.	18 Allora il re Roboamo mandò Aduram, che era sopraintendente dei tributi; ma tutto Israele lo lapidò e lo fece morire. Allora il re Roboamo salì in fretta sopra un carro, e fuggì a Gerusalemme.
19 So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.	19 Così Israele si separò dalla casa di David, come è restato fino ad oggi.
20 And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.	20 Or tutto Israele, sentito che Geroboamo era tornato, mandarono a chiamarlo nell'assemblea e lo costituirono re sopra Israele. Eccettuata la sola tribù di Giuda, nessuno seguì la casa di David.
21 And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.	21 Ma Roboamo, giunto a Gerusalemme, radunò tutta la casa di Giuda e la tribù di Beniamino, cent'ottanta mila uomini, guerrieri scelti, perchè combattessero contro la casa d'Israele, per rendere il regno a Roboamo figlio di Salomone.
22 But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,	22 Ma la parola del Signore fu indirizzata a Semeia uomo di Dio, in questi termini:
23 Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, saying,	23 Parla a Roboamo, figlio di Salomone, re di Giuda, e a tutta la casa di Giuda e di Beniamino,- e a tutto il resto del popolo e di':
24 Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. They hearkened therefore to the word of the LORD, and returned to depart, according to the word of the LORD.	24 Ecco quel che dice il Signore: Voi non dovete andare a combattere contro i vostri fratelli, i figli d'Israele: torni ciascuno a casa sua, perchè questo è stato fatto da me ». Essi diedero ascolto alle parole del Signore e se ne ritornarono, come il Signore aveva loro comandato.
25 Then Jeroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein; and went out from thence, and built Penuel.	25 Geroboamo edificò Sichem nel monte d'Efraim e vi dimorò; uscitone in seguito, edificò Fanuel.
26 And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now shall the kingdom return to the house of David:	26 Geroboamo disse poi in cuor suo: « Il regno ritornerà alla casa di David,
27 If this people go up to do sacrifice in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, even unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and they shall kill me, and go again to Rehoboam king of Judah.	27 Se questo popolo va a Gerusalemme per offrire sacrifizi nella casa del Signore; rivolgendosi così il cuore di questo popolo verso il suo signore Roboamo re di Giuda, mi uccideranno per tornare a lui».
28 Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.	28 Dopo maturo consiglio fece fare due vitelli d'oro, e disse al popolo: « Non salite più a Gerusalemme: ecco, o Israele, i tuoi dèi che ti trassero dalla terra di Egitto ».
29 And he set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan.	29 Ne pose uno a Betel e uno a Dan.
30 And this thing became a sin: for the people went to worship before the one, even unto Dan.	30 Ciò fu occasione di peccato, perchè il popolo andava fino a Dan per adorare il vitello.
31 And he made an house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.	31 Egli fece pure dei templi sugli alti luoghi, e dei sacerdoti che non eran dei figli di levi, ma della feccia del popolo.
32 And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in Bethel, sacrificing unto the calves that he had made: and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made.	32 Stabilì un giorno di festa nell'ottavo mese, ai quindici del mese, a somiglianza della solennità che si celebrava in Giuda, e salì all'altare. Così fece in Betel per sacrificare ai vitelli che aveva fatti, e stabilì in Betel dei sacerdoti degli alti luoghi che egli aveva edificati.
33 So he offered upon the altar which he had made in Bethel the fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the altar, and burnt incense.	33 Sali all'altare che egli aveva edificato in Betel, il quindicesimo giorno dell'ottavo mese, che di sua testa aveva fissato: fece una festa solenne ai figli d'Israele, e salì all'altare per bruciarvi l'incenso.
