1 Now there was long war between the house of Saul and the house of David: but David waxed stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul waxed weaker and weaker.	1 La guerra fu lunga tra la casa di Saul e la casa di David; ma David avanzava e diveniva sempre più forte, mentre la casa di Saul andava sempre decadendo.
2 And unto David were sons born in Hebron: and his firstborn was Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess;	2 In Ebron nacquero a David dei figli: il suo primogenito fu Amnon, di Achinoam Iezraelita;
3 And his second, Chileab, of Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;	3 Il secondo Cheleab, di Abigail, già moglie di Nabal del Carmelo; il terzo Assalonne, figlio di Maaca, figlia di Tolmai re di Gessur;
4 And the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital;	4 il quarto Adonia, figlio di Aggit; il quinto Safatia, figlio di Abitai;
5 And the sixth, Ithream, by Eglah David's wife. These were born to David in Hebron.	5 il sesto Ietraam, figlio di Egla, moglie di David. Questi nacquero a David in Ebron.
6 And it came to pass, while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner made himself strong for the house of Saul.	6 Durante la guerra tra la casa di Saul e quella di David, colui che reggeva la casa di Saul era Abner figlio di Ner.
7 And Saul had a concubine, whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah: and Ish-bosheth said to Abner, Wherefore hast thou gone in unto my father's concubine?	7 Or Saul aveva avuta una concubina chiamata Resfa, figlia di Aia, e Isboset disse ad Abner:
8 Then was Abner very wroth for the words of Ish-bosheth, and said, Am I a dog's head, which against Judah do shew kindness this day unto the house of Saul thy father, to his brethren, and to his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David, that thou chargest me to day with a fault concerning this woman?	8 « Perchè sei entrato dalla concubina di mio padre? » Abner, oltremodo sdegnato per le parole d'Isboset, disse: « Son io forse la testa d'un cane, io che oggi son l'avversario di Giuda? Io ho usata misericordia verso la casa di Saul tuo padre, e verso i suoi fratelli e i suoi parenti; io non ti ho dato nelle mani di David, e tu hai cercato in me oggi di che riprendermi per una donna?
9 So do God to Abner, and more also, except, as the LORD hath sworn to David, even so I do to him;	9 Dio faccia ad Abner questo e peggio se io non farò con David, come il Signore gli ha giurato,
10 To translate the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beer-sheba.	10 di togliere il regno dalla casa di Saul, affinchè il trono di David s'innalzi sopra Israele e sopra Giuda, da Dan sino a Bersabee ».
11 And he could not answer Abner a word again, because he feared him.	11 Isboset non potè rispondere una sola parola ad Abner, perchè lo temeva.
12 And Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, Whose is the land? saying also, Make thy league with me, and, behold, my hand shall be with thee, to bring about all Israel unto thee.	12 Ma Abner mandò a David dei messi che da parte sua gli dicessero: « A chi appartiene il paese? » e poi aggiungessero: « Fa amicizia con me, e la mia mano verrà in tuo aiuto, ed io ricondurrò a te tutto Israele ».
13 And he said, Well; I will make a league with thee: but one thing I require of thee, that is, Thou shalt not see my face, except thou first bring Michal Saul's daughter, when thou comest to see my face.	13 David rispose: « Ottimamente: io farò amicizia con te; ma ti chiedo una sola cosa, e dico che tu non potrai vedere la mia faccia prima d'avermi condotta Micol, figlia di Saul; allora potrai venire e vedermi ».
14 And David sent messengers to Ish-bosheth Saul's son, saying, Deliver me my wife Michal, which I espoused to me for an hundred foreskins of the Philistines.	14 Poi David mandò ad Isboset, figlio di Saul, dei messi a dirgli: « Rendimi Micol mia moglie, che io ebbi in sposa per cento prepuzi dei Filistei ».
15 And Ish-bosheth sent, and took her from her husband, even from Phaltiel the son of Laish.	15 Isboset allora mandò a toglierla al suo marito Faltiel figlio di Lais.
16 And her husband went with her along weeping behind her to Bahurim. Then said Abner unto him, Go, return. And he returned.	16 Suo marito le tenne dietro piangendo fino a Bahurim, ove, avendogli detto Abner: « Va e torna indietro », egli se ne ritornò.
17 And Abner had communication with the elders of Israel, saying, Ye sought for David in times past to be king over you:	17 Abner poi prese anche a trattare cogli anziani d'Israele e a dir loro: « Giacché voi da gran tempo desiderate d'avere David come re sopra di voi,
18 Now then do it: for the LORD hath spoken of David, saying, By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.	18 fatelo; perchè il Signore ha parlato a David, dicendo: Per mezzo di David mio servo io salverò il mio popolo Israele dai Filistei e da tutti i suoi nemici».
19 And Abner also spake in the ears of Benjamin: and Abner went also to speak in the ears of David in Hebron all that seemed good to Israel, and that seemed good to the whole house of Benjamin.	19 Dopo aver parlato anche con quelli di Beniamino, Abner parti per riportare a David in Ebron le decisioni d'Israele e di tutto Beniamino.
20 So Abner came to David to Hebron, and twenty men with him. And David made Abner and the men that were with him a feast.	20 Andò dunque da David in Ebron con venti persone. David fece un convito ad Abner e agli uomini che erano venuti con lui.
21 And Abner said unto David, I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel unto my lord the king, that they may make a league with thee, and that thou mayest reign over all that thine heart desireth. And David sent Abner away; and he went in peace.	21 Abner disse a David: « Or io andrò a radunare tutto Israele intorno a te, mio re e signore, e farò alleanza con te, affinchè tu possa comandare a tutti, come desidera l'anima tua ». Or quando David ebbe accomiatato Abner, che se n'era partito in pace,
22 And, Behold, the servants of David and Joab came from pursuing a troop, and brought in a great spoil with them: but Abner was not with David in Hebron; for he had sent him away, and he was gone in peace.	22 ecco sopraggiungere con Gioab gli uomini di David, i quali, fatti a pezzi alcuni ladroni, se ne tornavano carichi di preda. Abner non era più con David in Ebron; ma, essendo stato da lui licenziato, se n'era partito in pace,
23 When Joab and all the host that was with him were come, they told Joab, saying, Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he hath sent him away, and he is gone in peace.	23 e Gioab e tutto l'esercito che era con lui arrivarono dopo. Gioab, essendogli riferita la cosa da alcuni che dicevano: « Abner figlio di Ner è venuto dal re, il quale l'ha licenziato e l'ha fatto andare in pace »,
24 Then Joab came to the king, and said, What hast thou done? behold, Abner came unto thee; why is it that thou hast sent him away, and he is quite gone?	24 entrò dal re e disse: « Che hai fatto? Ecco Abner è venuto da te. Perchè l'hai rimandato, l'hai fatto andare, l'hai fatto allontanare?
25 Thou knowest Abner the son of Ner, that he came to deceive thee, and to know thy going out and thy coming in, and to know all that thou doest.	25 Non sai che Abner figlio di Ner, è venuto da te per ingannarti, per spiare ogni tua mossa, e saper tutto quello che fai? »
26 And when Joab was come out from David, he sent messengers after Abner, which brought him again from the well of Sirah: but David knew it not.	26 Uscito da David, Gioab spedì messi dietro ad Abner, e lo fece ritornare dalla cisterna di Sira, all'insaputa di David.
27 And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him quietly, and smote him there under the fifth rib, that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.	27 Quando Abner fu ritornato in Ebron, Gioab lo tirò da parte nel mezzo della porta, per parlargli a tradimento, e lo percosse nell'inguine: egli morì per vendetta del sangue di Asael fratello di Gioab.
28 And afterward when David heard it, he said, I and my kingdom are guiltless before the LORD for ever from the blood of Abner the son of Ner:	28 David, udito che ebbe l'accaduto, disse: « Son mondo per sempre, io e il mio regno dinanzi al Signore, dal sangue di Abner figlio di Ner:
29 Let it rest on the head of Joab, and on all his father's house; and let there not fail from the house of Joab one that hath an issue, or that is a leper, or that leaneth on a staff, or that falleth on the sword, or that lacketh bread.	29 esso ricada sopra il capo di Gioab e sopra tutta la casa di suo padre, e non manchi mai nella casa di Gioab chi soffra di gonorrea, chi sia lebbroso, chi maneggi il fuso, chi perisca di spada, chi sia privo di pane ».
30 So Joab and Abishai his brother slew Abner, because he had slain their brother Asahel at Gibeon in the battle.	30 Gioab e Abisai suo fratello uccisero Abner, perchè egli aveva ucciso Asael loro fratello, nella battaglia di Gabaon.
31 And David said to Joab, and to all the people that were with him, Rend your clothes, and gird you with sackcloth, and mourn before Abner. And king David himself followed the bier.	31 Ma David disse a Gioab e a tutto il popolo che era con lui: « Stracciate le vostre vesti e cingetevi di sacco e fate duolo nei funerali di Abner ». Il re andava dietro alla bara.
32 And they buried Abner in Hebron: and the king lifted up his voice, and wept at the grave of Abner; and all the people wept.	32 Seppellito che ebbero Abner in Ebron, il re David pianse ad alte grida sopra il sepolcro di Abner e con lui pianse tutto il popolo.
33 And the king lamented over Abner, and said, Died Abner as a fool dieth?	33 Il re fece piangendo il funebre lamento e disse: « Non come soglion morire i vili è morto Abner:
34 Thy hands were not bound, nor thy feet put into fetters: as a man falleth before wicked men, so fellest thou. And all the people wept again over him.	34 le tue mani non sono state legate; i tuoi piedi non sono stati messi nei ceppi: sei caduto come si cade dinanzi ai figli d'iniquità! » Tutto il popolo seguitò il pianto sopra Abner,
35 And when all the people came to cause David to eat meat while it was yet day, David sware, saying, So do God to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or ought else, till the sun be down.	35 e quando tutta la gente andò per prender cibo con David, essendo ancora giorno, David giurò e disse: « Dio mi faccia questo e peggio, se assaggio pane o altra cosa prima del tramonto del sole! »
36 And all the people took notice of it, and it pleased them: as whatsoever the king did pleased all the people.	36 Tutto il popolo udì, e gli piacquero tutte le cose che il re aveva fatte al cospetto di tutto il popolo;
37 For all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not of the king to slay Abner the son of Ner.	37 e in quel giorno tutto il popolo e tutto Israele riconobbe che non era stato il re la causa della morte di Abner figlio di Ner.
38 And the king said unto his servants, Know ye not that there is a prince and a great man fallen this day in Israel?	38 Poi David disse ai suoi servi: « Non sapete voi che un principe, e uno dei più grandi, è caduto oggi in Israele?
39 And I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah be too hard for me: the LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness.	39 Io sono tutt'ora debole sebbene unto re e questi figli di Sarvia son duri per me: renda il Signore a chi fa il male secondo la sua malizia ».
