1 Now there was long war between the house of Saul and the house of David: but David waxed stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul waxed weaker and weaker.	1 Hubo una larga guerra entre la casa de Saúl y la de David; y mientras la casa de David se iba fortaleciendo, la de Saúl se debilitaba cada vez más.
2 And unto David were sons born in Hebron: and his firstborn was Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess;	2 David tuvo varios hijos en Hebrón. El mayor fue Amnón, hijo de Ajinóam de Izreel;
3 And his second, Chileab, of Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;	3 el segundo, Quilab, hijo de Abigail, la mujer de Nabal de Carmel; el tercero, Absalón, hijo de Maacá, la hija de Talmai, rey de Guesur;
4 And the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital;	4 el cuarto, Adonías, hijo de Jaguit; el quinto, Sefatías, hijo de Abital;
5 And the sixth, Ithream, by Eglah David's wife. These were born to David in Hebron.	5 y el sexto, Itream, hijo de Eglá, esposa de David. Todos estos hijos le nacieron a David en Hebrón.
6 And it came to pass, while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner made himself strong for the house of Saul.	6 Mientras duraba la guerra entre la casa de Saúl y la de David, Abner afianzaba su posición en la casa de Saúl.
7 And Saul had a concubine, whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah: and Ish-bosheth said to Abner, Wherefore hast thou gone in unto my father's concubine?	7 Saúl había tenido una concubina llamada Rispá, hija de Aiá. E Isbaal dijo a Abner: «¿Por qué te has unido a la concubina de mi padre?».
8 Then was Abner very wroth for the words of Ish-bosheth, and said, Am I a dog's head, which against Judah do shew kindness this day unto the house of Saul thy father, to his brethren, and to his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David, that thou chargest me to day with a fault concerning this woman?	8 Abner se enfureció por las palabras de Isbaal y replicó: «¿Acaso yo soy un perro, de esos de Judá? Hasta hoy he procedido lealmente con la casa de tu padre Saúl, con sus hermanos y amigos, y no te dejé caer en manos de David. ¡Y ahora tú me recriminas a causa de esa mujer!
9 So do God to Abner, and more also, except, as the LORD hath sworn to David, even so I do to him;	9 Que Dios me castigue una y otra vez, si no me comporto con David conforme al juramento que le hizo el Señor,
10 To translate the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beer-sheba.	10 de quitar la realeza a la casa de Saúl y establecer el trono de David sobre Israel y sobre Judá, desde Dan hasta Berseba».
11 And he could not answer Abner a word again, because he feared him.	11 Isbaal no fue capaz de responder a Abner ni una sola palabra, porque le tenía miedo.
12 And Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, Whose is the land? saying also, Make thy league with me, and, behold, my hand shall be with thee, to bring about all Israel unto thee.	12 Entonces Abner envió unos mensajeros, para que dijeran a David en nombre suyo: «¿De quién va a ser el país?». Y también: «Sella conmigo un pacto, y yo cooperaré contigo para que todo Israel se ponga de tu parte».
13 And he said, Well; I will make a league with thee: but one thing I require of thee, that is, Thou shalt not see my face, except thou first bring Michal Saul's daughter, when thou comest to see my face.	13 David respondió: «Está bien, haré un pacto contigo. Pero sólo te pido una cosa: no te presentarás ante mí, si no me traes a Mical, la hija de Saúl, cuando vengas a verme».
14 And David sent messengers to Ish-bosheth Saul's son, saying, Deliver me my wife Michal, which I espoused to me for an hundred foreskins of the Philistines.	14 Además, David envió mensajeros a Isbaal, hijo de Saúl, para intimarle: «Devuélveme a Mical, mi mujer, a la que yo adquirí por cien prepucios de filisteos».
15 And Ish-bosheth sent, and took her from her husband, even from Phaltiel the son of Laish.	15 Entonces Isbaal mandó que se la sacaran a su marido Paltiel, hijo de Lais.
16 And her husband went with her along weeping behind her to Bahurim. Then said Abner unto him, Go, return. And he returned.	16 Su marido la acompañó y fue llorando detrás de ella hasta Bajurím. Pero Abner le dijo: «¡Vamos, vuélvete!». Y él se volvió.
17 And Abner had communication with the elders of Israel, saying, Ye sought for David in times past to be king over you:	17 Mientras tanto, Abner se había entrevistado con los ancianos de Israel, diciendo: «Ya hace tiempo que ustedes quieren a David como rey.
18 Now then do it: for the LORD hath spoken of David, saying, By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.	18 Actúen ahora mismo, porque el Señor le ha dicho: «Por medio de David salvaré a mi pueblo Israel del poder de los filisteos y del poder de todos sus enemigos».
19 And Abner also spake in the ears of Benjamin: and Abner went also to speak in the ears of David in Hebron all that seemed good to Israel, and that seemed good to the whole house of Benjamin.	19 Abner habló también a los hombres de Benjamín, y luego fue a comunicarle personalmente a David, en Hebrón, lo que habían acordado Israel y toda la casa de Benjamín.
20 So Abner came to David to Hebron, and twenty men with him. And David made Abner and the men that were with him a feast.	20 Abner, acompañado de veinte hombres, se presentó a David en Hebrón, y este les ofreció un banquete.
21 And Abner said unto David, I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel unto my lord the king, that they may make a league with thee, and that thou mayest reign over all that thine heart desireth. And David sent Abner away; and he went in peace.	21 Abner dijo a David: «Ahora mismo iré a reunir a todo Israel ante el rey, mi señor. Ellos harán un pacto contigo, y tú reinarás conforme a tus deseos». David despidió a Abner, y él se fue en paz.
22 And, Behold, the servants of David and Joab came from pursuing a troop, and brought in a great spoil with them: but Abner was not with David in Hebron; for he had sent him away, and he was gone in peace.	22 Poco después, los servidores de David llegaron con Joab de una incursión, trayendo un gran botín. Abner ya no estaba con David en Hebrón, porque este lo había despedido y él se había ido en paz.
23 When Joab and all the host that was with him were come, they told Joab, saying, Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he hath sent him away, and he is gone in peace.	23 Apenas llegó Joab con toda la tropa que lo acompañaba, fueron a decirle: «Abner, hijo de Ner, vino a ver al rey y este lo dejó partir en paz».
24 Then Joab came to the king, and said, What hast thou done? behold, Abner came unto thee; why is it that thou hast sent him away, and he is quite gone?	24 Entonces Joab se presentó al rey y le dijo: «¿Qué has hecho? Ahora que Abner ha venido a verte, ¿por qué lo has dejado irse tranquilamente?
25 Thou knowest Abner the son of Ner, that he came to deceive thee, and to know thy going out and thy coming in, and to know all that thou doest.	25 Tú sabes bien quién es Abner, hijo de Ner. El ha venido a engañarte, para enterarse de tus movimientos y saber todo lo que haces».
26 And when Joab was come out from David, he sent messengers after Abner, which brought him again from the well of Sirah: but David knew it not.	26 Joab salió de la presencia de David y envió detrás de Abner unos mensajeros, que lo hicieron volver desde la cisterna de Sirá, sin que David supiera nada.
27 And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him quietly, and smote him there under the fifth rib, that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.	27 Cuando Abner estuvo de vuelta en Hebrón, Joab lo llevó aparte a un lado de la entrada, como para hablar con él en privado, y allí lo hirió mortalmente en el bajo vientre, a causa de la sangre de su hermano Asael.
28 And afterward when David heard it, he said, I and my kingdom are guiltless before the LORD for ever from the blood of Abner the son of Ner:	28 David se enteró en seguida de lo sucedido y exclamó: «Yo y mi reino somos inocentes para siempre, delante del Señor, de la sangre de Abner, hijo de Ner.
29 Let it rest on the head of Joab, and on all his father's house; and let there not fail from the house of Joab one that hath an issue, or that is a leper, or that leaneth on a staff, or that falleth on the sword, or that lacketh bread.	29 ¡Que ella recaiga sobre Joab y sobre toda la casa de su padre! ¡Que nunca falten en la casa de Joab quienes padezcan de blenorrea y de lepra, ni afeminados, ni muertos por la espada, ni hambrientos!».
30 So Joab and Abishai his brother slew Abner, because he had slain their brother Asahel at Gibeon in the battle.	30 Joab y su hermano Abisai dieron muerte a Abner, porque él les había matado a su hermano Asael, en Gabaón, durante un combate.
31 And David said to Joab, and to all the people that were with him, Rend your clothes, and gird you with sackcloth, and mourn before Abner. And king David himself followed the bier.	31 Luego David dijo a Joab y a todo el pueblo que estaba con él: «Rasguen sus vestiduras, vístanse de luto y laméntense por Abner». Y el rey David iba caminando detrás del féretro,
32 And they buried Abner in Hebron: and the king lifted up his voice, and wept at the grave of Abner; and all the people wept.	32 cuando sepultaron a Abner en Hebrón. El rey prorrumpió en sollozos ante la tumba de Abner, y todo el pueblo se puso a llorar.
33 And the king lamented over Abner, and said, Died Abner as a fool dieth?	33 Entonces el rey entonó este canto fúnebre por Abner: «¿Tenía que morir Abner como muere un insensato?
34 Thy hands were not bound, nor thy feet put into fetters: as a man falleth before wicked men, so fellest thou. And all the people wept again over him.	34 Tus manos no estaban atadas ni tus pies sujetos con grillos. ¡Has caído como quien cae víctima de malhechores!». Y todos siguieron llorando por él.
35 And when all the people came to cause David to eat meat while it was yet day, David sware, saying, So do God to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or ought else, till the sun be down.	35 Todo el pueblo trató de obligar a David a que comiera algo cuando aún era de día, pero David pronunció este juramento: «¡Que Dios me castigue una y otra vez, si llego a probar pan o cualquier otro bocado antes de la puesta del sol!».
36 And all the people took notice of it, and it pleased them: as whatsoever the king did pleased all the people.	36 Y todo el pueblo, al tener conocimiento de esto, lo aprobó, al tener conocimiento de esto, lo aprobó, como aprobaba todo lo que hacía el rey.
37 For all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not of the king to slay Abner the son of Ner.	37 Así el pueblo y todo Israel se convencieron aquel día de que el rey no había intervenido en el asesinato de Abner, hijo de Ner.
38 And the king said unto his servants, Know ye not that there is a prince and a great man fallen this day in Israel?	38 Luego el rey dijo a sus servidores: «¡Sepan que hoy ha caído en Israel un jefe, un gran hombre!
39 And I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah be too hard for me: the LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness.	39 A pesar de mi unción real, hoy yo me siento desvalido, mientras que estos, los hijos de Seruiá, son más duros que yo. ¡Que el Señor le dé su merecido al que ha hecho el mal!».
