1 And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river.	1 Deux ans après, le Pharaon eut un songe. Il lui semblait qu'il était sur le bord du fleuve,
2 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven well favoured kine and fatfleshed; and they fed in a meadow.	2 D'où sortaient sept vaches fort belles et extrêmement grasses, qui paissaient dans les marécages;
3 And, behold, seven other kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other kine upon the brink of the river.	3 Qu'ensuite il en sortit sept autres toutes défigurées et extraordinairement maigres, qui paissaient sur le bord du même fleuve, en des lieux pleins d'herbes;
4 And the ill favoured and leanfleshed kine did eat up the seven well favoured and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke.	4 Et que celles-ci dévorèrent les premières, qui étaient si grasses et si belles. Le Pharaon, s'étant éveillé,
5 And he slept and dreamed the second time: and, behold, seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk, rank and good.	5 Se rendormit, et il eut un second songe. Il vit sept épis pleins de grains et très beaux, qui sortaient d'une même tige.
6 And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them.	6 Il en vit aussi paraître sept autres fort maigres, qu'un vent brûlant avait desséchés;
7 And the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.	7 Et ceux-ci dévorèrent les premiers, qui étaient si beaux. Le Pharaon, s'étant éveillé
8 And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.	8 Le matin, fut saisi de frayeur; et ayant envoyé chercher tous les devins et tous les sages d'Egypte, il leur raconta son songe, sans qu'il s'en trouvât un seul qui pût l'interpréter.
9 Then spake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day:	9 Le grand échanson, s'étant enfin souvenu de Joseph, dit au roi: Je confesse ma faute.
10 Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the captain of the guard's house, both me and the chief baker:	10 Lorsque le roi, irrité contre ses serviteurs, commanda que je fusse mis avec le grand panetier dans la prison du général de ses troupes,
11 And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.	11 Nous eûmes tous deux en une même nuit un songe, qui nous prédisait ce qui nous arriva ensuite.
12 And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret.	12 Il y avait alors en cette prison un jeune Hébreux, serviteur du même général de l'armée; nous lui avons raconté chacun notre songe,
13 And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored unto mine office, and him he hanged.	13 Et il nous dit tout ce que l'événement confirma depuis; car je fus rétabli dans ma charge, et le grand panetier fut pendu à un gibet.
14 Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh.	14 Aussitôt Joseph fut tiré de la prison par ordre du roi; on le rasa, on lui fit changer de vêtements et on le présenta au prince.
15 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.	15 Le Pharaon lui dit: J'ai eu des songes; je ne trouve personne qui les interprète, et l'on m'a dit que vous aviez une grande sagesse pour les expliquer.
16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.	16 Joseph lui répondit: Ce sera Dieu, et non pas moi, qui rendra au Pharaon une réponse favorable.
17 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the bank of the river:	17 Le Pharaon lui raconta donc ce qu'il avait vu. Il me semblait, dit-il, que j'étais sur le bord du fleuve,
18 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fatfleshed and well favoured; and they fed in a meadow:	18 D'où sortaient sept vaches fort belles et extrêmement grasses, qui paissaient l'herbe dans des marécages;
19 And, behold, seven other kine came up after them, poor and very ill favoured and leanfleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness:	19 Et qu'ensuite il en sortit sept autres, si défigurées et si prodigieusement maigres, que je n'en ai jamais vu de telles en Egypte.
20 And the lean and the ill favoured kine did eat up the first seven fat kine:	20 Ces dernières dévorèrent et consommèrent les premières,
21 And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were still ill favoured, as at the beginning. So I awoke.	21 Sans qu'elles parussent en aucune sorte en être rassasiées; mais elles demeurèrent aussi maigres et aussi affreuses qu'elles étaient auparavant. M'étant éveillé, je me rendormis,
22 And I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up in one stalk, full and good:	22 Et j'eus un second songe. Je vis sept épis pleins de grains et très beaux qui sortaient d'une même tige.
23 And, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them:	23 Il en parut en même temps sept autres fort maigres, qu'un vent brûlant avait desséchés.
24 And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears: and I told this unto the magicians; but there was none that could declare it to me.	24 Et ces derniers dévorèrent les premiers, qui étaient si beaux. J'ai dit mon songe à tous les devins, et je n'en trouve point qui me l'explique.
25 And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do.	25 Joseph répondit: Les deux songes du roi signifient la même chose: Dieu a montré au Pharaon ce qu'il fera dans la suite.
26 The seven good kine are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years: the dream is one.	26 Les sept vaches si belles et les sept épis si pleins de grains, que le roi a vus en songe, marquent la même chose, et signifient sept années d'abondance.
27 And the seven thin and ill favoured kine that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind shall be seven years of famine.	27 Les sept vaches maigres et défaites, qui sont sorties du fleuve après les premières, et les sept épis maigres et frappés d'un vent brûlant, marquent sept autres années d'une famine qui doit arriver.
28 This is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he sheweth unto Pharaoh.	28 Et cela s'accomplira de cette sorte:
29 Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt:	29 Il viendra d'abord, dans toute l'Egypte, sept années d'une fertilité extraordinaire,
30 And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;	30 Qui seront suivies de sept autres d'une si grande stérilité, qu'elle fera oublier toute l'abondance qui l'aura précédée: car la famine consumera toute la terre;
31 And the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following; for it shall be very grievous.	31 Et cette fertilité si extraordinaire sera comme absorbée par l'extrême indigence qui la suivra.
32 And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.	32 Quant au second songe que vous avez eu, et qui signifie la même chose, c'est une marque que cette parole de Dieu, sera ferme, qu'elle s'accomplira infailliblement et bientôt.
33 Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.	33 Il est donc de la prudence du roi de choisir un homme sage et habile, à qui il donne le commandement sur toute l'Egypte;
34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years.	34 Afin qu'il établisse des officiers dans toutes les provinces, et que, pendant les sept années de fertilité qui vont venir, ils amassent dans les greniers publics la cinquième partie des fruits de la terre,
35 And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.	35 De sorte que tout le blé se serre et se garde dans les villes, sous l'autorité du roi;
36 And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine.	36 Et qu'ainsi il soit réservé pour les sept années de la famine qui doit accabler l'Egypte, et que ce pays ne soit pas consumé par la faim.
37 And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.	37 Ce conseil plut au Pharaon et à tous ses ministres;
38 And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?	38 Et il leur dit: Où pourrions-nous trouver un homme comme celui-ci, qui fût aussi rempli de l'esprit de Dieu?
39 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:	39 Il dit donc à Joseph: Puisque Dieu vous a fait voir tout ce que vous nous avez dit, où pourrai-je trouver quelqu'un plus sage que vous, ou même semblable à vous?
40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.	40 C'est vous qui aurez l'autorité sur ma maison. Quand vous ouvrirez la bouche pour commander, tout le peuple vous obéira, et je n'aurai au-dessus de vous que le trône et la qualité de roi.
41 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.	41 Le Pharaon dit encore à Joseph: Je vous établis aujourd'hui pour commander à toute l'Egypte.
42 And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;	42 En même temps il ôta son anneau de sa main et le mit en celle de Joseph; il le fit revêtir d'une robe de fin lin, et lui mit au cou un collier d'or.
43 And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.	43 Il le fit ensuite monter sur l'un de ses chars, qui était le second après le sien, et fit crier par un héraut que tout le monde fléchît le genou devant lui, et que tous reconnussent qu'il avait été établi pour commander à toute l'Egypte.
44 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.	44 Le roi dit encore à Joseph: Je suis le Pharaon; nul ne remuera ni le pied ni la main dans toute l'Egypte que par votre commandement.
45 And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnath-paaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Poti-pherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.	45 Il changea aussi son nom, et il l'appela, en langue égyptienne, le Sauveur du monde. Et il lui fit épouser Aséneth, fille de Putipharé, prêtre d'Héliopolis. Après cela Joseph alla visiter l'Egypte
46 And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.	46 (Il avait trente ans lorsqu'il parut devant le Pharaon), et il fit le tour de toutes les provinces d'Egypte.
47 And in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls.	47 Les sept années de fertilité vinrent donc; et le blé, ayant été mis en gerbes, fut serré ensuite dans les greniers de l'Egypte.
48 And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same.	48 On mit aussi en réserve dans toutes les villes cette grande abondance de grains.
49 And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left numbering; for it was without number.	49 Car il y eut une si grande quantité de froment, qu'elle égalait le sable de la mer et qu'elle ne pouvait pas même se mesurer.
50 And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath the daughter of Poti-pherah priest of On bare unto him.	50 Avant que la famine vînt, Joseph eut deux enfants de sa femme Aséneth, fille de Putipharé, prêtre d'Héliopolis.
51 And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house.	51 Il nomma l'aîné Manassé, en disant: Dieu m'a fait oublier tous mes travaux et la maison de mon père.
52 And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.	52 Il nomma le second Ephraïm, en disant: Dieu m'a fait croître dans la terre de ma pauvreté.
53 And the seven years of plenteousness, that was in the land of Egypt, were ended.	53 Ces sept années de la fertilité d'Egypte étant donc passées,
54 And the seven years of dearth began to come, according as Joseph had said: and the dearth was in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.	54 Les sept années de stérilité vinrent ensuite, selon la prédiction de Joseph; une grande famine survint dans tout le monde, mais il y avait du blé dans toute l'Egypte.
55 And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: and Pharaoh said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do.	55 Quand le peuple de ce pays fut aussi pressé de la famine, il cria vers le Pharaon et lui demanda de quoi vivre. Mais il leur dit: Allez à Joseph, et faites tout ce qu'il vous dira.
56 And the famine was over all the face of the earth: and Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold unto the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt.	56 Cependant la famine croissait tous les jours dans toute la terre; et Joseph, ouvrant tous les greniers, vendait du blé aux Egyptiens, parce qu'ils étaient tourmentés eux-mêmes de la famine.
57 And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands.	57 Et on venait de toutes les provinces en Egypte pour acheter de quoi vivre, et pour trouver quelque soulagement dans la rigueur de cette famine.
