1 And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids.	1 Quando Giacobbe, alzando gli occhi,vide venire Esaù con i quattrocento uomini, divisi i figlioli di Lia, di Rachele e delle due ancelle, smise davanti le due
2 And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.	2 ancelle e i loro figli, poi Lia e i suoi figli, e finalmente Rachele e Giuseppe.
3 And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.	3 Egli poi andando innanzi, si prostrò sette volte a terra, finché non fu vicino il suo fratello.
4 And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.	4 Allora Esaù gli corse incontro, lo abbracciò, e, stringendolo al collo e baciandolo, pianse.
5 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant.	5 Poi, alzati gli occhi e vedute le donne coi loro figli, disse: « Chi son questi? Sono tuoi? » Rispose: « Sono i figli che Dio ha donato a me tuo servo ».
6 Then the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.	6 Allora s'accostarono le ancelle coi loro figlioli e si prostrarono:
7 And Leah also with her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves.	7 Si accostò pure Lia con i suoi figlioli, e dopo che essi si furono ugualmente prostrati, vennero ultimi a prostrarsi Giuseppe e Rachele.
8 And he said, What meanest thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, These are to find grace in the sight of my lord.	8 Ed Esaù disse: « Che significano le mandre che ho incontrate? » Rispose: « Son per trovar grazia davanti al mio signore ».
9 And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself.	9 Ed Esaù: « Della roba ne ho anche troppa, fratello mio; tienti pure il tuo per te ».
10 And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.	10 E Giacobbe: «Non far cosi, ti prego, ma se ho trovata grazia negli occhi tuoi, accetta dalle mie mani il piccolo dono, giacché ho veduto la tua faccia come se vedessi il volto di Dio: siimi propizio,
11 Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.	11 e accetta la benedizione che ti ho recato e che io ho ricevuto da Dio, datore d'ogni bene ». Ed Esaù, forzato dal fratello, a stento accettò,
12 And he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee.	12 e disse: « Andiamo assieme, ed io ti sarò compagno nel viaggio ».
13 And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young are with me: and if men should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die.	13 Ma Giacobbe rispose: « Tu vedi, signor mio, come io abbia dei teneri bambini, e pecore e vacche pregne: se fossero sforzati a camminare, in un giorno morranno tutti i greggi.
14 Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goeth before me and the children be able to endure, until I come unto my lord unto Seir.	14 Vada il mio signore davanti al suo servo, ed io lo seguirò piano piano col passo dei miei bambini, finche non giunga a Seir presso il mio signore ».
15 And Esau said, Let me now leave with thee some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What needeth it? let me find grace in the sight of my lord.	15 Esaù rispose: «Permetti almeno che restino alcuni della mia gente ad accompagnarti nel viaggio ». Ma Giacobbe rispose: « Non è necessario: io ho solo bisogno di trovar grazia nel tuo cospetto, mio signore ».
16 So Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir.	16 Cosi Esaù in quel giorno tornò a Seir, rifacendo la strada per la quale era venuto.
17 And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.	17 E Giacobbe giunse a Socot, a cui per avervi fabbricata una casa e piantate le tende, diede il nome di Socot, che vuol dire: tende.
18 And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan-aram; and pitched his tent before the city.	18 E dopo il suo ritorno dalla Mesopotamia di Siria, Giacobbe passò a Salem città dei Sichimiti, nella terra di Canaan, e abitò presso la città.
19 And he bought a parcel of a field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem's father, for an hundred pieces of money.	19 E per cento agnelli comprò dai figli di Hemor, padre di Sichem, quella parte di campo dove aveva piantate le tende;
20 And he erected there an altar, and called it El-elohe-Israel.	20 ed ivi, alzato un altare, invocò il fortissimo Dio d'Israele.
