1 And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids.	1 Jacob levantó los ojos y al ver que venía Esaú con cuatrocientos hombres, repartió a los niños entre Lía y Raquel y las dos siervas.
2 And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.	2 Puso a las siervas y sus niños al frente; después a Lía y sus niños, y a Raquel y José en la zaga,
3 And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.	3 y él se les adelantó y se inclinó en tierra siete veces, hasta llegar donde su hermano.
4 And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.	4 Esaú, a su vez, corrió a su encuentro, le abrazó, se le echó al cuello, le besó y lloró.
5 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant.	5 Levantó luego los ojos, y al ver a las mujeres y a los niños, dijo: «¿Qué son de ti éstos?» - «Son los hijos que ha otorgado Dios a tu siervo.»
6 Then the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.	6 Entonces se acercaron las siervas con sus niños, y se inclinaron.
7 And Leah also with her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves.	7 Acercóse también Lía con sus niños, y se inclinaron. Y por último se acercaron José y Raquel y se inclinaron.
8 And he said, What meanest thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, These are to find grace in the sight of my lord.	8 Dijo Esaú: «¿Qué pretendes con toda esta caravana que acabo de encontrar?» - «Es para hallar gracias a los ojos de mi señor.»
9 And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself.	9 Dijo Esaú: «Tengo bastante, hermano mío; sea para ti lo tuyo.»
10 And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.	10 Replicó Jacob: «De ninguna manera. Si he hallado gracias a tus ojos, toma mi regalo de mi mano, ya que he visto tu rostro como quien ve el rostro de Dios, y me has mostrado simpatía.
11 Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.	11 Acepta, pues, el obsequio que te he traído; pues Dios me ha favorecido y tengo de todo.» E instóle tanto que aceptó.
12 And he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee.	12 Dijo Esaú: «Vámonos de aquí, y yo te daré escolta.»
13 And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young are with me: and if men should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die.	13 El le dijo: «Mi señor sabe que los niños son tiernos, y que tengo conmigo ovejas y vacas criando; un día de ajetreo bastaría para que muriese todo el rebaño.
14 Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goeth before me and the children be able to endure, until I come unto my lord unto Seir.	14 Adelántese, pues, mi señor a su siervo, que yo avanzaré despacito, al paso del ganado que llevo delante, y al paso de los niños, hasta que llegue donde mi señor, a Seír.»
15 And Esau said, Let me now leave with thee some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What needeth it? let me find grace in the sight of my lord.	15 Dijo Esaú: «Entonces voy a destacar contigo a parte de la gente que me acompaña.» - «¿Para qué tal? Con que halle yo gracia a los ojos de mi señor...»
16 So Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir.	16 Rehízo, pues, Esaú aquel mismo día su camino rumbo a Seír,
17 And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.	17 y Jacob partió para Sukkot donde edificó para sí una casa y para su ganado hizo cabañas. Por donde se llamó aquel lugar Sukkot.
18 And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan-aram; and pitched his tent before the city.	18 Jacob llegó sin novedad a la ciudad de Siquem, que está en el territorio cananeo, viniendo de Paddán Aram, y acampó frente a la ciudad.
19 And he bought a parcel of a field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem's father, for an hundred pieces of money.	19 Compró a los hijos de Jamor, padre de Siquem, por cien agnos la parcela de campo donde había desplegado su tienda,
20 And he erected there an altar, and called it El-elohe-Israel.	20 erigió allí un altar, y lo llamó de «El», Dios de Israel.
