Épître aux Hébreux 12

JERUSALEM	KING JAMES BIBLE
1 Voilà donc pourquoi nous aussi, enveloppés que nous sommes d'une si grande nuée de témoins,nous devons rejeter tout fardeau et le péché qui nous assiège et courir avec constance l'épreuve qui nous estproposée,	1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 fixant nos yeux sur le chef de notre foi, qui la mène à la perfection, Jésus, qui au lieu de la joie quilui était proposée, endura une croix, dont il méprisa l'infamie, et qui est assis désormais à la droite du trône deDieu.	2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 Songez à celui qui a enduré de la part des pécheurs une telle contradiction, afin de ne pas défaillirpar lassitude de vos âmes.	3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
4 Vous n'avez pas encore résisté jusqu'au sang dans la lutte contre le péché.	4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
5 Avez-vous oublié l'exhortation qui s'adresse à vous comme à des fils: Mon fils, ne méprise pas lacorrection du Seigneur, et ne te décourage pas quand il te reprend.	5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
6 Car celui qu'aime le Seigneur, il le corrige, et il châtie tout fils qu'il agrée.	6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7 C'est pour votre correction que vous souffrez. C'est en fils que Dieu vous traite. Et quel est le filsque ne corrige son père?	7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
8 Si vous êtes exempts de cette correction, dont tous ont leur part, c'est que vous êtes des bâtards etnon des fils.	8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
9 D'ailleurs, nous avons eu pour nous corriger nos pères selon la chair, et nous les respections. Neserons-nous pas soumis bien davantage au Père des esprits pour avoir la vie?	9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
10 Ceux-là, en effet, nous corrigeaient pendant peu de temps et au juger; mais lui, c'est pour notrebien, afin de nous faire participer à sa sainteté.	10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
11 Certes, toute correction ne paraît pas sur le moment être un sujet de joie, mais de tristesse. Plustard cependant, elle rapporte à ceux qu'elle a exercés un fruit de paix et de justice.	11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
12 C'est pourquoi redressez vos mains inertes et vos genoux fléchissants,	12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;
13 et rendez droits pour vos pas les sentiers tortueux, afin que le boiteux ne dévie point, mais plutôtqu'il guérisse.	13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.
14 Recherchez la paix avec tous, et la sanctification sans laquelle personne ne verra le Seigneur;	14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
15 veillant à ce que personne ne soit privé de la grâce de Dieu, à ce qu'aucune racine amère nepousse des rejetons et ne cause du trouble, ce qui contaminerait toute la masse,	15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
16 à ce qu'enfin il n'y ait aucun impudique ni profanateur, comme Esaü qui, pour un seul mets, livrason droit d'aînesse.	16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.
17 Vous savez bien que, par la suite, quand il voulut obtenir la bénédiction, il fut rejeté; car il ne putobtenir un changement de sentiment, bien qu'il l'eût recherché avec larmes.	17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.
18 Vous ne vous êtes pas approchés d'une réalité palpable: feu ardent, obscurité, ténèbres, ouragan,	18 For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,
19 bruit de trompette, et clameur de paroles telle que ceux qui l'entendirent supplièrent qu'on ne leurparlât pas davantage.	19 And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:
20 Ils ne pouvaient en effet supporter cette prescription: Quiconque touchera la montagne, même sic'est un animal, sera lapidé.	20 (For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:
21 Si terrible était le spectacle que Moïse dit: Je suis effrayé et tout tremblant.	21 And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)
22 Mais vous vous êtes approchés de la montagne de Sion et de la cité du Dieu vivant, de laJérusalem céleste, et de myriades d'anges, réunion de fête,	22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
23 et de l'assemblée des premiers-nés qui sont inscrits dans les cieux, d'un Dieu Juge universel, etdes esprits des justes qui ont été rendus parfaits,	23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
24 de Jésus médiateur d'une alliance nouvelle, et d'un sang purificateur plus éloquent que celuid'Abel.	24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
25 Prenez garde de ne pas refuser d'écouter Celui qui parle. Si ceux, en effet, qui ont refuséd'écouter celui qui promulguait des oracles sur cette terre n'ont pas échappé au châtiment, à combien plus forteraison n'y échapperons-nous pas, si nous nous détournons de Celui qui parle des cieux.	25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:
26 Celui dont la voix jadis ébranla la terre nous a fait maintenant cette promesse: Encore une fois,moi j'ébranlerai non seulement la terre mais aussi le ciel.	26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.
27 Cet encore une fois indique que les choses ébranlées seront changées, puisque ce sont desréalités créées, pour que subsistent celles qui sont inébranlables.	27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Ainsi, puisque nous recevons la possession d'un royaume inébranlable, retenons fermement lagrâce, et par elle rendons à Dieu un culte qui lui soit agréable, avec religion et crainte.	28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
29 En effet, notre Dieu est un feu consumant.	29 For our God is a consuming fire.
