JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Yahvé me dit alors: "Taille deux tables de pierre comme les premières, monte vers moi sur lamontagne et fais-toi une arche de bois.	1 "At that time the LORD said to me, 'Cut two tablets of stone like the former; then come up the mountain to me. Also make an ark of wood.
2 J'écrirai sur les tables les paroles qui étaient sur les premières tables que tu as brisées, puis tules déposeras dans l'arche."	2 I will write upon the tablets the commandments that were on the former tablets that you broke, and you shall place them in the ark.'
3 Je fis une arche en bois d'acacia, je taillai les deux tables de pierre semblables aux premières,et je montai sur la montagne, les deux tables à la main.	3 So I made an ark of acacia wood, and cut two tablets of stone like the former, and went up the mountain carrying the two tablets.
4 Il écrivit sur les tables, comme la première fois, les dix Paroles que Yahvé vous avait ditessur la montagne, du milieu du feu, au jour de l'Assemblée. Puis Yahvé me les donna.	4 The LORD then wrote on them, as he had written before, the ten commandments which he spoke to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly. After the LORD had given them to me,
5 Je redescendis de la montagne, je mis les tables dans l'arche que j'avais faite et elles yrestèrent, comme Yahvé me l'avait ordonné.	5 I turned and came down the mountain, and placed the tablets in the ark I had made. There they have remained, in keeping with the command the LORD gave me.
6 Les Israélites quittèrent les puits des Bené-Yaaqân pour Moséra, c'est là que mourut Aaron;il fut enterré là, et c'est Eléazar son fils qui lui succéda comme prêtre.	6 (The Israelites set out from Beeroth Bene-jaakan for Moserah, where Aaron died and was buried, his son Eleazar succeeding him in the priestly office.
7 Ils partirent de là pour Gudgoda, et de Gudgoda pour Yotbata, terre riche en cours d'eau.	7 From there they set out for Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah for Jotbathah, a region where there is water in the wadies.)
8 Yahvé mit alors à part la tribu de Lévi, pour porter l'arche de l'alliance de Yahvé, se tenir enprésence de Yahvé, le servir et bénir en son nom jusqu'à ce jour.	8 "At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to be in attendance before the LORD and minister to him, and to give blessings in his name, as they have done to this day.
9 Aussi n'y eut-il pas pour Lévi de part ni d'héritage avec ses frères: c'est Yahvé qui est sonhéritage comme Yahvé ton Dieu le lui a dit.	9 For this reason, Levi has no share in the heritage with his brothers; the LORD himself is his heritage, as the LORD, your God, has told him.
10 Pour moi, je me tins sur la montagne, comme la première fois, 40 jours et 40 nuits. Cettefois encore Yahvé m'exauça, et Yahvé renonça à te détruire.	10 "After I had spent these other forty days and forty nights on the mountain, and the LORD had once again heard me and decided not to destroy you,
11 Mais Yahvé me dit: "Debout! Pars et va-t-en à la tête de ce peuple, afin qu'ils aillentprendre possession du pays que j'ai juré à leurs pères de leur donner."	11 he said to me, 'Go now and set out at the head of your people, that they may enter in and occupy the land which I swore to their fathers I would give them.'
12 Et maintenant, Israël, que te demande Yahvé ton Dieu, sinon de craindre Yahvé ton Dieu,de suivre toutes ses voies, de l'aimer, de servir Yahvé ton Dieu de tout ton coeur et de toute ton âme,	12 "And now, Israel, what does the LORD, your God, ask of you but to fear the LORD, your God, and follow his ways exactly, to love and serve the LORD, your God, with all your heart and all your soul,
13 de garder les commandements de Yahvé et ses lois que je te prescris aujourd'hui pour tonbonheur?	13 to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD which I enjoin on you today for your own good?
14 C'est bien à Yahvé ton Dieu qu'appartiennent les cieux et les cieux des cieux, la terre et toutce qui s'y trouve.	14 Think! The heavens, even the highest heavens, belong to the LORD, your God, as well as the earth and everything on it.
15 Yahvé pourtant ne s'est attaché qu'à tes pères, par amour pour eux, et après eux il a élu entretoutes les nations leur descendance, vous-mêmes, jusqu'aujourd'hui.	15 Yet in his love for your fathers the LORD was so attached to them as to choose you, their descendants, in preference to all other peoples, as indeed he has now done.
16 Circoncisez votre coeur et ne raidissez plus votre nuque,	16 Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and be no longer stiff-necked.
17 car Yahvé votre Dieu est le Dieu des dieux et le Seigneur des seigneurs, le Dieu grand,vaillant et redoutable, qui ne fait pas acception de personnes et ne reçoit pas de présents.	17 For the LORD, your God, is the God of gods, the LORD of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who has no favorites, accepts no bribes;
18 C'est lui qui fait droit à l'orphelin et à la veuve, et il aime l'étranger, auquel il donne pain etvêtement.	18 who executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and befriends the alien, feeding and clothing him.
19 (Aimez l'étranger car au pays d'Egypte vous fûtes des étrangers.)	19 So you too must befriend the alien, for you were once aliens yourselves in the land of Egypt.
20 C'est Yahvé ton Dieu que tu craindras et serviras, t'attachant à lui et jurant par son nom.	20 The LORD, your God, shall you fear, and him shall you serve; hold fast to him and swear by his name.
21 C'est lui que tu dois louer et c'est lui ton Dieu: il a accompli pour toi ces choses grandes etredoutables que tes yeux ont vues;	21 He is your glory, he, your God, who has done for you those great and terrible things which your own eyes have seen.
22 et, alors que tes pères n'étaient que 70 quand ils sont descendus en Egypte, Yahvé ton Dieut'a rendu aussi nombreux à présent que les étoiles des cieux.	22 Your ancestors went down to Egypt seventy strong, and now the LORD, your God, has made you as numerous as the stars of the sky.
