1 But behold there arose a sedition in Ephraim. And passing towards the north, they said to Jephte: When thou wentest to fight against the children of Ammon, why wouldst thou not call us, that we might go with thee? Therefore we will burn thy house.	1 Levantou-se uma sedição na tribo de Efraim.(Os desta tribo), passando para o setentrião, disseram a Jefté: por que razão, indo tu combater contra os filhos do Amon, não quiseste chamar-nos para irmos contigo? Por isso queimaremos a tua casa.
2 And he answered them: I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon: and I called you to assist me, and you would not do it.	2 Ele respondeu-lhes: Eu e o meu povo estávamos metidos numa grande contenda com os filhos de Amon; chamei-vos, para que mo désseis socorro, e vós não o quisestes fazer.
3 And when I saw this, I put my life in my own hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the Lord delivered them into my hands. What have I deserved, that you should rise up to fight against me?	3 Vendo isto, arrisquei a minha vida e marchei contra os filhos de Amon, e o Senhor entregou-os nas minhas mãos. Em que é que eu mereci que vos levanteis contra mim a fazer-me guerra?
4 Then calling to him all the men of Galaad, he fought against Ephraim: and the men of Galaad defeated Ephraim, because he had said: Galaad is a fugitive of Ephraim, and dwelleth in the midst of Ephraim and Manasses.	4 Convocados todos os homens de Galaad, combateu contra Efraim, e os homens de Galaad derrotaram Efraim, porque este tinha dito: Galaad é um fugitivo de Efraim, e habita entre Efraim e Manassés.
5 And the Galaadites secured the fords of the Jordan, by which Ephraim was to return. And when any one of the number of Ephraim came thither in the flight, and said: I beseech you let me pass: the Galaadites said to him: Art thou not an Ephraimite? If he said: I am not:	5 Os Galaaditas ocuparam os vaus do Jordão, por onde Efraim havia de voltar. Quando algum fugitivo de Efraim chegava a eles e dizia: Peço-vos que me deixeis passar — os Galaaditas respondiam-lhe: Acaso és tu efraimita? Se ele respondesse: Não sou —
6 They asked him: Say then, Scibboleth, which is interpreted, An ear of corn. But he answered, Sibboleth, not being able to express an ear of corn by the same letter. Then presently they took him and killed him in the very passage of the Jordan. And there fell at that time of Ephraim two and forty thousand.	6 replicavam-Ihe: Dize pois Schibolet, que significa espiga. Ele pronunciava Sibolet, não podendo exprimir a palavra espiga com as mesmas letras. Imediatamente preso, degolavam-no na mesma passagem do Jordão. Naquele tempo morreram quarenta e dois mil homens de Efraim.
7 And Jephte the Galaadite judged Israel six years: and he died, and was buried in his city of Galaad.	7 Jefté Galaadita julgou Israel durante seis anos; depois morreu, e foi sepultado na sua cidade de Galaad.
8 After him Abesan of Bethlehem judged Israel:	8 Depois deste, foi juiz de lsrael Abesan, de Belém,
9 He had thirty sons, and as many daughters, whom he sent abroad, and gave to husbands, and took wives for his sons of the same number, bringing them into his house. And he judged Israel seven years:	9 O qual teve trinta filhos, e outras tantas filhas, que casou fora de sua casa; fez vir de fora e recebeu em sua casa igual número de mulheres como esposas dos seus filhos. Julgou Israel durante sete anos.
10 And he died, and was buried in Bethlehem.	10 Morreu, e foi sepultado em Belém.
11 To him succeeded Ahialon a Zahnlonite: and he judged Israel ten years:	11 Sucedeu-lhe Aialon Zabulonita, que julgou Israel durante dez anos.
12 And he died, and was buried in ZahnIon.	12 Morreu, e foi sepultado em Zabulon.
13 After him Abdon, the son of Illel, a Pharathonite, judged Israel:	13 Depois deste, foi juiz de Israel Abdon, filho de Del, de Faraton,
14 And he had forty sons, and of them thirty grandsons, mounted upon seventy ass colts, and he judged Israel eight years:	14 que teve quarenta filhos e trinta netos, que montavam em setenta jumentos, e julgou Israel durante oito anos.
15 And he died, and was buried in Pharathon in the land of Ephraim, in the mount of Amalech.	15 Morreu, e foi sepultado em Faraton, na terra de Efraim, sobre o monte de Amalec.
