And after the tumult was ceased, Paul calling to him the disciples, and exhorting them, took his leave, and set forward to go into Macedonia.1 Als sich der Aufruhr gelegt hatte, rief Paulus die Jünger zu sich, gab ihnen zum Abschied Ermahnungen und machte sich auf den Weg nach Mazedonien.
And when he had gone over those parts, and had exhorted them with many words, he came into Greece;2 Nachdem er diese Gegenden durchzogen und die Jünger mit vielen Worten ermahnt hatte, kam er nach Griechenland;
Where, when he had spent three months, the Jews laid wait for him, as he was about to sail into Syria; so he took a resolution to return through Macedonia.3 dort blieb er drei Monate. Als er sich nach Syrien einschiffen wollte, wurde gegen ihn von den Juden ein Anschlag geplant, und er faßte den Entschluß, den Rückweg durch Mazedonien zu nehmen.
And there accompanied him Sopater the son of Pyrrhus, of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus, and Secundus, and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus.4 Seine Begleiter bis Asia waren Sopatrus, der Sohn des Pyrrhus von Beröa, die Thessalonicher Aristarchus und Sekundus, ferner Gajus aus Derbe und Timotheus, und aus Asia Tychikus und Trophimus;
These going before, stayed for us at Troas.5 diese reisten voraus und warteten auf uns in Troas.
But we sailed from Philippi after the days of the Azymes, and came to them to Troas in five days, where we abode seven days.6 Wir aber segelten nach den Tagen der Ungesäuerten Brote von Philippi ab und kamen in fünf Tagen zu ihnen nach Troas, wo wir sieben Tage blieben.
And on the first day of the week, when we were assembled to break bread, Paul discoursed with them, being to depart on the morrow: and he continued his speech until midnight.7 Als wir am ersten Tag der Woche zum Brotbrechen versammelt waren, sprach Paulus zu ihnen; da er am folgenden Tage abreisen wollte, dehnte er seine Rede bis Mitternacht aus.
And there were a great number of lamps in the upper chamber where we were assembled.8 Es brannten viele Lampen im Obergemach, wo wir versammelt waren.
And a certain young man named Eutychus, sitting on the window, being oppressed with a deep sleep, (as Paul was long preaching,) by occasion of his sleep fell from the third loft down, and was taken up dead.9 Ein junger Mann namens Eutychus saß am Fenster, sank, als Paulus lange redete, in tiefen Schlaf und fiel, vom Schlaf überwältigt, vom dritten Stockwerk hinab und wurde als Toter aufgehoben.
To whom, when Paul had gone down, he laid himself upon him, and embracing him, said: Be not troubled, for his soul is in him.10 Paulus ging zu ihm hinab, warf sich über ihn, umfaßte ihn und sagte: "Beunruhigt euch nicht; denn seine Seele ist in ihm."
Then going up, and breaking bread and tasting, and having talked a long time to them, until daylight, so he departed.11 Er stieg wieder hinauf, brach das Brot, aß davon und redete noch ziemlich lange bis zum Anbruch des Tages und reiste sodann ab.
And they brought the youth alive, and were not a little comforted.12 Den jungen Mann aber führten sie lebend von dannen und wurden hierdurch nicht wenig getröstet.
But we, going aboard the ship, sailed to Assos, being there to take in Paul; for so he had appointed, himself purposing to travel by land.13 Wir aber gingen voraus auf das Schiff und fuhren nach Assos, wo wir Paulus aufnehmen wollten; denn so hatte er es angeordnet, da er selbst zu Fuß wandern wollte.
And when he had met with us at Assos, we took him in, and came to Mitylene.14 Als er nun in Assos zu uns kam, nahmen wir ihn auf und gelangten nach Mitylene,
And sailing thence, the day following we came over against Chios; and the next day we arrived at Samos; and the day following we came to Miletus.15 und von da fuhren wir weiter und erreichten am folgenden Tag die Höhe von Chios, legten am anderen Tag in Samos an [, blieben in Trogylium] und kamen tags darauf nach Milet.
For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, lest he should be stayed any time in Asia. For he hasted, if it were possible for him, to keep the day of Pentecost at Jerusalem.16 Paulus hatte beschlossen, an Ephesus vorbeizufahren, um in Asia nicht aufgehalten zu werden; denn er eilte, um womöglich am Pfingstfest in Jerusalem zu sein.
And sending from Miletus to Ephesus, he called the ancients of the church.17 Von Milet aus sandte er nach Ephesus und berief die Presbyter der Gemeinde zu sich.
And when they were come to him, and were together, he said to them: You know from the first day that I came into Asia, in what manner I have been with you, for all the time,18 Als sie bei ihm eingetroffen waren, sagte er zu ihnen: "Ihr wißt, wie ich vom ersten Tag an, da ich nach Asia kam, die ganze Zeit bei euch war
Serving the Lord with all humility, and with tears, and temptations which befell me by the conspiracies of the Jews;19 als einer, der dem Herrn diente in aller Demut, unter Tränen und Prüfungen, wie sie mir widerfuhren durch die Nachstellungen der Juden.
How I have kept back nothing that was profitable to you, but have preached it to you, and taught you publicly, and from house to house,20 Nichts von dem, was nützlich war, habe ich euch vorenthalten, sondern sowohl öffentlich als auch in den einzelnen Häusern habe ich gepredigt und gelehrt.
Testifying both to Jews and Gentiles penance towards God, and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.21 Vor Juden und Hellenen habe ich Zeugnis abgelegt für die Bekehrung zu Gott und den Glauben an unseren Herrn Jesus.
And now, behold, being bound in the spirit, I go to Jerusalem: not knowing the things which shall befall me there:22 Und nun seht, als ein Gefangener im Geiste gehe ich nach Jerusalem, ohne zu wissen, was mir dort begegnen wird.
Save that the Holy Ghost in every city witnesseth to me, saying: That bands and afflictions wait for me at Jerusalem.23 Nur das bezeugt mir der Heilige Geist von Stadt zu Stadt, daß Fesseln und Drangsale meiner warten.
But I fear none of these things, neither do I count my life more precious than myself, so that I may consummate my course and the ministry of the word which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.24 Doch [nichts von alledem fürchte ich, und] ich halte in keiner Hinsicht das Leben wertvoll für mich, wenn ich nur meinen Lauf vollende und die Aufgabe erfülle, die ich empfangen habe vom Herrn Jesus, nämlich Zeugnis zu geben für das Evangelium von der Gnade Gottes.
And now behold, I know that all you, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.25 Und nun seht, ich weiß, daß ihr alle, unter denen ich als Künder des Reiches [Gottes] gewandelt bin, mein Angesicht nicht mehr sehen werdet.
Wherefore I take you to witness this day, that I am clear from the blood of all men;26 Darum beteuere ich vor euch am heutigen Tag: Ich bin schuldlos am Blute aller;
For I have not spared to declare unto you all the counsel of God.27 denn ohne etwas vorzuenthalten, habe ich euch den ganzen Ratschluß Gottes verkündet.
Take heed to yourselves, and to the whole flock, wherein the Holy Ghost hath placed you bishops, to rule the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.28 Tragt nun Sorge für euch und für die gesamte Herde, in der euch der Heilige Geist zu Bischöfen bestellt hat, die Gemeinde Gottes zu leiten, die er sich erworben hat mit seinem eigenen Blut.
I know that, after my departure, ravening wolves will enter in among you, not sparing the flock.29 Ich weiß, es werden nach meinem Weggang reißende Wölfe bei euch eindringen und die Herde nicht schonen,
And of your own selves shall arise men speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.30 und aus eurer eigenen Mitte werden Männer aufstehen und Verkehrtes reden, um die Jünger auf ihre Seite zu ziehen.
Therefore watch, keeping in memory, that for three years I ceased not, with tears to admonish every one of you night and day.31 Seid also wachsam und denkt daran, wie ich drei Jahre lang Tag und Nacht nicht aufgehört habe, einen jeden einzelnen unter Tränen zu ermahnen.
And now I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, who is able to build up, and to give an inheritance among all the sanctified.32 Und nun empfehle ich euch Gott und dem Worte seiner Gnade, das mächtig ist! aufzubauen und das Erbe zu verleihen unter allen Geheiligten.
I have not coveted any man's silver, gold, or apparel, as33 Weder Silber noch Gold noch Kleider habe ich von jemand beansprucht;
You yourselves know: for such things as were needful for me and them that are with me, these hands have furnished.34 ihr wißt es selbst, für meinen Unterhalt und für meine Gefährten dienten diese Hände.
I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring you ought to support the weak, and to remember the word of the Lord Jesus, how he said: It is a more blessed thing to give, rather than to receive.35 In jeder Weise habe ich euch gezeigt, daß man so arbeitend sich um die Schwachen kümmern soll, eingedenk der Worte des Herrn Jesus, der selber sagte: "Geben ist seliger als Nehmen"."
And when he had said these things, kneeling down, he prayed with them all.36 Nach diesen Worten kniete er nieder und betete mit ihnen allen.
And there was much weeping among them all; and falling on the neck of Paul, they kissed him,37 Da brachen alle in lautes Weinen aus, fielen Paulus um den Hals und küßten ihn,
Being grieved most of all for the word which he had said, that they should see his face no more. And they brought him on his way to the ship.38 am meisten schmerzlich getroffen von dem Wort, mit dem er sagte, sie würden sein Angesicht nicht mehr sehen. Sie gaben ihm bis zum Schiff das Geleit.
