Deuteronomy 25

DOUAI-RHEIMS	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 If there be a controversy between men, and they call upon the judges: they shall give the prize of justice to him whom they perceive to be just: and him whom they find to be wicked, they shall condemn of wickedness.	1 Si entre dos hombres se produce un litigio y ellos acuden a la justicia, se los juzgará, y se absolverá al inocente y se condenará al culpable.
2 And if they see that the offender be worthy of stripes: they shall lay him down, and shall cause him to be beaten before them. According to the measure of the sin shall the measure also of the stripes be:	2 Si este último merece ser apaleado, el juez lo obligará a tenderse en el suelo y lo hará castigar en su presencia, con un número de golpes proporcionados a su culpa.
3 Yet so, that they exceed not the number of forty: lest thy brother depart shamefully torn before thy eyes.	3 Podrá infligirle hasta cuarenta golpes, pero no más, no sea que castigándolo más de la cuenta, el castigo resulte excesivo y tu hermano quede envilecido a tus ojos.
4 Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out thy corn on the floor.	4 No pondrás bozal al buey que trilla.
5 When brethren dwell together, and one of them dieth without children, the wife of the deceased shall not marry to another: but his brother shall take her, and raise up seed for his brother:	5 Si varios hermanos viven juntos y uno de ellos muere sin tener hijos, la mujer del difunto no se casará con un extraño. El hermano del difunto se unirá con ella y cumplirá con su deber de cuñado.
6 And the first son he shall have of her he shall call by his name, that his name be not abolished out of Israel.	6 El primogénito que de ella nazca perpetuará el nombre del hermano difunto, y así su nombre no se borrará de Israel.
7 But if he will not take his brother's wife, who by law belongeth to him, the woman shall go to the gate of the city, and call upon the ancients, and say: My husband's brother refuseth to raise up his brother's name in Israel: and will not take me to wife.	7 Pero si el cuñado se niega a tomarla por esposa, ella subirá a la puerta de la ciudad donde están los ancianos, y dirá: «Mi cuñado se niega a perpetuar en Israel el nombre de su hermano; y no está dispuesto a cumplir en mi favor sus deberes de cuñado».
8 And they shall cause him to be sent for forthwith, and shall ask him. If he answer: I will not take her to wife:	8 Entonces los ancianos de su ciudad llamarán a ese hombre y le pedirán una explicación. Si él persiste en su negativa, diciendo: «No quiero casarme con ella»,
9 The woman shall come to him before the ancients, and shall take off his shoe from his foot, and spit in his face, and say: So shall it be done to the man that will not build up his brother's house:	9 su cuñada se acercará a él en presencia de los ancianos, le quitará la sandalia del pie, lo escupirá en la cara y le dirá: «Así se debe obrar con el hombre que no edifica la casa de su hermano».
10 And his name shall be called in Israel, the house of the unshod.	10 Y en adelante, se lo apodará en Israel: «Casa del descalzo».
11 If two men have words together, and one begin to fight against the other, and the other's wife willing to deliver her husband out of the hand of the stronger, shall put forth her hand, and take him by the secrets,	11 Si unos hombres se pelean, y la mujer de uno de ellos, para librar a su marido de los golpes del otro, extiende la mano y lo toma por las partes genitales,
12 Thou shalt cut off her hand, neither shalt thou be moved with any pity in her regard.	12 deberás cortarle la mano sin tenerle compasión.
13 Thou shalt not have divers weights in thy bag, a greater and a less:	13 No tendrás en tu bolsa dos pesas, una liviana y otra pesada.
14 Neither shall there be in thy house a greater bushel and a less.	14 No tendrás en tu casa dos medidas, una grande y otra pequeña.
15 Thou shalt have a just and a true weight, and thy bushel shall be equal and true: that thou mayest live a long time upon the land which the Lord thy God shall give thee.	15 Deberás tener una pesa exacta y justa, y también una medida exacta y justa, para gozar de una larga vida en el suelo que El Señor, tu Dios, te da.
16 For the Lord thy God abhorreth him that doth these things, and he hateth all injustice.	16 Porque él considera abominable a que procede de esa manera, a cualquiera que comete una injusticia.
17 Remember what Amalec did to thee in the way when thou camest out of Egypt:	17 Recuerda lo que te hizo Amalec cuando ustedes iban por el camino, después que salieron de Egipto:
18 How he met thee: and slew the hindmost of the army, who sat down, being weary, when thou wast spent with hunger and labour, and he feared not God.	18 cómo te salió el paso y atacó por la espalda a todos los que se habían quedado a la retaguardia, agotados por el cansancio. Entonces tú estabas fatigado y sin fuerzas, pero él no tuvo temor de Dios.
19 Therefore when the Lord thy God shall give thee rest, and shall have subdued all the nations round about in the land which he hath promised thee: thou shalt blot out his name from under heaven. See thou forget it not.	19 Por eso, cuando el Señor, tu Dios, te libre definitivamente de todos los enemigos que están a tu alrededor, en la tierra que él te dará en herencia, borrarás de todas partes el recuerdo de Amalec. ¡No lo olvides!
