DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
And he said to his disciples: It is impossible that scandals should not come: but woe to him through whom they come.1 He said to his disciples, "Things that cause sin will inevitably occur, but woe to the person through whom they occur.
It were better for him, that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should scandalize one of these little ones.2 It would be better for him if a millstone were put around his neck and he be thrown into the sea than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin.
Take heed to yourselves. If thy brother sin against thee, reprove him: and if he do penance, forgive him.3 Be on your guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him.
And if he sin against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day be converted unto thee, saying, I repent; forgive him.4 And if he wrongs you seven times in one day and returns to you seven times saying, 'I am sorry,' you should forgive him."
And the apostles said to the Lord: Increase our faith.5 And the apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith."
And the Lord said: If you had faith like to a grain of mustard seed, you might say to this mulberry tree, Be thou rooted up, and be thou transplanted into the sea: and it would obey you.6 The Lord replied, "If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to (this) mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it would obey you.
But which of you having a servant ploughing, or feeding cattle, will say to him, when he is come from the field: Immediately go, sit down to meat:7 "Who among you would say to your servant who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, 'Come here immediately and take your place at table'?
And will not rather say to him: Make ready my supper, and gird thyself, and serve me, whilst I eat and drink, and afterwards thou shalt eat and drink?8 Would he not rather say to him, 'Prepare something for me to eat. Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink. You may eat and drink when I am finished'?
Doth he thank that servant, for doing the things which he commanded him?9 Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded?
I think not. So you also, when you shall have done all these things that are commanded you, say: We are unprofitable servants; we have done that which we ought to do.10 So should it be with you. When you have done all you have been commanded, say, 'We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.'"
And it came to pass, as he was going to Jerusalem, he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.11 As he continued his journey to Jerusalem, he traveled through Samaria and Galilee.
And as he entered into a certain town, there met him ten men that were lepers, who stood afar off;12 As he was entering a village, ten lepers met (him). They stood at a distance from him
And lifted up their voice, saying: Jesus, master, have mercy on us.13 and raised their voice, saying, "Jesus, Master! Have pity on us!"
Whom when he saw, he said: Go, shew yourselves to the priests. And it came to pass, as they went, they were made clean.14 And when he saw them, he said, "Go show yourselves to the priests." As they were going they were cleansed.
And one of them, when he saw that he was made clean, went back, with a loud voice glorifying God.15 And one of them, realizing he had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud voice;
And he fell on his face before his feet, giving thanks: and this was a Samaritan.16 and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. He was a Samaritan.
And Jesus answering, said, Were not ten made clean? and where are the nine?17 Jesus said in reply, "Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine?
There is no one found to return and give glory to God, but this stranger.18 Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?"
And he said to him: Arise, go thy way; for thy faith hath made thee whole.19 Then he said to him, "Stand up and go; your faith has saved you."
And being asked by the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come? he answered them, and said: The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:20 Asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he said in reply, "The coming of the kingdom of God cannot be observed,
Neither shall they say: Behold here, or behold there. For lo, the kingdom of God is within you.21 and no one will announce, 'Look, here it is,' or, 'There it is.' For behold, the kingdom of God is among you."
And he said to his disciples: The days will come, when you shall desire to see one day of the Son of man; and you shall not see it.22 Then he said to his disciples, "The days will come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it.
And they will say to you: See here, and see there. Go ye not after, nor follow them:23 There will be those who will say to you, 'Look, there he is,' (or) 'Look, here he is.' Do not go off, do not run in pursuit.
For as the lightening that lighteneth from under heaven, shineth unto the parts that are under heaven, so shall the Son of man be in his day.24 For just as lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be (in his day).
But first he must suffer many things, and be rejected by this generation.25 But first he must suffer greatly and be rejected by this generation.
And as it came to pass in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.26 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man;
They did eat and drink, they married wives, and were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark: and the flood came and destroyed them all.27 they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage up to the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.
Likewise as it came to pass, in the days of Lot: they did eat and drink, they bought and sold, they planted and built.28 Similarly, as it was in the days of Lot: they were eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building;
And in the day that Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.29 on the day when Lot left Sodom, fire and brimstone rained from the sky to destroy them all.
Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man shall be revealed.30 So it will be on the day the Son of Man is revealed.
In that hour, he that shall be on the housetop, and his goods in the house, let him not go down to take them away: and he that shall be in the field, in like manner, let him not return back.31 On that day, a person who is on the housetop and whose belongings are in the house must not go down to get them, and likewise a person in the field must not return to what was left behind.
Remember Lot's wife.32 Remember the wife of Lot.
Whosoever shall seek to save his life, shall lose it: and whosoever shall lose it, shall preserve it.33 Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will save it.
I say to you: in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.34 I tell you, on that night there will be two people in one bed; one will be taken, the other left.
Two women shall be grinding together: the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left: two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be keft.35 And there will be two women grinding meal together; one will be taken, the other left."
They answering, say to him: Where, Lord?36
Who said to them: Wheresoever the body shall be, thither will the eagles also be gathered together.37 They said to him in reply, "Where, Lord?" He said to them, "Where the body is, there also the vultures will gather."
