1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he passed from thence, to teach and preach in their cities.	1 Y sucedió que, cuando acabó Jesús de dar instrucciones a sus doce discípulos, partió de allí para enseñar y predicar en sus ciudades.
2 Now when John had heard in prison the works of Christ: sending two of his disciples he said to him:	2 Juan, que en la cárcel había oído hablar de las obras de Cristo, envió a sus discípulos a decirle:
3 Art thou he that art to come, or look we for another?	3 «¿Eres tú el que ha de venir, o debemos esperar a otro?»
4 And Jesus making answer said to them: Go and relate to John what you have heard and seen.	4 Jesús les respondió: «Id y contad a Juan lo que oís y veis:
5 The blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead rise again, the poor have the gospel preached to them.	5 los ciegos ven y los cojos andan, los leprosos quedan limpios y los sordos oyen, los muertos resucitan y se anuncia a los pobres la Buena Nueva;
6 And blessed is he that shall not be scandalized in me.	6 ¡y dichoso aquel que no halle escándalo en mí!»
7 And when they went their way, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: What went you out into the desert to see? a reed shaken with the wind?	7 Cuando éstos se marchaban, se puso Jesús a hablar de Juan a la gente: «¿Qué salisteis a ver en el desierto? ¿Una caña agitada por el viento?
8 But what went you out to see? a man clothed in soft garments? Behold they that are clothed in soft garments, are in the houses of kings.	8 ¿Qué salisteis a ver, si no? ¿Un hombre elegantemente vestido? ¡No! Los que visten con elegancia están en los palacios de los reyes.
9 But what went you out to see? a prophet? yea I tell you, and more than a prophet.	9 Entonces ¿a qué salisteis? ¿A ver un profeta? Sí, os digo, y más que un profeta.
10 For this is he of whom it is written: Behold I send my angel before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.	10 Este es de quien está escrito: He aquí que yo envío mi mensajero delante de ti, que preparará por delante tu camino.
11 Amen I say to you, there hath not risen among them that are born of women a greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is the lesser in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.	11 «En verdad os digo que no ha surgido entre los nacidos de mujer uno mayor que Juan el Bautista; sin embargo, el más pequeño en el Reino de los Cielos es mayor que él.
12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent bear it away.	12 Desde los días de Juan el Bautista hasta ahora, el Reino de los Cielos sufre violencia, y los violentos lo arrebatan.
13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John:	13 Pues todos los profetas, lo mismo que la Ley, hasta Juan profetizaron.
14 And if you will receive it, he is Elias that is to come.	14 Y, si queréis admitirlo, él es Elías, el que iba a venir.
15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.	15 El que tenga oídos, que oiga.
16 But whereunto shall I esteem this generation to be like? It is like to children sitting in the market place.	16 «¿Pero, con quién compararé a esta generación? Se parece a los chiquillos que, sentados en las plazas, se gritan unos a otros diciendo:
17 Who crying to their companions say: We have piped to you, and you have not danced: we have lamented, and you have not mourned.	17 “Os hemos tocado la flauta, y no habéis bailado, os hemos entonado endechas, y no os habéis lamentado.”
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking; and they say: He hath a devil.	18 Porque vino Juan, que ni comía ni bebía, y dicen: “Demonio tiene.”
19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say: Behold a man that is a glutton and a wine drinker, a friend of publicans and sinners. And wisdom is justified by her children.	19 Vino el Hijo del hombre, que come y bebe, y dicen: “Ahí tenéis un comilón y un borracho, amigo de publicanos y pecadores.” Y la Sabiduría se ha acreditado por sus obras».
20 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein were done the most of his miracles, for that they had not done penance.	20 Entonces se puso a maldecir a las ciudades en las que se habían realizado la mayoría de sus milagros, porque no se habían convertido:
21 Woe to thee, Corozain, woe to thee, Bethsaida: for if in Tyre and Sidon had been wrought the miracles that have been wrought in you, they had long ago done penance in sackcloth and ashes.	21 «¡Ay de ti, Corazín! ¡Ay de ti, Betsaida! Porque si en Tiro y en Sidón se hubieran hecho los milagros que se han hecho en vosotras, tiempo ha que en sayal y ceniza se habrían convertido.
22 But I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment, than for you.	22 Por eso os digo que el día del Juicio habrá menos rigor para Tiro y Sidón que para vosotras.
23 And thou Capharnaum, shalt thou be exalted up to heaven? thou shalt go down even unto hell. For if in Sodom had been wrought the miracles that have been wrought in thee, perhaps it had remained unto this day.	23 Y tú, Cafarnaúm, ¿hasta el cielo te vas a encumbrar? ¡Hasta el Hades te hundirás! Porque si en Sodoma se hubieran hecho los milagros que se han hecho en ti, aún subsistiría el día de hoy.
24 But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.	24 Por eso os digo que el día del Juicio habrá menos rigor para la tierra de Sodoma que para ti».
25 At that time Jesus answered and said: I confess to thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to the little ones.	25 En aquel tiempo, tomando Jesús la palabra, dijo: «Yo te bendigo, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque has ocultado estas cosas a sabios e inteligentes, y se las has revelado a pequeños.
26 Yea, Father; for so hath it seemed good in thy sight.	26 Sí, Padre, pues tal ha sido tu beneplácito.
27 All things are delivered to me by my Father. And no one knoweth the Son, but the Father: neither doth any one know the Father, but the Son, and he to whom it shall please the Son to reveal him.	27 Todo me ha sido entregado por mi Padre, y nadie conoce bien al Hijo sino el Padre, ni al Padre le conoce bien nadie sino el Hijo, y aquel a quien el Hijo se lo quiera revelar.
28 Come to me, all you that labour, and are burdened, and I will refresh you.	28 «Venid a mí todos los que estáis fatigados y sobrecargados, y yo os daré descanso.
29 Take up my yoke upon you, and learn of me, because I am meek, and humble of heart: and you shall find rest to your souls.	29 Tomad sobre vosotros mi yugo, y aprended de mí, que soy manso y humilde de corazón; y hallaréis descanso para vuestras almas.
30 For my yoke is sweet and my burden light.	30 Porque mi yugo es suave y mi carga ligera».
