A PRAYER OF HABACUC THE PROPHET FOR IGNORANCES.1 Oración del profeta Habacuc, a modo de lamentación.
O Lord, I have heard thy hearing, and was afraid. O Lord, thy work, in the midst of the years bring it to life: In the midst of the years thou shalt make it known: when thou art angry, thou wilt remember mercy.2 Señor, he oído tu fama; | me ha impresionado tu obra. | En medio de los años, realízala; | en medio de los años, manifiéstala; | en el terremoto, acuérdate de la misericordia.
God will come from the south, and the holy one from mount Pharan: His glory covered the heavens, and the earth is full of his praise.3 El Señor viene de Temán; | el Santo, del monte Farán; | su resplandor eclipsa el cielo, | la tierra se llena de su alabanza;
His brightness shall be as the light; horns are in his hands: There is his strength hid:4 su brillo es como el día, | su mano destella velando su poder. | Ahí se esconde su poder.
Death shall go before his face. And the devil shall go forth before his feet.5 La Peste lo precede, lo sigue la Fiebre;
He stood and measured the earth. He beheld, and melted the nations: and the ancient mountains were crushed to pieces. The hills of the world were bowed down by the journeys of his eternity.6 se para y sacude la tierra, | mira y desbarata a los pueblos; | se desmoronan las montañas antiguas, | se encogen las colinas eternas, | eternos son sus caminos.
I saw the tents of Ethiopia for their iniquity, the curtains of the land of Madian shall be troubled.7 He visto demolidas las tiendas de Cusán, | tiemblan los refugios de la tierra de Madián.
Wast thou angry, O Lord, with the rivers? or was thy wrath upon the rivers? or thy indignation in the sea? Who will ride upon thy horses: and thy chariots are salvation.8 ¿Se inflama tu ira, Señor, contra los ríos, | contra los ríos tu cólera, | contra el mar tu furor, | cuando cabalgas en tus caballos, | en tus carros victoriosos?
Thou wilt surely take up thy bow: according to the oaths which thou hast spoken to the tribes. Thou wilt divide the rivers of the earth.9 Has desnudado tu arco, | llenas de flechas tu aljaba, | con torrentes hiendes la tierra.
The mountains saw thee, and were grieved: the great body of waters passed away. The deep put forth its voice: the deep lifted up its hands.10 Te ven las montañas y tiemblan, | pasa una tromba, brama el océano, | levanta sus brazos en alto.
The sun and the moon stood still in their habitation, in the light of thy arrows, they shall go in the brightness of thy glittering spear.11 El sol y la luna están firmes en su órbita, | a la luz de tus flechas caminan, | al resplandor de las lanzas de tus relámpagos.
In thy anger thou wilt tread the earth under foot: in thy wrath thou wilt astonish the nations.12 Caminas airado por la tierra, | furioso pisoteas a los pueblos;
Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people: for salvation with thy Christ. Thou struckest the head of the house of the wicked: thou hast laid bare his foundation even to the neck.13 sales a salvar a tu pueblo, | a salvar a tu ungido; | aplastas el techo de la casa del malvado, | desnudas sus cimientos hasta la médula.
Thou hast cursed his sceptres, the head of his warriors, them that came out as a whirlwind to scatter me. Their joy was like that of him that devoureth the poor man in secret.14 Con sus flechas atraviesas | la élite de sus tropas, | que se agitan para descuartizarme, | como si se tratase de agarrar | a un pobre en una trampa.
Thou madest a way in the sea for thy horses, in the mud of many waters.15 Pisas por el mar con tus caballos, | revolviendo las aguas del océano.
I have heard and my bowels were troubled: my lips trembled at the voice. Let rottenness enter into my bones, and swarm under me. That I may rest in the day of tribulation: that I may go up to our people that are girded.16 Lo escuché y temblaron mis entrañas, | al oírlo se estremecieron mis labios; | me entró un escalofrío por los huesos, | vacilaban mis piernas al andar; | gimo ante el día de la angustia | que sobreviene al pueblo que nos oprime.
For the fig tree shall not blossom: and there shall be no spring in the vines. The labour of the olive tree shall fail: and the fields shall yield no food: the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls.17 Aunque la higuera no echa yemas | y las viñas no tienen fruto, | aunque el olivo olvida su aceituna | y los campos no dan cosechas, | aunque se acaban las ovejas del redil | y no quedan vacas en el establo,
But I will rejoice in the Lord: and I will joy in God my Jesus.18 yo exultaré con el Señor, | me gloriaré en Dios, mi salvador.
The Lord God is my strength: and he will make my feet like the feet of harts: and he the conqueror will lead me upon my high places singing psalms.19 El Señor soberano es mi fuerza, | él me da piernas de gacela, | y me hace caminar por las alturas. Al director del coro, con cítaras.
