1 Woe to thee, O city of blood, all full of lies and violence: rapine shall not depart from thee.	1 GUAI alla città di sangue, che è tutta piena di menzogna, e di storsione! dalla quale il predare non si diparte giammai.
2 The noise of the whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the neighing horse, and of the running chariot, and of the horsemen coming up,	2 Suon di sferza, e fracasso di ruote, e cavalli scalpitanti, e carri saltellanti;
3 And of the shining sword, and of the glittering spear, and of a multitude slain, and of a grievous destruction: and there is no end of carcasses, and they shall fall down on their dead bodies.	3 cavalieri balzanti, fiammeggiar di spade, e folgorar di lance, e moltitudine di uccisi, e gran numero di corpi morti, e cadaveri senza fine; l’uomo s’intopperà ne’ lor corpi morti.
4 Because of the multitude of the fornications of the harlot that was beautiful and agreeable, and that made use of witchcraft, that sold nations through her fornications, and families through her witchcrafts.	4 Per la moltitudine delle fornicazioni della graziosa meretrice, maestra d’incantesimi; che fa mercatanzia delle genti per le sue fornicazioni, e delle nazioni per li suoi incantesimi,
5 Behold I come against thee, saith the Lord of hosts: and I will discover thy shame to thy face, and will shew thy nakedness to the nations, and thy shame to kingdoms.	5 eccomi a te, dice il Signore degli eserciti; io ti rimboccherò i tuoi lembi in su la faccia, e farò vedere alle genti le tue vergogne, e a’ regni la tua turpitudine.
6 And I will cast abominations upon thee, and will disgrace thee, and will make an example of thee.	6 E ti getterò addosso cose abbominevoli, e ti villaneggerò, e ti ridurrò ad esser come dello sterco.
7 And it shall come to pass that every one that shall see thee, shall flee from thee, and shall say: Ninive is laid waste: who shall bemoan thee? whence shall I seek a comforter for thee?	7 E tutti quelli che ti vedranno fuggiranno lungi da te, e diranno: Ninive è stata guasta; chi si condorrà seco? onde ti cercherei de’ consolatori?
8 Art thou better than the populous Alexandria, that dwelleth among the rivers? waters are round about it: the sea is its riches, the waters are its walls.	8 Vali tu meglio di No, piena di popolo, situata fra i rivi, intorniata d’acque, il cui antimuro era il mare, e le cui mura sorgevano dal mare?
9 Ethiopia and Egypt were the strength thereof, and there is no end: Africa and the Libyans were thy helpers.	9 Cus, ed Egitto, ed altri popoli senza fine, erano la sua forza; que’ di Put, e i Libii erano in tuo aiuto, o No.
10 Yet she also was removed and carried into captivity: her young children were dashed in pieces at the top of every street, and they cast lots upon her nobles, and all her great men were bound in fetters.	10 E pure ella è stata trasportata, è andata in cattività; e pure i suoi piccoli fanciulli sono stati schiacciati in capo d’ogni strada, e si son tratte le sorti sopra i suoi personaggi onorati, e tutti i suoi grandi sono stati incatenati, e messi ne’ ceppi.
11 Therefore thou also shalt be made drunk, and shalt be despised: and thou shalt seek help from the enemy.	11 Anche tu sarai inebbriato, e ti nasconderai; anche tu cercherai qualche luogo forte, da salvarti dal nemico.
12 All thy strong holds shall be like fig trees with their green figs: if they be shaken, they shall fall into the mouth of the eater.	12 Tutte le tue fortezze saranno come fichi, e frutti primaticci; i quali, essendo scossi, caggiono in bocca di chi li vuol mangiare.
13 Behold thy people in the midst of thee are women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open to thy enemies, the fire shall devour thy bars.	13 Ecco, il tuo popolo sarà come tante donne, dentro di te; le porte del tuo paese saranno tutte aperte a’ tuoi nemici; il fuoco consumerà le tue sbarre.
14 Draw thee water for the siege, build up thy bulwarks: go into the clay, and tread, work it and make brick.	14 Attigniti pur dell’acqua per l’assedio, fortifica le tue fortezze, entra nella malta, e intridi l’argilla; rifa’ la fornace da mattoni.
15 There shall the fire devour thee: thou shalt perish by the sword, it shall devour thee like the bruchus: assemble together like the bruchus, make thyself many like the locust.	15 Quivi ti consumerà il fuoco, la spada ti distruggerà; il fuoco ti consumerà, a guisa di bruchi; adunati pure in gran numero, a guisa di bruchi; adunati pure in gran numero, a guisa di locuste.
16 Thou hast multiplied thy merchandises above the stars of heaven: the bruchus hath spread himself and flown away.	16 Tu hai moltiplicati i tuoi mercatanti sopra il numero delle stelle del cielo; il bruco è scorso, e poi se ne è volato via.
17 Thy guards are like the locusts: and thy little ones like the locusts of locusts which swarm on the hedges in the day of cold: the sun arose, and they flew away, and their place was not known where they were.	17 I tuoi coronati son come locuste, e i tuoi capitani son come le maggiori locuste, che si accampano nelle chiusure, in tempo di freddo; e quando il sole è levato, si dileguano, e non si riconosce più il loro luogo, dove erano.
18 Thy shepherds have slumbered, O king of Assyria, thy princes shall be buried: thy people are hid in the mountains, and there is none to gather them together.	18 O re di Assur, i tuoi pastori sono addormentati; i tuoi bravi guerrieri si son ritratti in casa loro; il tuo popolo è disperso su per li monti, e non vi è alcuno che lo raccolga.
19 Thy destruction is not hidden, thy wound is grievous: all that have heard the fame of thee, have clapped their hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?	19 La tua rottura non si può risaldare in modo alcuno; la tua piaga è dolorosa; tutti quelli che udiranno il grido di te si batteranno a palme di te; perciocchè, sopra cui non è del continuo passata la tua malvagità?
