1 And Balaam said to Balac: Build me here seven altars, and prepare as many calves, and the same number of rams.	1 Balaão disse a Balac: Edifica-me aqui sete altares, prepara outros tantos novilhos e um igual número de carneiros.
2 And when he had done according to the word of Balaam, they laid together a calf and a ram upon every altar.	2 Tendo ele feito como Balaão havia dito, puseram juntamente um novilho e um carneiro sobre cada altar.
3 And Balaam said to Balac: Stand a while by thy burnt offering, until I go, to see if perhaps the Lord will meet me, and whatsoever he shall command, I will speak to thee.	3 Balaão disse a Balac: Fica-te um pouco junto do teu holocausto, enquanto eu vou ver se porventura o Senhor vem ao meu encontro, e te direi tudo o que ele me mandar.
4 And when he was gone with speed, God met him. And Balaam speaking to him, said: I have erected seven altars, and have laid on everyone a calf and a ram.	4 (Então Balaão) afastou-se para um monte escavado, e Deus foi ao seu encontro. Balaão disse-lhe: Eu levantei sete altares, e pus um novilho e um carneiro sobre cada um.
5 And the Lord put the word in his mouth, and said: Return to Balac, and thus shalt thou speak.	5 O Senhor pôs a sua palavra na boca de Balaão e disse: Torna para Balac, e dize-lhe isto e isto.
6 Returning he found Balac standing by his burnt offering, with all the princes of the Moabites:	6 Tornando, encontrou Balac em pé junto do seu holocausto, com todos os príncipes dos Moabitas,
7 And taking up his parable, he said: Balac king of the Moabites hath brought me from Aram, from the mountains of the east: Come, said he, and curse Jacob: make haste and detest Israel.	7 e, começando a falar em parábola, disse: De Aram me conduziu Balac, o rei dos Moabitas (me conduziu) dos montes do Oriente. Vem, disse, e amaldiçoa Jacob, apressa-te a execrar Israel.
8 How shall I curse him, whom God hath not cursed? By what means should I detest him, whom the Lord detesteth not?	8 Como amaldiçoarei eu a quem Deus não amaldiçoou? Como detestarei a quem o Senhor não detesta?
9 I shall see him from the tops of the rocks, and shall consider him from the hills. This people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.	9 Eu o vejo do alto dos rochedos e contemplo-o do cume dos outeiros. Este povo habitará só, e não será contado entre as nações.
10 Who can count the dust of Jacob, and know the number of the stock of Israel? Let my soul die the death of the just, and my last end be like to them.	10 Quem poderá contar o pó de Jacob, contar um quarto de Israel? Que eu morra da morte dos justos, e que o meu fim seja semelhante ao deles.
11 And Balac said to Balaam: What is this that thou dost? I sent for thee to curse my enemies: and thou contrariwise blessest them.	11 Balac disse a Balaão: Que é o que tu fazes? Eu chamei-te para amaldiçoares os meus Inimigos, e tu pelo contrário os abençoas.
12 He answered him: Call I speak any thing else but what the Lord commandeth?	12 Ele respondeu-lhe: Porventura posso eu dizer outra coisa, senão o que o Senhor ordenou.
13 Balac therefore said: Come with me to another place from whence thou mayest see part of Israel, and canst not see them all: curse them from thence.	13 Disse-lhe Balac: Vem comigo a outro lugar, donde vejas Israel, donde vejas só uma extremidade, e amaldiçoa-o daí.
14 And when he had brought him to a high place, upon the top of mount Phasga, Balaam built seven altars, and laying on every one a calf and a ram,	14 Tendo-o levado a um lugar elevado no cimo do monte Fasga, Balaão levantou (ali) sete altares, e, postos sobre cada altar um novilho e um carneiro,
15 He said to Balac: Stand here by thy burnt offering while I go to meet him.	15 disse a Balac: Deixa-te aqui ficar junto do teu holocausto, enquanto eu vou ao encontro (do Senhor).
16 And when the Lord had met him, and had put the word in his mouth, he said: Return to Balac, and thus shalt thou say to him.	16 O Senhor, tendo ido ao seu encontro e tendo-lhe posto a palavra na boca, disse-lhe: Torna para Balac, e dize-lhe isto (que te vou dizer).
17 Returning he found him standing by his burnt sacrifice, and the princes of the Moabites with him. And Balac said to him: What hath the Lord spoken?	17 Tornando, encontrou-o em pé junto do seu holocausto, e os príncipes dos Moabitas com ele. Balac perguntou-lhe: Que te disse o Senhor?
18 But he taking up his parable, said: Stand, O Balac, and give ear: hear, thou son of Sephor:	18 Ele, continuando com a sua parábola, disse: Levanta-te, Balac e escuta: ouve, ó filho de Sefor.
19 God is not a man, that he should lie, nor as the son of man, that he should be changed. Hath he said then, and will he not do? hath he spoken, and will he not fulfil?	19 Deus não é como o homem, capaz de mentir, nem como o filho do homem, sujeito a mudanças. Ele disse uma coisa, e não a fará? Falou, e não cumprirá a sua palavra?
20 I was brought to bless, the blessing I am not able to hinder.	20 Eu fui trazido para abençoar, ele abençoou e eu não posso impedir a bênção.
21 There is no idol in Jacob, neither is there an image god to be seen in Israel. The Lord his God is with him, and the sound of the victory of the king in him.	21 Em Jacob não há iniquidade, nem em Israel injustiça. Com ele está o Senhor Seu Deus, nele se ouve a aclamação dum rei.
22 God hath brought him out of Egypt, whose strength is like to the rhinoceros.	22 Deus tirou-o do Egipto: a sua fortaleza é semelhante à do rinoceronte.
23 There is no soothsaying in Jacob, nor divination in Israel. In their times it shall be told to Jacob and to Israel what God hath wrought.	23 Não há magia em Jacob, nem adivinhações em Israel. A seu tempo se dirá a Jacob e a Israel o que Deus fez.
24 Behold the people shall rise up as a lioness, and shall lift itself up as a lion: it shall not lie down till it devour the prey, and drink the blood of the slain.	24 Eis um povo que se levanta como uma leoa, e se põe em pé como um leão; não se deitará, até que tenha devorado a presa e até que tenha bebido o sangue das suas vitimas.
25 And Balac said to Balaam: Neither curse, nor bless him.	25 Balac disse a Balaão: Nem o amaldiçoes, nem o abençoes.
26 And he said: Did I not tell thee, that whatsoever God should command me, that I would do?	26 Mas ele respondeu: Não te disse eu que havia de fazer tudo aquilo que o Senhor me mandasse?
27 And Balac said to him: Come and I will bring thee to another place; if peradventure it please God that thou mayest curse them from thence.	27 Balac disse-lhe: Vem, e levar-te-ei a outro lugar, a ver se é do agrado de Deus que tu de lá os amaldiçoes.
28 And when he had brought him upon the top of mount Phogor, which looketh towards the wilderness,	28 Depois de o ter levado ao cimo do monte Fogor, que olha para o deserto,
29 Balaam said to him: Build me here seven altars, and prepare as many calves, and the same number of rams.	29 Balaão disse-lhe: Levanta-me aqui sete altares, prepara outros tantos novilhos, e igual número de carneiros.
30 Balac did as Balaam had said: and he laid on every altar, a calf and a ram.	30 Balac fez o que Balaão lhe dissera, e pôs um novilho e um carneiro sobre cada altar.
