1 Thus saith the Lord: Behold I will raise up as it were a pestilential wind against Babylon and against the inhabitants thereof, who have lifted up their heart against me.	1 Cosi parla il Signore: « Ecco io farò sollevare contro Babilonia e contro i suoi abitanti, che si sono inalberati contro di me, come un vento pestilenziale.
2 And I will send to Babylon fanners, and they shall fan her, and shall destroy her land: for they are come upon her on every side in the day of her affliction.	2 E manderò a Babilonia gente col ventilabro, e la spoglieranno al vento e rovineranno la sua terra, accorrendo da ogni parte contro di lei nel giorno della sua sventura.
3 Let not him that bendeth, bend his bow, and let not, him go up that is armed with a coat of mail: spare not her young men, destroy all her army.	3 L'arcere invano tenderà l'arco, invano andrà alla battaglia chi veste corazza. Non risparmiate la sua gioventù, sterminate tutte le sue milizie.
4 And the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and the wounded in the regions thereof.	4 E i morti cadranno nella terra dei Caldei e i feriti per le sue contrade.
5 For Israel and Juda have not been forsaken by their God the Lord of hosts: but their land hath been filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel.	5 Perchè Israele e Giuda non son restati senza il loro Dio, il Signore degli eserciti, mentre la loro terra è piena di delitti contro il Santo di Israele.
6 Flee ye from the midst of Babylon, and let every one save his own life: be not silent upon her iniquity: for it is the time of revenge from the Lord, he will I render unto her what she hath deserved.	6 Fuggite di mezzo a Babilonia, ciascuno metta in salvo la propria vita, non tacete riguardo alla sua iniquità, perchè viene il tempo della vendetta del Signore, che renderà a lei quanto si merita.
7 Babylon hath been a golden cup in the hand of the Lord, that made all the earth drunk: the nations have drunk of her wine, and therefore they have staggered.	7 Babilonia nelle mani del Signore fu un calice d'oro per inebriare tutta la terra: le naziozioni bevvero del suo vino, e per questo non stanno ritte.
8 Babylon is suddenly fallen, and destroyed: howl for her, take balm for her pain, if so she may be healed.	8 All'improvviso Babilonia è caduta ed è andata in pezzi, urlate sopra di lei, prendete dei balsami per i suoi dolori, può essere che guarisca.
9 We would have cured Babylon, but she is not healed: let us forsake her, and let us go every man to his own land: because her judgment hath reached even to the heavens, and is lifted up to the clouds.	9 « Abbiamo curata Babilonia, e non è guarita, abbandoniamola e andiamo ciascuno al suo paese, perchè la sua condanna è giunta al cielo e si è alzata fino alle nubi ».
10 The Lord hath brought forth our justices: Come, and let us declare in Sion the work of the Lord our God.	10 Il Signore ha fatto apparire la nostra giustizia: venite a raccontare in Sion l'opera del Signore Dio nostro.
11 Sharpen the arrows, fill the quivers, the Lord hath raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes: and his mind is against Babylon to destroy it, because it is the vengeance of the Lord, the vengeance of his temple.	11 Aguzzate le frecce, empite i turcassi; il Signore ha suscitato lo spirito dei re di Media, e il suo disegno è contro Babilonia, di distruggerla, essendo la vendetta del Signore, la vendetta del suo tempio.
12 Upon the walls of Babylon set up the standard, strengthen the watch: set up the watchmen, prepare the ambushes: for the Lord hath both purposed, and done all that he spoke against the inhabitants of Babylon.	12 Alzate le insegne contro le mura di Babilonia, aumentate le guardie, ponete sentinelle, preparate imboscate, perchè il Signore ha risoluto ed ha eseguito quanto aveva detto contro gli abitanti di Babilonia.
13 O thou that dwellest upon many waters, rich in treasures, thy end is come for thy entire destruction.	13 O tu che abiti sopra le molte acque, ricca di tesori, è venuta la tua fine, il termine stabilito pel tuo eccidio.
14 The Lord of hosts hath sworn by himself, saying : I will fill thee with men as with locusts, and they shall lift up a joyful shout against thee.	14 Il Signore degli eserciti l'ha giurato per se stesso: « Io ti ricoprirò di uomini come di cavallette, e sopra di te sarà cantata la canzone della vendemmia ».
15 He that made the earth by his power, that hath prepared the world by his wisdom, and stretched out the heavens by his understanding.	15 Egli colla sua potenza fece la terra, colla sua sapienza regola il mondo, colla sua prudenza ha distesi i cieli,
16 When he uttereth his voice the waters are multiplied in heaven: he lifteth up the clouds from the ends of the earth, he hath turned lightning into rain: and hath brought forth the wind out of his treasures.	16 ad una sua voce accumula nel cielo le acque, fa salire le nubi dall'estremità della terra, scioglie i fulmini in pioggia, e fa uscire i venti dai suoi nascondigli.
17 Every man is become foolish by his knowledge: every founder is confounded by his idol, for what he hath cast is a lie, and there is no breath in them.	17 Ogni uomo è reso stolto dalla (sua stessa) scienza, ogni artefice è svergognato dall'idolo, perchè ciò che essi han fuso è menzogna, e non v'è spirito.
18 They are vain works, and worthy to be laughed at, in the time of their visitation they shall perish.	18 Sono opere vane e degne di riso, nel tempo del loro castigo periranno.
19 The portion of Jacob is not like them: for he that made all things he it is, and Israel is the sceptre of his inheritance: the Lord of hosts is his name.	19 Non è come queste cose il retaggio di Giacobbe, è lui quello che ha fatte tutte le cose, e Israele è lo scettro suo ereditario, egli si chiama il Signore degli eserciti.
20 Thou dashest together for me the weapons of war, and with thee I will dash nations together, and with thee I will destroy kingdoms:	20 Tu infrangi per me le armi da guerra, ed io per te stritolerò lo nazioni, per te distruggerò i regni,
21 And with thee I will break in pieces the horse, and his rider, and with thee I will break in pieces the chariot, and him that getteth up into it:	21 per te abbatterò i cavalli e i loro cavalieri, per te fracasserò i cocchi e chi li monta,
22 And with thee I will break in pieces man and woman, and with thee I will break in pieces the old man and the child, and with thee I will break in pieces the young man and the virgin:	22 per te sterminerò uomini e donne, per te sterminerò vecchi e fanciulli, per te sterminerò giovani e fanciulle.
23 And with thee I will break in pieces the shepherd and his dock, and with thee I will break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen, and with thee I will break in pieces captains and rulers.	23 Per te sterminerò i pastori e i loro greggi, per te sterminerò il bifolco e i suoi buoi aggiogati, per te sterminerò i condottieri e i magistrati.
24 And I will render to Babylon, and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil, that they have done in Sion, before your eyes, saith the Lord.	24 Ma poi renderò a Babilonia a e tutti gli abitanti della Caldea tutto il male che essi han fatto a Sion, sotto i vostri occhi — dice il Signore. —
25 Behold I come against thee, thou destroying mountain, saith the Lord, which corruptest the whole earth: and I will stretch out my hand upon thee, and will roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain.	25 Eccomi a te, o pestifero monte, — dice il Signore — che infetti tutta quanta la terra; io stenderò contro di te la mia mano, ti precipiterò dalle rupi, e farò di te un monte bruciato.
26 And they shall not take of thee a stone for the corner, nor a stone for foundations, but thou shalt be destroyed for ever, saith the Lord.	26 E non si trarrà da te nè pietra da angolo, nè pietra da fondamenti, ma sarai distrutto in eterno — dice il Signore. —
27 Set ye up a standard in the land: sound with the trumpet among the nations: prepare the nations against her: call together against her the kings of Ararat, Menni, and Ascenez: number Taphsar against her, bring the horse as the stinging locust.	27 Alzate lo stendardo sopra la terra, sonate la tromba fra le nazioni, preparate alla guerra contro di lei i popoli, chiamate contro di lei i re di Ararat, di Menni, di Ascenez, numerate contro di lei (i soldati del) Tafsar, lanciate cavalli come cavallette armate di pungiglione.
28 Prepare the nations against her, the kings of Media, their captains, and all their rulers, and all the land of their dominion.	28 Preparate alla guerra contro di lei le nazioni, i re della Media, i suoi capitani, tutti i suoi governatori, tutta la terra a lei soggetta.
29 And the land shall be in a commotion, and shall be troubled: for the design of the Lord against Babylon shall awake, to make the land of Babylon desert and uninhabitable.	29 E la terra tremerà e sarà agitata, perchè si compirà il decreto, il pensiero del Signore contro Babilonia, di ridurre la terra di Babilonia a un deserto, e inabitabile.
30 The valiant men of Babylon have forborne to fight, they have dwelt in holds: their strength hath failed, and they are become as women: her dwelling places are burnt, her bars are broken.	30 I forti di Babilonia han cessato di combattere, si son ritirati nei luoghi fortificati, le loro forze sono esaurite, son diventati come donne, le loro dimore sono state date alle fiamme, le lor sbarre sono state spezzate.
31 One running post shall meet another, and messenger shall meet messenger: to tell the king of Babylon that his city is taken from one end to the other:	31 Il corriere andrà incontro al corriere, il messaggero incontro al messaggero, per annunziare al re di Babilonia che la sua città è stata presa da un'estremità all'altra.
32 And that the fords are taken, and the marshes are burnt with fire, and the men of war are affrighted.	32 Che i passaggi sono occupati, le arginature sono date alle fiamme, e gli uomini di guerra sono scompigliati.
33 For thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel: The daughter of Babylon is like a thrashingfloor, this is the time of her thrashing: yet a little while, and the time of her harvest shall come.	33 Infatti così parla il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: « La figlia di Babilonia è come un'aia al tempo della sua battitura, ancora un poco e verrà per lei il tempo della mietitura ».
34 Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon hath eaten me up, he hath devoured me: he hath made me as an empty vessel: he hath swallowed me up like a dragon, he hath filled his belly with my delicate meats, and he hath cast me out.	34 Mi ha consumato, mi ha divorato Nabucodonosor re di Babilonia, m'ha reso come un vaso vuoto, m'ha ingoiato come un dragone, ha riempito il suo ventre di ciò che io avevo di meglio, e m'ha cacciato.
35 The wrong done to me, and my flesh be upon Babylon, saith the habitation of Sion : and my blood upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, saith Jerusalem.	35 Il male commesso contro di me e la mia carne sta sopra Babilonia, dice il popolo di Sion, e il mio sangue sta sopra gli abitanti della Caldea, dice Gerusalemme.
36 Therefore thus saith the Lord: Behold I will judge thy cause, and will take vengeance for thee, and I will make her sea desolate, and will dry up her spring.	36 Per questo, così dice il Signore: « Ecco io giudicherò la tua causa, e farò le tue vendette, e ridurrò a un deserto il suo mare, e seccherò le sue sorgenti.
37 And Babylon shall be reduced to heaps, a dwelling place for dragons, an astonishment and a hissing, because there is no inhabitant.	37 E Babilonia sarà un cumulo di rovine, tana di dragoni, oggetto di stupore e di scherno per non avere chi la abiti.
38 They shall roar together like lions, they shall shake their manes like young lions.	38 Ruggiranno insieme come leoni, scoteranno le criniere come leoncelli,
39 In their heat I will set them drink: and I will make them drunk, that they may slumber, and sleep an everlasting sleep, and awake no more, saith the Lord.	39 nel loro bollore porgerò ad essi la loro bevanda, e li inebrierò in modo che s'addormentino e dormano un sonno sempiterno, e più non si alzino — dice il Signore.
40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, and like rams with kids.	40 Io li condurrò come agnelli al macello e come arieti coi capretti.
41 How is Sesach taken, and the renowned one of all the earth surprised? How is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations?	41 Come mai è stata presa Sesac, e fatta prigioniera la gloria di tutta la terra? Come mai è diventata oggetto di stupore, Babilonia, fra le nazioni?
42 The sea is come up over Babylon: she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof.	42 Il mare ha inondato Babilonia, la massa dei suoi flutti l'ha sommersa.
43 Her cities are become an astonishment, a land uninhabited and desolate, a land wherein none can dwell, nor son of man pass through it.	43 Le sue città son divenute oggetto di stupore, terra inabitabile e deserta nella quale non abita nessuno e non passa il figlio dell'uomo.
44 And I will visit against Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he had swallowed down: and the rations shall no more flow together to him, for the wall also of Babylon shall fall.	44 E andrò a trovar Bel in Babilonia, e gli farò vomitare quel che ha ingoiato, e non accorreranno più a lui le nazioni: anche le mura di Babilonia andranno in rovina.
45 Go out of the midst of her, my people: that every man may save his life from the fierce wrath of the Lord.	45 Uscite di mezzo a lei, o mio popolo, così ciascuno potrà salvare la sua vita dall'ira furibonda del Signore.
46 And lest your hearts faint, and ye fear for the rumour that shall be heard in the land : and a rumour shall come in one year, and after this year another rumour: and iniquity in the land, and ruler upon ruler.	46 E non si sgomenti il vostro cuore, non vi spaventate per le notizie che circoleranno pel paese, perchè un anno verrà una notizia, e dopo quest'anno altra notizia, e vi sarà l'iniquità sulla terra e tiranno sopra tiranno.
47 Therefore behold the days come, and I will visit the idols of Babylon: and her whole land shall be confounded, and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.	47 E appunto allora verrà il tempo in cui visiterò gl'idoli di Babilonia; e tutta la sua terra sarà in confusione, e cadranno in mezzo a lei, tutti i suoi uccisi.
48 And the heavens and the earth, and all things that are in them shall give praise for Babylon: for spoilers shall come to her from the north, saith the Lord.	48 E il cielo e la terra e tutto ciò che è in essi canteranno lodi a riguardo di Babilonia, perchè dal settentrione le verranno i devastatori — dice il Signore.
49 And as Babylon caused that there should fall slain in Israel: so of Babylon there shall fall slain in all the earth.	49 E come Babilonia fece cadere degli uccisi in Israele, così quelli di Babilonia cadranno uccisi per tutta la terra.
50 You that have escaped the sword, come away, stand not still: remember the Lord afar off, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.	50 O scampati alla spada, venite, o non vi fermate, da lontano ricordatevi del Signore, e sia presente al vostro cuore Gerusalemme.
51 We are confounded, because we have heard reproach: shame hath covered our faces: because strangers are come upon the sanctuaries of the house of the Lord.	51 Noi siam confusi per aver sentito l'obbrobrio, l'ignominia ha coperto le nostre facce, perchè degli stranieri son venuti contro il Santuario della casa del Signore.
52 Therefore behold the days come, saith the Lord, and I will visit her graven things, and in all her land the wounded shall groan:	52 Per questo ecco che viene il tempo — dice il Signore — in cui io visiterò i suoi idoli e per tutta la sua terra gemeranno i feriti.
53 If Babylon should mount up to heaven, and establish her strength on high: from me there should come spoilers upon her, saith the Lord.	53 Anche se Babilonia salisse in cielo e stabilisse nell'alto la sua potenza, da me le verranno i devastatori — dice il Signore. —
54 The noise of a cry from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans :	54 Alte strida da Babilonia: grande strage nella terra dei Caldei.
55 Because the Lord hath laid Babylon waste, and destroyed out of her the great voice: and their wave shall roar like many waters: their voice hath made a noise:	55 Perchè il Signore ha devastata Babilonia, ha fatto cessare il suo gran rumore. I loro flutti rimbombarono come acque immense, il loro rumore si fece sentire.
56 Because the spoiler is come upon her, that is, upon Babylon, and her valiant men are taken, and their bow is weakened, because the Lord, who is a strong revenger, will surely repay.	56 E' piombato sopra di lei — sopra Babilonia — il saccheggiatore; i suoi forti son presi, i loro archi sono spezzati, perchè il Signore è forte vendicatore, e renderà in tutti i modi il contraccambio.
57 And I will make her princes drunk. and her wise men, and her captains, and her rulers, and her valiant men: and they shall sleep an everlasting sleep, and shall awake no more, saith the whose name is Lord of hosts.	57 E' inebrierò i suoi principi, i suoi sapienti, i suoi capitani, i suoi magistrati, i suoi guerrieri, e dormiranno un sonno eterno, e non si sveglieranno più, — dice il Re che ha nome il Signore degli eserciti.
58 Thus saith the Lord of hosts: That broad wall of Babylon shall be utterly broken down, and her high gates shall be burnt with fire, and the labours of the people shall come to nothing, and of the nations shall go to the fire, and shall perish.	58 Così parla il Signore degli eserciti: « Le mura di Babilonia, cosi famosamente larghe, saranno rase al suolo, le sue alte porte saran consumate dal fuoco, e le fatiche dei popoli saran ridotte al niente, e quelle delle nazioni andranno a finire nel fuoco e periranno ».
59 The word that Jeremias the prophet commanded Saraias the son of Nerias, the son of Maasias, when he went with king Sedecias to Babylon, in the fourth year of his reign: now Saraias was chief over the prophecy.	59 Ordine dato dal profeta Geremia a Saraia, figlio di Neria figlio di Maasia, quando andò a Babilonia col re Sedecia, nel quarto anno del regno di lui. Or Saraia era capo dell'ambasciata.
60 And Jeremias wrote in one book all the evil that was to come upon Babylon: all these words that are written against Babylon.	60 Geremia scrisse in un volume tutte le sventure che dovevan piombare sopra Babilonia: tutte queste parole che sono state scritte contro Babilonia.
61 And Jeremias said to Saraias: When thou shalt come into Babylon, and shalt see, and shalt read all these words,	61 E Geremia disse a Saraia: « Quando tu sarai arrivato a Babilonia, ed avrai vedute e lette tutte queste parole,
62 Thou shalt say: O Lord, thou hast spoken against this place to destroy it: so that there should be neither man nor beast to dwell therein, and that it should be desolate for ever.	62 dirai: — Signore, tu hai detto contro questo luogo di distruggerlo, in modo che non ci sia chi lo abiti, nè uomo nè bestia, e sia un eterno deserto. .—
63 And when thou shalt have made an end of reading this book, thou shalt tie a stone to it, and shalt throw it into the midst of the Euphrates:	63 E quando avrai finito di leggere questo volume, lo legherai a una pietra e lo getterai nel mezzo doll'Eufrate,
64 And thou shalt say: Thus shall Babylon sink, and she shall not rise up from the affliction that I will bring upon her, and she shall be utterly destroyed. Thus far are the words of Jeremias.	64 e dirai: — Così sarà sommersa Babilonia e non potrà rialzarsi dopo la sventura che io fo venire sopra di lei, e sarà distrutta ». Fin qui le parole di Geremia.
