Jeremiah 11

1 The word that came from the Lord to Jeremias, saying:	1 Parole que le Seigneur adressa à Jérémie, en ces termes :
2 Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak to the men of Juda, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem,	2 Ecoutez les paroles de cette alliance, et parlez aux hommes de Juda et aux habitants de Jérusalem,
3 And thou shalt say to them: Thus saith the Lord the God of Israel: Cursed is the man that shall not hearken to the words of yethis covenant,	3 et dites-leur : Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, le Dieu d'Israël : Maudit (soit) l'homme qui n'écoutera pas les paroles de cette alliance,
4 Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying: Hear ye my voice, and do all things that I command you: and you shall be my people, and I will be your God:	4 que j'ai prescrite (je prescrivis) à vos pères le jour où je les tirai de la terre d'Egypte, de la fournaise de fer, en disant : Ecoutez ma voix, et faites tout ce que je vous ordonne, et vous serez mon peuple et je serai votre Dieu ;
5 That I may accomplish the oath which I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. And I answered and said: Amen, O Lord.	5 afin que j'accomplisse le serment que j'ai fait à vos pères, de leur donner une terre où coule(raie)nt le lait et le miel, comme vous le voyez aujourd'hui. Je répondis et je dis : Qu'il en soit ainsi, Seigneur.
6 And the Lord said to me: Proclaim aloud all these words in the cities of Juda, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying: Hear ye the words of the covenant, and do them:	6 Et le Seigneur me dit : Crie (toutes) ces paroles dans (toutes) les villes de Juda, et hors de Jérusalem, en disant : Ecoutez les paroles de cette alliance et observez-les,
7 For protesting I conjured your fathers in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt even to this day: rising early I conjured them, and said: Hearken ye to my voice:	7 car j'ai conjuré vos pères avec instance (prenant à témoin, j'ai pris à témoin), depuis le jour où je les ai tirés de la terre d'Egypte jusqu'à aujourd'hui ; je les ai conjurés (pris à témoin) en me levant dès le matin, et je leur ai dit : Ecoutez ma voix.
8 And they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear: but walked every one in the perverseness of his own wicked heart: and I brought upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did them not.	8 Et ils n'ont pas écouté, et ils n'ont pas prêté l'oreille, mais chacun a suivi la dépravation de son mauvais cœur ; et j'ai accompli sur eux toutes les paroles de cette alliance, que je leur avais ordonné d'observer et qu'ils n'ont pas observée.
9 And the Lord said to me: A conspiracy is found among the men of Juda, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.	9 Et le Seigneur me dit : Il y a une conjuration chez les hommes de Juda et chez les habitants de Jérusalem.
10 They are returned to the former iniquities of their fathers, who refused to hear my words: so these likewise have gone after strange gods, to serve them: the house of Israel, and the house of Juda have made void my covenant, which I made with their fathers.	10 Ils sont retournés aux anciennes iniquités de leurs pères, qui n'ont pas voulu écouter mes paroles. Ceux-ci (donc) ont couru aussi après des dieux étrangers, pour les servir ; la maison d'Israël et la maison de Juda ont rompu (rendu vaine) l'alliance que j'avais conclue avec leurs pères.
11 Wherefore thus saith the Lord: Behold I will bring in evils upon them, which they shall not be able to escape: and they shall cry to me, and I will not hearken to them.	11 C'est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur : Voici que je ferai venir sur eux des maux dont ils ne pourront sortir ; et ils crieront vers moi, et je ne les exaucerai pas.
12 And the cities of Juda, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem shall go, and cry to the gods to whom they offer sacrifice, and they shall not save them in the time of their affliction.	12 Et les villes de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem iront crier vers les dieux auxquels ils font des libations, et ils ne les sauveront pas au temps de leur affliction.
13 For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Juda: and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem thou hast set up altars of confusion, altars to offer sacrifice to Baalim.	13 Car tu as eu autant de dieux que de villes, ô Juda ; et dans chacune des rues de (selon le nombre de tes rues) Jérusalem vous avez (tu as) placé des autels de confusion, des autels pour faire des libations à Baal (aux Baalim).
14 Therefore, do not thou pray for this people, and do not take up praise and prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time of their cry to me, in the time of their affliction.	14 Toi donc, n'intercède (ne prie) pas pour ce peuple, et n'entreprends pour eux ni supplication (louange) ni prière, car je ne les écouterai pas au temps où ils crieront vers moi, au temps de leur affliction.
15 What is the meaning that my beloved hath wrought muck wickedness in my house? shall the holy flesh take away from thee thy crimes, in which thou hast boasted?	15 D'où vient que mon bien-aimé a commis des crimes nombreux dans ma maison ? Les chairs saintes des victimes enlèveront-elles tes malices, dans lesquelles tu te glorifies (t'es glorifiée) ?
16 The Lord called thy name, a plentiful olive tree, fair, fruitful, and beautiful: at the noise of a word, a great fire was kindled in it and the branches thereof are burnt.	16 Olivier fertile, beau, chargé de fruits, gracieux, tel est le nom que le Seigneur t'a donné ; au bruit de sa parole un grand feu s'est mis dans cet arbre, et ses branches (rameaux) ont été brûlé(e)s.
17 And the Lord of hosts that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee: for the evils of the house of Israel, and the house of Juda, which they have done to themselves, to provoke me, offering sacrifice to Baalim.	17 Le Seigneur des armées, qui t'a(vait) planté, a prononcé l'arrêt de malheur contre toi, à cause des maux que la maison d'Israël et la maison de Juda ont commis pour m'irriter, en faisant des libations à (aux) Baal(im).
18 But thou, O Lord, hast shewn me, and I have known: then thou shewedst me their doings.	18 Mais vous, Seigneur, vous m'avez instruit (fait voir leurs pensées), et j'ai (je les ai) connu(es) ; vous m'avez découvert leurs desseins.
19 And I was as a meek lamb, that is carried to be a victim: and I knew not that they had devised counsels against me, saying: Let us put wood on his bread, and cut him off from the land of the living, and let his name be remembered no more.	19 Et moi j'étais (j'ai été) comme un agneau plein de douceur, qu'on porte à la boucherie (en faire une victime), et je ne connaissais pas les projets qu'ils avaient formés contre moi, en disant : Mettons du bois dans son pain, exterminons-le de la terre des vivants, et qu'on ne se souvienne plus de son nom.
20 But thou, O Lord of Sabaoth, who judgest justly, and triest the reins and hearts, let me see thy revenge on them: for to thee I have revealed my cause.	20 Mais vous, Seigneur des armées (Sabaoth, note), qui jugez justement, et qui sondez les reins et les cœurs, faites-moi voir votre vengeance sur eux ; car je vous ai confié (révélé) ma cause.
21 Therefore thus saith the Lord to the men of Anathoth, who seek thy life, and say: Thou shalt not prophesy in the name of the Lord, and thou shalt not die in our hands.	21 C'est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur aux habitants d'Anathoth, qui en veulent à ma vie (cherchent mon âme), et qui disent : (Tu) Ne prophétise(ras) pas au nom du Seigneur, ou (et) tu (ne) mourras (pas) de notre main ;
22 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts: Behold I will visit upon them: and their young men shall die by the sword, their sons and their daughters shall die by famine.	22 c'est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées : Je les châtierai (visiterai) ; les jeunes gens mourront par le glaive, leurs fils et leurs filles mourront de faim.
23 And there shall be no remains of them: for I will bring in evil upon the men of Anathoth, the year of their visitation.	23 Et il ne restera rien d'eux, car je ferai venir le malheur sur les habitants d'Anathoth, l'année où je les châtierai (de leur visite).
