1 The words of Gatherer the son of Vomiter. The vision which the man spoke with whom God is, and who being strengthened by God, abiding with him, said:	1 Palavras de Agur, filho de Jake, de Massa. Visão, que expôs um homem, com quem Deus está, e que, tendo sido confortado pela assistência de Deus que reside nele, disse:
2 I am the most foolish of men, and the wisdom of men is not with me.	2 Eu sou o mais insensato dos homens, e a sabedoria dos homens não está em mim.
3 I have not learned wisdom, and have not known the science of saints.	3 Eu não aprendi a sabedoria, e não conheci (por mim próprio) a ciência do Santo.
4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, and descended? who hath held the wind in his hands? who hath bound up the waters together as in a garment? who hath raised up all the borders of the earth? what is his name, and what is the name of his son, if thou knowest?	4 Quem subiu ao céu, e desceu dele? Quem reteve o vento nas suas mãos? Quem envolveu as águas como num vestido? Quem fixou os extremos da terra? Qual é o seu nome, e qual é o nome de seu filho, se é que o sabes?
5 Every word of God is fire tried: he is a buckler to them that hope in him.	5 Toda a palavra de Deus é purificada pelo fogo; ele é um escudo para os que esperam nele.
6 Add not any thing to his words, lest thou be reproved, and found a liar:	6 Não acrescentes nada às suas palavras, para não seres por isso repreendido e achado mentiroso. Duas coisas (ó Senhor) são as que te pedi; não mas negues antes que morra;
7 Two things I have asked of thee, deny them not to me before I die.
8 Remove far from me vanity, and lying words. Give me neither beggary, nor riches: give me only the necessaries of life:	8 Afasta de mim a falsidade e as palavras mentirosas; não me dês nem a pobreza, nem as riquezas, dá-me sòmente o que for necessário para viver,
9 Lest perhaps being filled, I should be tempted to deny, and say: Who is the Lord? or being compelled by poverty, I should steal, and forswear the name of my God.	9 para que não suceda que, estando eu saciado, seja tentado a renegar-te e a dizer (com arrogância): Quem é o Senhor? ou que, constrangido pela indigência, me ponha a furtar, e atente contra o nome do meu Deus.
10 Accuse not a servant to his master, lest he curse thee, and thou fall.	10 Não calunies o servo diante do seu senhor. para que não suceda que ele te amaldiçoe e que sofras o castigo.
11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.	11 Há uma casta de gente que amaldiçoa o seu pai e que não abençoa sua mãe.
12 A generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet are not washed from their filthiness.	12 Há uma casta de gente que se julga pura, e contudo não está limpa das suas manchas.
13 A generation, whose eyes are lofty, and their eyelids lifted up on high.	13 Há uma casta de gente cujos olhos são altivos, cujas pálpebras são levantadas.
14 A generation, that for teeth hath swords, and grindeth with their jaw teeth, to devour the needy from off the earth, and the poor from among men.	14 Há uma casta de gente que, em lugar de dentes, tem espadas, cujas maxilas são facas, para devorar os desvalidos da terra, os que são pobres entre os homens.
15 The horseleech hath two daughters that say: Bring, bring. There are three things that never are satisfied, and the fourth never saith: It is enough.	15 A sanguessuga tem duas filhas que dizem: Dá-me, dá-me. Há três coisas, que são insaciáveis, antes, quatro, que nunca dizem: "Basta".
16 Hell, and the mouth of the womb, and the earth which is not satisfied with water: and the fire never saith: It is enough.	16 A habitação dos mortos, o seio estéril, a terra que nunca se farta de água, e o fogo que nunca diz: Basta.
17 The eye that mocketh at his father, and that despiseth the labour of his mother in bearing him, let the ravens of the brooks pick it out, and the young eagles eat it.	17 Quanto aos olhos do que escarnece de seu pai. e despreza a mãe que o deu à luz, arranquem-nos os corvos que andam à borda das torrentes, e comam-nos os filhos da águia.
18 Three things are hard to me, and the fourth I am utterly ignorant of.	18 Três coisas me são dificultosas (de entender), antes, quatro, que não compreendo:
19 The way of an eagle in the air, the way of a serpent upon a rock, the way of a ship in the midst of the sea, and the way of a man in youth.	19 O caminho da águia pelo ar, o caminho da cobra sobre a pedra, o caminho da nau no meio do mar, e o caminho do homem na (busca da) donzela.
20 Such is also the way of an adulterous woman, who eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith: I have done no evil.	20 Tal é também o caminho da mulher adúltera, a qual, depois de comer, limpa a boca e diz; Eu não fiz mal nenhum.
21 By three things the earth is disturbed, and the fourth it cannot bear:	21 A terra estremece com três coisas, antes, são quatro que ela não pode suportar;
22 By a slave when he reigneth: by a fool when he is filled with meat:	22 Um escravo que chega a mandar, um insensato que chega à abundância,
23 By an odious woman when she is married: and by a bondwoman when she is heir to her mistress.	23 uma mulher sem pretendentes, se encontra marido, e uma escrava que ficou a herdeira da sua senhora.
24 There are four very little things of the earth, and they are wiser than the wise:	24 Quatro coisas há sobre a terra, que são muito pequenas, e que são mais sábias do que os mesmos sábios:
25 The ants, a feeble people, which provide themselves food in the harvest:	25 As formigas, esse fraco povo, que faz o seu provimento durante o estio;
26 The rabbit, a weak people, which maketh its bed in the rock:	26 os hirazes, esse povo sem poder, que faz a sua habitação nos rochedos;
27 The locust hath no king, yet they all go out by their bands.	27 os gafanhotos, que não têm rei, e que todavia saem todos ordenados em seus esquadrões
28 The stellio supporteth itself on hands, and dwelleth in kings' houses.	28 o lagarto, que se pode apanhar com as mãos, mas que penetra no palácio dos reis.
29 There are three things, which go well, and the fourth that walketh happily:	29 Há três coisas que andam com muito garbo, ou antes, quatro, que andam garbosamente:
30 A lion, the strongest of beasts, who hath no fear of any thing he meeteth:	30 O leão, o mais forte dos animais, que, de nada que encontra, tem receio;
31 A cock girded about the loins: and a ram: and a king, whom none can resist.	31 o galo, que anda muito senhor de si, o bode, e o rei, a quem nada resiste.
32 There is that hath appeared a fool after he was lifted up on high: for if he had understood, he would have laid his hand upon his mouth.	32 Tal homem manifestou-se um Insensato, depois que foi elevado a um alto posto; porque, se tivesse tido inteligência, teria posto a mão sobre a sua boca.
33 And he that strongly squeezeth the papa to bring out milk, straineth out butter: and he that violently bloweth his nose, bringeth out blood: and he that provoketh wrath bringeth forth strife.	33 Quem aperta muito o úbere para tirar leite, faz sair dele um suco espesso; quem se assoa violentamente, tira sangue; assim aquele que excita a ira produz discórdias.
