Psalms 55

1 Unto the end, in verses, understanding for David.	1 'Al maestro del coro. Per strumenti a corda. Maskil.' 'Di Davide.'
2 Hear, O God, my prayer, and despise not my supplication:	2 Porgi l'orecchio, Dio, alla mia preghiera, non respingere la mia supplica;
	3 dammi ascolto e rispondimi, mi agito nel mio lamento e sono sconvolto
4 the same are darts.	4 al grido del nemico, al clamore dell'empio. Contro di me riversano sventura, mi perseguitano con furore.
5 be attentive to me and hear me. I am grieved in my exercise; and am troubled,	5 Dentro di me freme il mio cuore, piombano su di me terrori di morte.
6 at the voice of the enemy, and at the tribulation of the sinner. For they have cast iniquities upon me: and in wrath they were troublesome to me.	6 Timore e spavento mi invadono e lo sgomento mi opprime.
7 My heart is troubled within me: and the fear of death is fallen upon me.	7 Dico: "Chi mi darà ali come di colomba, per volare e trovare riposo?
8 Fear and trembling are come upon me: and darkness hath covered me.	8 Ecco, errando, fuggirei lontano, abiterei nel deserto.
9 And I said: Who will give me wings like a dove, and I will fly and be at rest?	9 Riposerei in un luogo di riparo dalla furia del vento e dell'uragano".
10 Lo, I have gone far off flying away; and I abode in the wilderness.	10 Disperdili, Signore, confondi le loro lingue: ho visto nella città violenza e contese.
11 I waited for him that hath saved me from pusillanimity of spirit, and a storm.	11 Giorno e notte si aggirano sulle sue mura,
12 Cast down, O Lord, and divide their tongues; for I have seen iniquity and contradiction in the city.	12 all'interno iniquità, travaglio e insidie e non cessano nelle sue piazze sopruso e inganno.
13 Day and night shall iniquity surround it upon its walls: and in the midst thereof are labour,	13 Se mi avesse insultato un nemico, l'avrei sopportato; se fosse insorto contro di me un avversario, da lui mi sarei nascosto.
14 and injustice. And usury and deceit have not departed from its streets.	14 Ma sei tu, mio compagno, mio amico e confidente;
15 For if my enemy had reviled me, I would verily have borne with it. And if he that hated me had spoken great things against me, I would perhaps have hidden myself from him.	15 ci legava una dolce amicizia, verso la casa di Dio camminavamo in festa.
16 But thou a man of one mind, my guide, and my familiar,	16 Piombi su di loro la morte, scendano vivi negli inferi; perché il male è nelle loro case, e nel loro cuore.
17 Who didst take sweetmeats together with me: in the house of God we walked with consent.	17 Io invoco Dio e il Signore mi salva.
18 Let death come upon them, and let them go down alive into hell. For there is wickedness in their dwellings: in the midst of them.	18 Di sera, al mattino, a mezzogiorno mi lamento e sospiro ed egli ascolta la mia voce;
19 But I have cried to God: and the Lord will save me.	19 mi salva, mi dà pace da coloro che mi combattono: sono tanti i miei avversari.
20 Evening and morning, and at noon I will speak and declare: and he shall hear my voice.	20 Dio mi ascolta e li umilia, egli che domina da sempre. Per essi non c'è conversione e non temono Dio.
21 He shall redeem my soul in peace from them that draw near to me: for among many they were with me.	21 Ognuno ha steso la mano contro i suoi amici, ha violato la sua alleanza.
22 God shall hear, and the Eternal shall humble them. For there is no change with them, and they have not feared God:	22 Più untuosa del burro è la sua bocca, ma nel cuore ha la guerra; più fluide dell'olio le sue parole, ma sono spade sguainate.
23 he hath stretched forth his hand to repay. They have defiled his covenant,	23 Getta sul Signore il tuo affanno ed egli ti darà sostegno, mai permetterà che il giusto vacilli.
24 they are divided by the wrath Of his countenance, and his heart hath drawn near. His words are smoother than oil, and	24 Tu, Dio, li sprofonderai nella tomba gli uomini sanguinari e fraudolenti: essi non giungeranno alla metà dei loro giorni. Ma io, Signore, in te confido.
25 Cast thy care upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall not suffer the just to waver for ever.
