Job 42

1 Then Job answered the Lord, and said :	1 Allora Giobbe rispose a Jahvè e disse:
2 I know that thou canst do all things, and no thought is hid from thee.	2 «Io so che tu puoi tutto e niente per te è difficile.
3 Who is this that hideth counsel without knowledge? Therefore I have spoken unwisely, and things that above measure exceeded my knowledge.	3 Chi può offuscare i tuoi piani con la sua ignoranza? Dunque io parlavo di ciò che non capivo, di cose troppo superiori a me, che non comprendo.
4 Hear, and I will speak : I will ask thee, and do thou tell me.	4 Ascolta e io parlerò; io domanderò e tu mi istruirai.
5 With the hearing of the ear, I have heard thee, but now my eye seeth thee.	5 Avevo inteso parlare di te per sentito dire, ma ora il mio occhio ti vede
6 Therefore I reprehend myself, and do penance in dust and ashes.	6 e perciò mi ritratto e farò penitenza sulla polvere e sulla cenere».
7 And after the Lord had spoken these words to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Themanite : My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends, because you have not spoken the thing that is right before my, as my servant Job hath.	7 Dopo che Jahvè ebbe detto queste parole a Giobbe, Jahvè disse anche a Elifaz il Temanita: «La mia ira si leva contro di te e i tuoi due amici, perché non avete detto di me il vero, come il mio servitore Giobbe.
8 Take unto you therefore seven oxen, and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer for yourselves a holocaust : and my servant Job shall pray for you : his face I will accept, that folly be not imputed to you : for you have not spoken right things before me, as my servant Job hath.	8 Prendete dunque per voi sette giovenchi e sette montoni, andate dal mio servitore Giobbe e offriteli in olocausto per voi. Giobbe mio servitore pregherà per voi, affinché io, per riguardo a lui, non punisca la vostra stoltezza; perché non avete detto di me il vero, come il mio servitore Giobbe».
9 So Eliphaz the Themanite, and Baldad the Suhite, and Sophar the Naamathite went, and did as the Lord had spoken to them, and the Lord accepted the face of Job.	9 Andarono dunque Elifaz il Temanita, Bildad lo Shukhita e Zofar il Naamatita e fecero quanto aveva detto loro Jahvè; e Jahvè ebbe riguardo di Giobbe.
10 The Lord also was turned at the penance of Job, when he prayed for his friends. And the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.	10 Jahvè ristabilì gli affari di Giobbe, perché egli aveva pregato per i suoi amici, e Jahvè aggiunse a Giobbe il doppio di quanto aveva posseduto.
11 And all his brethren came to him, and all his sisters, and all that knew him before, and they ate bread with him in his house : and bemoaned him, and comforted him upon all the evil that God had brought upon him. And every man gave him one ewe, and one earring of fold.	11 Vennero poi da lui tutti i fratelli e le sorelle e quanti lo conoscevano di persona e mangiarono pane nella sua casa. Si dolsero quindi con lui e lo consolarono di tutte le sventure che Jahvè gli aveva mandato; ognuno gli diede una moneta e un anello d’oro.
12 And the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning. And he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.	12 Jahvè benedisse la nuova condizione di Giobbe più dell’antica. Ebbe quattordicimila pecore, seimila cammelli, mille paia di buoi e mille asine.
13 And he had seven sons, and three daughters.	13 Ebbe anche quattordici figli e tre figlie.
14 And he called the names of one Dies, and the name of the second Cassia, and the name of the third Cornustibil.	14 Chiamò la prima jemina, la seconda Kezia, la terza Keren-Haffuch.
15 And there were not found in all the earth women so beautiful as the daughters of Job : and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren.	15 In quella terra non si trovavano donne più belle delle figlie di Giobbe e il loro padre diede loro parte dell’eredità con i fratelli.
16 And Job lived after these things, a hundred and forty years, and he saw his children, and his children's children, unto the fourth generation, and he died an old man, and full of days.	16 Dopo di ciò Giobbe visse ancora centoquarant’anni e vide i suoi figli e i figli dei figli: quattro generazioni.
	17 Poi Giobbe morì, vecchio e sazio di giorni.
