1 And when Solomon had made an end of his prayer, Are came down from heaven, and consumed the holocausts and the victims: and the majesty of the Lord tilled the house.	1 Lorsque Salomon eut achevé sa prière, le feu descendit du ciel et consuma les holocaustes et les victimes, et la majesté du Seigneur remplit la maison.
2 Neither could the priests enter into the temple of the Lord, because the majesty of the Lord had filled the temple of the Lord.	2 Et les prêtres ne pouvaient pas entrer dans le temple du Seigneur, parce que Sa majesté avait rempli Son temple.
3 Moreover all the children of Israel saw the fire coming down, and the glory of the Lord upon the house: and falling down with their faces to the ground, upon the stone pavement, they adored and praised the Lord: because he is good, because his mercy endureth for ever.	3 Tous les enfants d'Israël virent descendre le feu et la gloire du Seigneur sur le temple; et, se prosternant la face contre terre sur le pavé de pierres, ils adorèrent le Seigneur et Le louèrent, en disant : Parce qu'Il est bon, et que Sa miséricorde est éternelle.
4 And the king and all the people sacrificed victims before the Lord.	4 Le roi et tout le peuple immolaient donc des victimes devant le Seigneur.
5 And king Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty-two thousand oxen, and one hundred and twenty thousand rams: and the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.	5 Le roi Salomon sacrifia vingt-deux mille boeufs et cent vingt mille moutons; et le roi avec tout le peuple fit la dédicace de la maison de Dieu.
6 And the priests stood in their offices: and the Levites with the instruments of music of the Lord, which king David made to praise the Lord: because his mercy endureth for ever, singing the hymns of David by their ministry: and the priests sounded with trumpets before them, and all Israel stood.	6 Les prêtres se tenaient chacun à leurs postes, ainsi que les lévites, avec les instruments de louanges que le roi David avait faits pour louer le Seigneur, en disant : Que Sa miséricorde est éternelle. Ils chantaient aussi les hymnes de David sur les instruments qu'ils touchaient. Or les prêtres, qui se tenaient devant eux, sonnaient de la trompette, et tout le peuple était debout.
7 Solomon also sanctified the middle of the court before the temple of the Lord: for he offered there the holocausts, and the fat of the peace offerings: because the brazen altar, which he had made, could not hold the holocausts and the sacrifices and the fat:	7 Le roi consacra aussi le milieu du parvis, devant le temple du Seigneur; car il avait offert en ce lieu les holocaustes et la graisse des victimes pacifiques, parce que l'autel d'airain qu'il avait fait ne pouvait suffire pour les holocaustes, les sacrifices et les graisses.
8 And Solomon kept the solemnity at that time seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great congregation, from the entrance of Emath to the torrent of Egypt.	8 Salomon fit en ce temps-là une fête solennelle pendant sept jours, et tout Israël avec lui; cette assemblée fut immense, car on y vint depuis l'entrée d'Emath jusqu'au torrent d'Egypte.
9 And he made on the eighth day a solemn assembly, because he had kept the dedication of the altar seven days, and had celebrated the solemnity seven days.	9 Le huitième jour, il célébra l'assemblée solennelle, parce qu'il avait employé sept jours à la dédicace de l'autel, et sept jours à la fête des Tabernacles.
10 So on the three and twentieth day of the seventh month he sent away the people to their dwellings, joyful and glad for the good that the Lord had done to David, and to Solomon, and to all Israel his people.	10 Ainsi, le vingt-troisième jour du septième mois, il renvoya le peuple à ses tentes : tous joyeux et contents des grâces que le Seigneur avait faites à David, à Salomon et à Israël Son peuple.
11 And Solomon finished the house of the Lord, and the king's house, and all that he had designed in his heart to do, in the house of the Lord, and in his own house, and he prospered.	11 Salomon acheva donc la maison du Seigneur et le palais du roi; et il réussit dans tout ce qu'il s'était proposé de faire, tant dans la maison du Seigneur que dans son palais.
12 And the Lord appeared to him by night, and said : I have heard thy prayer, and I have chosen this place to myself for a house of sacrifice.	12 Et le Seigneur lui apparut la nuit, et lui dit : J'ai exaucé votre prière, et J'ai choisi pour Moi ce lieu comme maison de sacrifice.
13 If I shut up heaven, and there fall no rain, or if I give orders, and command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people:	13 Si Je ferme le ciel, et qu'il ne tombe point de pluie, ou que J'ordonne et que Je commande aux sauterelles de ravager le pays, et que J'envoie la peste parmi Mon peuple,
14 And my people, upon whom my name is called, being converted, shall make supplication to me, and seek out my face, and do penance for their most wicked ways: then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sine and will heal their land.	14 et que Mon peuple, sur qui Mon nom a été invoqué, Me supplie, recherche Mon visage et fasse pénitence de ses mauvaises voies, Je l'exaucerai du Ciel, et Je lui pardonnerai ses péchés, et Je guérirai son pays.
15 My eyes also shall be open, and my ears attentive to the prayer of him that shall pray in this place.	15 Mes yeux seront ouverts, et Mes oreilles attentives à la prière de celui qui priera en ce lieu;
16 For I have chosen, and have sanctified this place, that my name may be there for ever, and my eyes and my heart may remain there perpetually.	16 car J'ai choisi et sanctifié ce lieu pour que Mon nom y soit à jamais, et que Mes yeux et Mon coeur y soient toujours attachés.
17 And as for thee, if thou walk before me, as David thy father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded thee, and keep my justices and my judgments :	17 Et vous-même, si vous marchez en Ma présence, ainsi que David votre père y a marché; si vous agissez en tout selon ce que Je vous ai prescrit, et que vous gardiez Mes préceptes et Mes ordonnances;
18 I will raise up the throne of thy kingdom, as I promised to David thy father, saying: There shall not fail thee a man of thy stock to be ruler in Israel.	18 Je conserverai le trône de votre règne, ainsi que Je l'ai promis à David votre père, en disant : Vous aurez toujours des successeurs de votre race, qui seront princes d'Israël.
19 But if you turn away, and forsake my justices, and my commandments which I have set before you, and shall go and serve strange gods, and adore them,	19 Mais si vous vous détournez de Moi, si vous abondonnez les lois et les ordonnances que Je vous ai proposées, si vous allez servir les dieux étrangers et que vous les adoriez;
20 I will pluck you up by the root out of my land which I have given you: and this house which I have sanctified to my name, I will cast away from before my face, and will make it a byword, and an example among all nations.	20 Je vous arracherai de Ma terre que Je vous ai donnée, et Je rejetterai loin de Moi ce temple que J'ai consacré à Mon nom, et J'en ferai une fable et un exemple à tous les peuples.
21 And this house shall be for a proverb to all that pass by, and they shall be astonished and say: Why hath the Lord done thus to this land, and to this house?	21 Et cette maison deviendra un proverbe pour tous les passants, et, frappés d'étonnement, ils diront : Pourquoi le Seigneur a-t-Il traité ainsi cette terre et cette maison?
22 And they shall answer: Because they forsook the Lord the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on strange gods, and adored them, and worshipped them: therefore all these evils are come upon them.	22 Et on répondra : C'est qu'ils ont abandonné le Seigneur, le Dieu de leurs pères, qui les avait tirés de la terre d'Egypte, qu'ils ont pris des dieux étrangers, et qu'ils les ont adorés et révérés. Voilà ce qui a attiré sur eux tous ces maux.
