1 And Josaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with them in the city of David: and Joram his son reigned in his stead.	1 Joshafat si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto insieme con loro nella città di David. Joram suo figlio regnò al suo posto.
2 And he had brethren the sons of Josaphat, Azarias, and Jahiel, and Zacharias, and Azaria, and Michael, and Saphatias, all these were the sons of Josaphat king of Juda.	2 I suoi fratelli, figli di Joshafat, erano Azaria, Jekhiel, Zaccaria, Azariahu, Michele e Shefatia. ‘Tutti questi erano figli di Joshafat re di Israele.
3 And their father gave them great gifts of silver, and of gold, and pensions, with strong cities in Juda: but the kingdom he gave to Joram, because he was the eldest.	3 Il padre aveva fatto loro ricchi doni in argento, oro e oggetti preziosi; in più aveva loro dato roccheforti di Giuda. Diede però il regno a Joram che era il primogenito.
4 So Joram rose up over the kingdom of his father: and when he had established himself, he slew all his brethren with the sword, and some of the princes of Israel.	4 Ora quando Joram, salito sul trono del padre, si fu rafforzato, fece uccidere di spada tutti i suoi fratelli e, inoltre, alcuni capi di Israele.
5 Joram was two and thirty years old when he began to reign: and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.	5 Quando divenne re, Joram aveva trentadue anni e regnò otto anni a Gerusalemme.
6 And he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Achab had done: for his wife was a daughter of Achab, and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.	6 Egli batté la strada dei re di Israele come la casa di Akhab; egli infatti aveva in sposa una figlia di Akhab e fece il male agli occhi di Jahvè.
7 But the Lord would not destroy the house of David: because of the covenant which he had made with him: and because he had promised to give a lamp to him, and to his sons for ever.	7 Tuttavia Jahvè non volle annientare la casa di David, a causa dell’alleanza che aveva concluso con lui e perché aveva promesso di concedere a lui e ai suoi figli una lampada perenne.
8 In those days Edom revolted, from being subject to Juda, and made themselves a king.	8 Al suo tempo Edom si ribellò al dominio di Giuda e si costituì un re.
9 And Joram went over with his princes, and all his cavalry with him, and rose in the night, and defeated the Edomites who had surrounded him, and all the captains of his cavalry.	9 Joram pertanto, insieme con i capi e tutti i carri, passò oltre; quindi attaccò di notte e sconfisse gli Idumei che lo circondavano, insieme con i capi dei carri.
10 However Edom revolted, from being under the dominion of Juda unto this day: at that time Lobna also revolted, from being under his hand. For he had forsaken the Lord the God of his fathers:	10 In tal modo Edom si rese indipendente dal dominio di Giuda fino a oggi. Allora anche Libna si ribellò nello stesso tempo al suo potere, poiché egli aveva abbandonato Jahvè Dio dei suoi padri.
11 Moreover he built also high places in the cities of Juda, and he made the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and Juda to transgress.	11 Anch’egli eresse alture sui monti di Giuda, fece prostituire gli abitanti di Gerusalemme e rese Giuda infedele.
12 And there was a letter brought him from Elias the prophet, in which it was written: Thus saith the Lord the God of David thy father: Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Josaphat thy father nor in the ways of Asa king of Juda,	12 Ma gli pervenne dal profeta Elia questo scritto: «Così dice Jahvè, Dio di David tuo padre: “Poiché tu non hai battuto le vie di Joshafat tuo padre né le vie di Asa re di Giuda,
13 But hast walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and hast made Juda and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, imitating the fornication of the house of Achab, moreover also thou hast killed thy brethren, the house of thy father, better men than thyself,	13 ma hai camminato per la strada dei re di Israele, inducendo alla prostituzione Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme come ha fatto la casa di Akhab; e poiché hai ucciso anche i tuoi fratelli, migliori di te, cioè la casa di tuo padre,
14 Behold the Lord will strike thee with a great plague, with all thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy substance.	14 ecco, Jahvè colpirà inesorabilmente con una grave piaga il tuo popolo, i tuoi figli, le tue mogli e tutti i tuoi beni.
15 And thou shalt be sick of a very grievous disease of thy bowels, till thy vital parts come out by little and little every day.	15 Tu stesso cadrai in una grave infermità, in una malattia di viscere; alla fine, a causa del male, ti usciranno gli intestini nel giro di due anni».
16 And the Lord stirred up against Joram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, who border on the Ethiopians.	16 Jahvè aizzò contro Joram lo spirito ostile dei Filistei e degli Arabi, i quali abitavano vicino ai Chushiti.
17 And they came up into the land of Juda, and wasted it, and they carried away all the substance that was found in the king's house, his sons also, and his wives: so that there was no son left him but Joachaz, who was the youngest.	17 Questi mossero contro Giuda, vi irruppero e saccheggiarono tutti i beni che si trovavano nella reggia e, di più, portarono via i figli e le mogli. Non gli rimase altro figlio che Joakhaz il minore.
18 And besides all this the Lord struck him with an incurable disease in his bowels.	18 In seguito a tutti questi fatti, Jahvè lo colpì con un male inguaribile agli intestini.
19 And as day came after day, and time rolled on, two whole years passed: then after being wasted with a long consumption, so as to void his very bowels, his disease ended with his life. And he died of a most wretched illness, and the people did not make a funeral for him according to the manner of burning, as they had done for his ancestors.	19 Così continuò per due anni, finché, giunto al termine del secondo anno, non gli uscirono le viscere a causa della malattia e morì tra dolori atroci. Il suo popolo non accese per lui alcun rogo, come invece era stato acceso per i suoi padri.
20 He was two and thirty years old when he began his reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. And he walked not rightly, and they buried him in the city of David: but not in the sepulchres of the kings.	20 Quando divenne re aveva trentadue anni e regnò otto anni a Gerusalemme. Se ne andò senza rimpianto e fu sepolto nella città di David, non però nella tomba dei re.
