1 And Israel taking his journey, with all that he had, came to the well of the oath, and killing victims there to the God of his father Isaac,	1 Israël partit donc avec tout ce qu’il possédait, et il arriva à Bersabée où il offrit des sacrifices au Dieu de son père Isaac.
2 He heard him by a vision in the night calling him, and saying to him: Jacob, Jacob. And he answered him: Lo, here I am.	2 Durant la nuit, Dieu parla à Israël dans une vision: “Jacob! Jacob!” lui dit-il. Il répondit: “Me voici!”
3 God said to him: I am the most mighty God of thy father: fear not, go down into Egypt, for I will make a great nation of thee there.	3 Dieu lui dit: “Je suis le Dieu de ton père! Ne crains pas de descendre en Égypte, car je ferai de toi une grande nation.
4 I will go down with thee thither, and will bring thee back again from thence: Joseph also shall put his hands upon thy eyes.	4 Je descendrai avec toi en Égypte et je t’en ferai remonter. Et c’est Joseph qui te fermera les yeux.”
5 And Jacob rose up from the well of the oath: and his sons took him up, with their children and wives in the wagons, which Pharao had sent to carry the old man,	5 Jacob quitta donc Bersabée et les fils d’Israël transportèrent leur père Jacob avec leurs petits enfants et leurs femmes, sur les chariots que Pharaon avait envoyés pour les transporter.
6 And all that he had in the land of Chanaan, and he came into Egypt with all his seed:	6 Ils prirent leurs troupeaux et tout ce qu’ils avaient amassé au pays de Canaan, et c’est ainsi que Jacob et toute sa famille avec lui entrèrent en Égypte.
7 His sons, and grandsons, daughters, and all his offspring together.	7 Il emmena toute sa descendance en Égypte: ses fils et ses filles avec tous leurs enfants.
8 And these are the names of the children of Israel, that entered into Egypt, he and his children. His firstborn Ruben,	8 Voici les noms des fils d’Israël qui entrèrent en Égypte, c’est-à-dire Jacob et sa descendance: Premier-né de Jacob: Ruben.
9 The sons of Ruben: Henoch and Phallu, and Hesron and Charmi.	9 Fils de Ruben: Hénok, Pallu, Hesron, Karmi.
10 The sons of Simeon: Jamuel and Jamin and Ahod, and Jachin and Sohar, and Saul the son of a woman of Chanaan.	10 Fils de Siméon: Yémouel, Yamin, Ohad, Yakin, Sokar, et Chaoul, le fils de la Cananéenne.

26 All the souls that went with Jacob into Egypt, and that came out of his thigh, besides his sons' wives, sixty-six.	26 Le total des personnes qui entrèrent en Égypte avec Jacob, tous de sa descendance, sans compter les femmes des fils de Jacob, était de 66. C’est le total des personnes.
27 And the sons of Joseph, that were born to him in the land of Egypt, two souls. All the souls of the house of Jacob, that entered into Egypt, were seventy.	27 Quant aux fils que Joseph eut en Égypte, ils étaient deux; le total des personnes de la maison de Jacob qui s’installèrent en Égypte était donc de 70.
28 And he sent Juda before him to Joseph, to tell him; and that he should meet him in Gessen.	28 Avant d’entrer dans le pays de Gossen, Jacob envoya devant lui Juda à la rencontre de Joseph pour le prévenir de son arrivée au pays de Gossen.
29 And when he was come thither, Joseph made ready his chariot, and went up to meet his father, in the same place: and seeing him, he fell upon his neck, and embracing him wept.	29 Joseph attela son char et partit à la rencontre d’Israël, son père, en Gossen. Il se présenta devant lui, se jeta à son cou et pleura longuement dans ses bras.
30 And the father said to Joseph: Now shall I die with joy, because I have seen thy face, and leave thee alive.	30 Israël dit à Joseph: Maintenant je peux mourir, car j’ai revu ton visage et je sais que tu es en vie.”
31 And Joseph said to his brethren, and to all his father's house: I will go up, and will tell Pharao, and will say to him: My brethren and my father's house, that were in the land of Chanaan, are come to me:	31 Joseph dit à ses frères et à la famille de son père: “Je m’en vais avertir le Pharaon. Je lui dirai: Mes frères et la famille de mon père qui étaient en Canaan sont venus me rejoindre.
32 And the men are shepherds, and their occupation is to feed cattle: their flocks and herds, and all they have, they have brought with them.	32 Ces hommes sont des bergers de petit bétail, ils sont éleveurs de troupeaux. Ils ont amené leur petit bétail et leur gros bétail, ainsi que tout ce qu’ils possédaient.
33 And when he shall call you, and shall say: What is your occupation?	33 Lorsque le Pharaon vous appellera et vous dira: Que faisiez-vous?
34 You shall answer: We thy servants are shepherds, from our infancy until now, both we and our fathers. And this you shall say, that you may dwell in the land of Gessen, because the Egyptians have all shepherds in abomination.	34 vous répondrez: Tes serviteurs ont été éleveurs de bêtes depuis leur jeunesse jusqu’à ce jour. C’est ce que nous faisons, comme le faisaient nos pères.
	35 Ainsi vous pourrez rester dans le pays de Gossen, car les bergers sont méprisés dans toute l’Égypte.”
