Prima lettera ai Tessalonicesi 4

DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 NEL rimanente adunque, fratelli, noi vi preghiamo, ed esortiamo nel Signore Gesù, che, come avete da noi ricevuto come vi convien camminare, e piacere a Dio, in ciò vie più abbondiate.	1 Final y, brothers, we urge you and appeal to you in the Lord Jesus; we instructed you how to live in theway that pleases God, and you are so living; but make more progress stil .
2 Perciocchè voi sapete quali comandamenti vi abbiamo dati per lo Signore Gesù.	2 You are well aware of the instructions we gave you on the authority of the Lord Jesus.
3 Poichè questa è la volontà di Dio, cioè: la vostra santificazione; acciocchè vi asteniate dalla fornicazione;	3 God wil s you al to be holy. He wants you to keep away from sexual immorality,
4 e che ciascun di voi sappia possedere il suo vaso in santificazione, ed onore;	4 and each one of you to know how to control his body in a way that is holy and honourable,
5 non in passione di concupiscenza, come i Gentili, i quali non conoscono Iddio.	5 not giving way to selfish lust like the nations who do not acknowledge God.
6 E che niuno oppressi il suo prossimo, nè gli faccia frode negli affari di questa vita; perciocchè il Signore è il vendicator di tutte queste cose; siccome ancora vi abbiamo innanzi detto, e protestato.	6 He wants nobody at al ever to sin by taking advantage of a brother in these matters; the Lord alwayspays back sins of that sort, as we told you before emphatical y.
7 Poichè Iddio non ci ha chiamati ad immondizia, ma a santificazione.	7 God cal ed us to be holy, not to be immoral;
8 Perciò chi sprezza queste cose non isprezza un uomo, ma Iddio, il quale ancora ha messo il suo Spirito Santo in noi	8 in other words, anyone who rejects this is rejecting not human authority, but God, who gives you hisHoly Spirit.
9 Ora, quant’è all’amor fraterno, voi non avete bisogno ch’io ve ne scriva; perciocchè voi stessi siete insegnati da Dio ad amarvi gli uni gli altri.	9 As for brotherly love, there is no need to write to you about that, since you have yourselves learnt fromGod to love one another,
10 Perciocchè lo stesso fate voi ancora inverso tutti i fratelli, che sono in tutta la Macedonia; or vi esortiamo, fratelli, che in ciò vie più abbondiate.	10 and in fact this is how you treat al the brothers throughout the whole of Macedonia. However, we dourge you, brothers, to go on making even greater progress
11 E procacciate studiosamente di vivere in quiete, e di fare i fatti vostri, e di lavorar colle proprie mani, siccome vi abbiamo ordinato.	11 and to make a point of living quietly, attending to your own business and earning your living, just as wetold you to,
12 Acciocchè camminiate onestamente inverso que’ di fuori, e non abbiate bisogno di cosa alcuna	12 so that you may earn the respect of outsiders and not be dependent on anyone.
13 ORA, fratelli, noi non vogliamo che siate in ignoranza intorno a quelli che dormono; acciocchè non siate contristati, come gli altri che non hanno speranza.	13 We want you to be quite certain, brothers, about those who have fallen asleep, to make sure that youdo not grieve for them, as others do who have no hope.
14 Poichè, se crediamo che Gesù è morto, ed è risuscitato, Iddio ancora addurrà con lui quelli che dormono in Gesù.	14 We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and that in the same way God wil bring with him thosewho have fallen asleep in Jesus.
15 Perciocchè noi vi diciamo questo per parola del Signore: che noi viventi, che sarem rimasti fino alla venuta del Signore, non andremo innanzi a coloro che dormono.	15 We can tell you this from the Lord's own teaching, that we who are stil alive for the Lord's coming willnot have any advantage over those who have fallen asleep.
16 Perciocchè il Signore stesso, con acclamazion di conforto, con voce di arcangelo, e con tromba di Dio, discenderà dal cielo; e quelli che son morti in Cristo risusciteranno primieramente.	16 At the signal given by the voice of the Archangel and the trumpet of God, the Lord himself wil comedown from heaven; those who have died in Christ wil be the first to rise,
17 Poi noi viventi, che saremo rimasti, saremo insieme con loro rapiti nelle nuvole, a scontrare il Signore nell’aria; e così saremo sempre col Signore.	17 and only after that shall we who remain alive be taken up in the clouds, together with them, to meetthe Lord in the air. This is the way we shall be with the Lord for ever.
18 Consolatevi adunque gli uni gli altri con queste parole	18 With such thoughts as these, then, you should encourage one another.
