Prima lettera ai Corinzi 10

DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 ORA, fratelli, io non voglio che ignoriate che i nostri padri furono tutti sotto la nuvola, e che tutti passarono per lo mare;	1 I want you to be quite certain, brothers, that our ancestors al had the cloud over them and al passedthrough the sea.
2 e che tutti furono battezzati in Mosè, nella nuvola, e nel mare;	2 In the cloud and in the sea they were all baptised into Moses;
3 e che tutti mangiarono il medesimo cibo spirituale;	3 al ate the same spiritual food
4 e che tutti bevvero la medesima bevanda spirituale; perciocchè bevevano della pietra spirituale, che li seguitava; or quella pietra era Cristo.	4 and al drank the same spiritual drink, since they drank from the spiritual rock which fol owed them,and that rock was Christ.
5 Ma Iddio non gradì la maggior parte di loro; perciocchè furono abbattuti nel deserto	5 In spite of this, God was not pleased with most of them, and their corpses were scattered over thedesert.
6 Or queste cose furon figure a noi; acciocchè noi non appetiamo cose malvage, siccome anch’essi le appetirono.	6 Now these happenings were examples, for our benefit, so that we should never set our hearts, as theydid, on evil things;
7 E che non diveniate idolatri, come alcuni di loro; secondo ch’egli è scritto: Il popolo si assettò per mangiare, e per bere, poi si levò per sollazzare.	7 nor are you to worship false gods, as some of them did, as it says in scripture: The people sat down toeat and drink, and afterwards got up to amuse themselves.
8 E non fornichiamo, come alcuni di loro fornicarono, onde ne caddero in un giorno ventitremila.	8 Nor, again, are we to fall into sexual immorality; some of them did this, and twenty-three thousand mettheir downfal in one day.
9 E non tentiamo Cristo, come ancora alcuni di loro lo tentarono, onde perirono per li serpenti.	9 And we are not to put the Lord to the test; some of them put him to the test, and they were killed bysnakes.
10 E non mormoriate, come ancora alcuni di loro mormorarono, onde perirono per lo distruttore.	10 Never complain; some of them complained, and they were killed by the Destroyer.
11 Or tutte queste cose avvennero loro per servir di figure; e sono scritte per ammonizion di noi, ne’ quali si sono scontrati gli ultimi termini de’ secoli.	11 Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were described in writing to bea lesson for us, to whom it has fallen to live in the last days of the ages.
12 Perciò, chi si pensa star ritto, riguardi che non cada.	12 Everyone, no matter how firmly he thinks he is standing, must be careful he does not fall.
13 Tentazione non vi ha ancora colti, se non umana; or Iddio è fedele, il qual non lascerà che siate tentati sopra le vostre forze; ma con la tentazione darà l’uscita, acciocchè la possiate sostenere.	13 None of the trials which have come upon you is more than a human being can stand. You can trustthat God wil not let you be put to the test beyond your strength, but with any trial will also provide a way out byenabling you to put up with it.
14 PERCIÒ, cari miei, fuggite dall’idolatria	14 For that reason, my dear friends, have nothing to do with the worship of false gods.
15 Io parlo come ad intendenti; giudicate voi ciò che io dico.	15 I am talking to you as sensible people; weigh up for yourselves what I have to say.
16 Il calice della benedizione, il qual noi benediciamo, non è egli la comunione del sangue di Cristo? il pane, che noi rompiamo, non è egli la comunione del corpo di Cristo?	16 The blessing-cup, which we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ; and the loaf of bread which we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ?
17 Perciocchè vi è un medesimo pane, noi, benchè molti, siamo un medesimo corpo; poichè partecipiamo tutti un medesimo pane.	17 And as there is one loaf, so we, although there are many of us, are one single body, for we all sharein the one loaf.
18 Vedete l’Israele secondo la carne; non hanno coloro che mangiano i sacrificii comunione con l’altare?	18 Now compare the natural people of Israel: is it not true that those who eat the sacrifices share thealtar?
19 Che dico io adunque? che l’idolo sia qualche cosa? o che ciò che è sacrificato agl’idoli sia qualche cosa?	19 What does this mean? That the dedication of food to false gods amounts to anything? Or that falsegods themselves amount to anything?
20 Anzi dico, che le cose che i Gentili sacrificano, le sacrificano a’ demoni, e non a Dio; or io non voglio che voi abbiate comunione co’ demoni.	20 No, it does not; simply that when pagans sacrifice, what is sacrificed by them is sacrificed to demonswho are not God. I do not want you to share with demons.
21 Voi non potete bere il calice del Signore, e il calice de’ demoni; voi non potete partecipar la mensa del Signore, e la mensa de’ demoni.	21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons as wel ; you cannot have a share at theLord's table and the demons' table as wel .
22 Vogliamo noi provocare il Signore a gelosia? siamo noi più forti di lui?	22 Do we real y want to arouse the Lord's jealousy; are we stronger than he is?
23 OGNI cosa mi è lecita, ma non ogni cosa è utile; ogni cosa mi è lecita, ma non ogni cosa edifica.	23 'Everything is permissible'; maybe so, but not everything does good. True, everything is permissible,but not everything builds people up.
24 Niuno cerchi il suo proprio, ma ciascuno cerchi ciò che è per altrui.	24 Nobody should be looking for selfish advantage, but everybody for someone else's.
25 Mangiate di tutto ciò che si vende nel macello, senza farne scrupolo alcuno per la coscienza;	25 Eat anything that is sold in butchers' shops; there is no need to ask questions for conscience's sake,
26 perciocchè del Signore è la terra, e tutto ciò che ella contiene.	26 since To the Lord belong the earth and all it contains.
27 E se alcuno degl’infedeli vi chiama, e volete andarvi, mangiate di tutto ciò che vi è posto davanti, senza farne scrupolo alcuno per la coscienza.	27 If an unbeliever invites you to a meal, go if you want to, and eat whatever is put before you; you neednot ask questions of conscience first.
28 Ma, se alcuno vi dice: Questo è delle cose sacrificate agl’idoli, non ne mangiate, per cagion di colui che ve l’ha significato, e per la coscienza.	28 But if someone says to you, 'This food has been offered in sacrifice,' do not eat it, out ofconsideration for the person that told you, for conscience's sake-
29 Or io dico coscienza, non la tua propria, ma quella d’altrui; perciocchè, perchè sarebbe la mia libertà giudicata dalla coscienza altrui?	29 not your own conscience, I mean, but the other person's. Why should my freedom be governed bysomebody else's conscience?
30 Che se per grazia io posso usar le vivande, perchè sarei biasimato per ciò di che io rendo grazie?	30 Provided that I accept it with gratitude, why should I be blamed for eating food for which I givethanks?
31 Così adunque, o che mangiate, o che beviate, o che facciate alcun’altra cosa, fate tutte le cose alla gloria di Dio.	31 Whatever you eat, then, or drink, and whatever else you do, do it al for the glory of God.
32 Siate senza dare intoppo nè a’ Giudei, nè a’ Greci, nè alla chiesa di Dio.	32 Never be a cause of offence, either to Jews or to Greeks or to the Church of God,
33 Siccome io ancora compiaccio a tutti in ogni cosa, non cercando la mia propria utilità, ma quella di molti, acciocchè sieno salvati	33 just as I try to accommodate everybody in everything, not looking for my own advantage, but for theadvantage of everybody else, so that they may be saved.
