DIODATI	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 COLUI vien dal deserto, dal paese spaventevole, a guisa di turbini, che passano nel paese del Mezzodì.	1 Oracle on the wastelands by the sea: Like whirlwinds sweeping in waves through the Negeb, there comes from the desert, from the fearful land,
2 Una dura visione mi è stata annunziata. Il disleale ha trovato un disleale; il guastatore ha trovato un guastatore. Sali, Elam; Media, assedia; io ho fatto cessare ogni gemito.	2 A cruel sight, revealed to me: the traitor betrays, the despoiler spoils. "Go up, Elam; besiege, O Media; I will put an end to all groaning!"
3 Perciò i miei lombi son pieni di doglia; dolori mi hanno colto, simili a’ dolori della donna che partorisce; io mi sono scontorto, per ciò che ho udito; e mi sono smarrito, per ciò che ho veduto.	3 Therefore my loins are filled with anguish, pangs have seized me like those of a woman in labor; I am too bewildered to hear, too dismayed to look.
4 Il mio cuore è smarrito, orrore mi ha conturbato, il vespro de’ miei diletti mi è stato cangiato in ispavento.	4 My mind reels, shuddering assails me; My yearning for twilight has turned into dread.
5 Mentre la tavola sarà apparecchiata, e le guardie staranno alla veletta, e si mangerà, e si berrà; levatevi, capitani, ungete lo scudo.	5 They set the table, spread out the rugs; they eat, they drink. Rise up, O princes, oil the shield!
6 perciocchè così mi ha detto il Signore: Va’, metti uno alla veletta, ed annunzii ciò ch’egli vedrà.	6 For thus says my Lord to me: Go, station a watchman, let him tell what he sees.
7 Ed egli vide carri, coppie di cavalieri, carri tirati da asini, e carri tirati da cammelli; e considerò tutto ciò molto attentamente.	7 If he sees a chariot, a pair of horses, Someone riding an ass, someone riding a camel, Then let him pay heed, very close heed.
8 E gridò, come un leone: Io sto, Signore, del continuo nella veletta di giorno, e sto in piè nella mia guardia tutte le notti.	8 Then the watchman cried, "On the watchtower, O my Lord, I stand constantly by day; And I stay at my post through all the watches of the night.
9 Ed ecco, son venuti carri d’uomini, coppie di cavalieri. Ed egli rispose, e disse: Caduta, caduta è Babilonia, e tutte le sculture de’ suoi dii sono state spezzate, egittate a terra.	9 Here he comes now: a single chariot, a pair of horses; He calls out and says, 'Fallen, fallen is Babylon, And all the images of her gods are smashed to the ground.'"
10 Ella è ciò che io ho adunato nella mia aia, per trebbiarlo. Io vi ho annunziato ciò che io ho udito dal Signor degli eserciti, dall’Iddio d’Israele	10 O my people who have been threshed, beaten on my threshing floor! What I have heard from the LORD of hosts, The God of Israel, I have announced to you.
11 Il carico di Duma. EI si grida a me di Seir: Guardia, che hai tu veduto dopo la notte? Guardia, che hai tu veduto dopo la notte?	11 Oracle on Edom: They call to me from Seir, "Watchman, how much longer the night? Watchman, how much longer the night?"
12 La guardia ha detto: La mattina è venuta, e poi anche la notte; se voi ne domandate, domandate pure, ritornate, venite	12 The watchman replies, "Morning has come, and again night. If you will ask, ask; come back again."
13 Il carico contro all’Arabia. VOI passerete la notte nelle selve di Arabia, o carovane di Dedanei.	13 Oracle on Arabia: In the thicket in the nomad country spend the night, O caravans of Dedanites.
14 Ei si è portato dell’acqua incontro agli assetati; gli abitanti del paese di Tema son venuti col loro pane incontro a’ fuggenti.	14 Meet the thirsty, bring them water; you who dwell in the land of Tema, greet the fugitives with bread.
15 Perciocchè son fuggiti d’innanzi alle spade, d’innanzi alla spada tratta, d’innanzi all’arco teso, e d’innanzi allo sforzo della battaglia.	15 They flee from the sword, from the whetted sword; From the taut bow, from the fury of battle.
16 Perciocchè il Signore mi ha detto così: Infa un anno, quale è il termine degli anni di un servitore tolto a prezzo, tutta la gloria di Chedar verrà meno.	16 For thus says the Lord to me: In another year, like those of a hireling, all the glory of Kedar shall come to an end.
17 E il rimanente del numero de’ forti arcieri de’ figliuoli di Chedar sarà poco; perciocchè il Signore Iddio d’Israele ha parlato	17 Few of Kedar's stalwart archers shall remain, for the LORD, the God of Israel, has spoken.
