1 I FIGLIUOLI di Giuda furono Fares, ed Hesron, e Carmi, ed Hur, e Sobal.	1 The descendants of Judah were: Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal.
2 E Reaia, figliuolo di Sobal, generò Iahat; e Iahat generò Ahumai e Lahad. Queste son le famiglie de’ Soratei.	2 Reaiah, the son of Shobal, became the father of Jahath, and Jahath became the father of Ahumai and Lahad. These were the clans of the Zorathites.
3 E questi furono figliuoli del padre di Etam, cioè: Izreel, ed Isma, ed Idbas: e il nome della lor sorella era Haslelponi.	3 These were the descendants of Hareph, the father of Etam: Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash; their sister was named Hazzelelponi.
4 E Penuel fu padre di Ghedor, ed Ezer padre di Husa. Questi furono i figliuoli di Hur, promigenito di Efrat, padre di Bet-lehem.	4 Penuel was the father of Gedor, and Ezer the father of Hushah. These were the descendants of Hur, the first-born of Ephrathah, the father of Bethlehem.
5 Ed Ashur, padre di Tecoa, ebbe due mogli: Helea e Naara.	5 Ashhur, the father of Tekoa, had two wives, Helah and Naarah.
6 E Naara gli partorì Ahuzzam, e Hefer, e Temeni, ed Ahastari. Questi furono figliuoli di Naara.	6 Naarah bore him Ahuzzam, Hepher, the Temenites and the Ahashtarites. These were the descendants of Naarah.
7 Ed i figliuoli di Helea furono Seret, Iesohar, Etnan,	7 The sons of Helah were Zereth, Izhar, Ethnan, and Koz.
8 e Cos, il quale generò Anub, e Sobeba, e le famiglie di Aharhel, figliuolo di Harum.	8 Koz became the father of Anub and Zobebah, as well as of the clans of Aharhel, son of Harum.
9 E Iabes fu il più onorato de’ suoi fratelli; or sua madre gli pose nome Iabes, perciocchè disse: Io l’ho partorito con dolore.	9 Jabez was the most distinguished of the brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, "I bore him with pain."
10 Or Iabes invocò l’Iddio d’Israele, dicendo: Oh! se pur mi benedicessi, ed allargassi i miei confini, e fosse la tua mano meco, e facessi che io non fossi afflitto d’alcun male! E Iddio fece avvenire ciò ch’egli avea chiesto	10 Jabez prayed to the God of Israel: "Oh, that you may truly bless me and extend my boundaries! Help me and make me free of misfortune, without pain!" And God granted his prayer.
11 E Chelub, fratello di Suha, generò Mehir, che fu padre di Eston.	11 Chelub, the brother of Shuhah, became the father of Mehir, who was the father of Eshton.
12 Ed Eston generò la famiglia di Rafa, e Pasea, e Tehinna, padre della città di Nahas. Questi furono la gente di Reca.	12 Eshton became the father of Bethrapha, Paseah, and Tehinnah, the father of the city of Nahash. These were the men of Recah.
13 Ed i figliuoli di Chenaz furono Otniel e Seraia. Ed i figliuoli di Otniel furono Hatat,	13 The sons of Kenaz were Othniel and Seraiah. The sons of Othniel were Hathath and Meonothai;
14 e Meonotai, il quale generò Ofra; e Semia generò Ioab, padre di coloro che abitarono nella valle, detta dei fabbri; perciocchè essi erano fabbri.	14 Meonothai became the father of Ophrah. Seraiah became the father of Joab, the father of Geharashim, so called because they were craftsmen.
15 Ed i figliuoli di Caleb, figliuolo di Gefunne, furono Iru, Ela, e Naam. E il figliuolo di Ela fu Chenaz.	15 The sons of Caleb, son of Jephunneh, were Ir, Elah, and Naam. The sons of Elah were. . . and Kenaz.
16 Ed i figliuoli di Iehalleleel furono Zif, e Zifa, Tiria, ed Asareel.	16 The sons of Jehallelel were Ziph, Ziphah, Tiria, and Asarel.
17 Ed i figliuoli di Esdra furono Ieter, e Mered, ed Efer, e Ialon; e la moglie di Mered partorì Miriam, e Sammai, ed Isba, padre di Estemoa.	17 The sons of Ezrah were Jether, Mered, Epher, and Jalon. Jether became the father of Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah, the father of Eshtemoa. (. . . . . .)
18 E l’altra sua moglie Giudea partorì Iered, padre di Ghedor; ed Heber, padre di Soco; e Iecutiel, padre di Zanoa. Ma quegli altri precedenti furono figliuoli di Bitia, figliuola di Faraone, la quale Mered avea presa per moglie.	18 His (Mered's) Egyptian wife bore Jered, the father of Gedor, Heber, the father of Soco, and Jekuthiel, the father of Zanoah. These were the sons of Bithiah, the daughter of Pharaoh, whom Mered married.
19 E questi ultimi furono figliuoli della moglie Giudea, la quale era sorella di Naham, padre de’ Garmei, abitanti in Cheila; e de’ Maacatiti, abitanti in Estemoa.	19 The sons of his Jewish wife, the sister of Naham, the father of Keilah, were Shimon the Garmite and Ishi the Maacathite.
20 E i figliuoli di Simone furono Amnon e Rinna; Ben-hanan e Tilon. Ed i figliuoli d’Isi furono Zobet e Ben-zohet.	20 The sons of Shimon were Amnon, Rinnah, Benhanan, and Tilon. The son of Ishi was Zoheth and the son of Zoheth. . . .
21 I figliuoli di Sela, figliuolo di Giuda, furono Er, padre di Lecha; e Lada, padre di Maresa; e le famiglie della casa di Asbea, la quale esercitava l’arte del bisso;	21 The descendants of Shelah, son of Judah, were: Er, the father of Lecah; Laadah, the father of Mareshah; the clans of the linen weavers' guild in Bethashbea;
22 e Iochim, e que’ di Cozeba, e Ioas, e Saraf, i quali signoreggiarono sopra Moab; e Iasubi-lehem. Ma queste cose sono antiche.	22 Jokim; the men of Cozeba; and Joash and Saraph, who held property in Moab, but returned to Bethlehem. (These are events of old.)
23 Essi furono vasellai; ed uomini che stavano ne’ giardini e ne’ parchi; e dimorarono quivi appresso del re per fare il suo lavoro	23 They were potters and inhabitants of Netaim and Gederah, where they lived in the king's service.

26 E il figliuolo di Misma fu Hamuel, di cui fu figliuolo Zaccur, di cui fu figliuolo Simi.	26 The descendants of Mishma were his son Hammuel, whose son was Zaccur, whose son was Shimei.
27 E Simi ebbe sedici figliuoli e sei figliuole; ma i suoi fratelli non ebbero molti figliuoli; talchè tutta la lor nazione non moltiplicò al pari de’ figliuoli di Giuda.	27 Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters. His brothers, however, did not have many sons, and as a result all their clans did not equal the number of the Judahites.
28 Ed abitarono in Beerseba, ed in Molada, ed in Hasar-sual,	28 They dwelt in Beer-sheba, Moladah, Hazar-shual,
29 ed in Bilha, ed in Esem, ed in Tolad,	29 Bilhah, Ezem, Tolad,
30 ed in Betuel, ed in Horma, ed in Siclag, ed in Bet-marcabot,	30 Bethuel, Hormah, Ziklag,
31 ed in Hasar-susim, ed in Bet-birei ed in Saaraim. Queste furono le lor città mentre regnò Davide.	31 Beth-marcaboth, Hazar-susim, Bethbiri, and Shaaraim. Until David came to reign, these were their cities
32 E le lor castella furono Etam, ed Ain; Rimmon, e Tochen, ed Asan, cinque terre;	32 and their villages. Etam, also, and Ain, Rimmon, Tochen, and Ashan--five cities,
33 insieme con tutte le loro villate, ch’erano intorno a quelle città, fino a Baal. 38 costoro furono quelli ch’erano famosi, capi nelle lor famiglie; e le case loro paterne crebbero in grandissimo numero.	38 these just named were princes in their clans, and their ancestral houses spread out to such an extent
39 Laonde andarono dall’entrata di Ghedor, fino alla parte orientale della valle, per cercar paschi per i lor bestiami.	39 that they went to the approaches of Gedor, east of the valley, seeking pasture for their flocks.
40 E trovarono de’ paschi grassi e buoni, ed un paese largo, quieto e felice; perciocchè quelli che vi abitavano prima eran de’ discendenti di Cam.	40 They found abundant and good pastures, and the land was spacious, quiet, and peaceful.
41 Costoro adunque, che sono stati descritti per i nomi loro, vennero al tempo di Ezechia, re di Giuda, e percossero le tende di coloro, e gli abitacoli che vi furono ritrovati; e li distrussero a modo dell’interdetto; e così son restati fino a questo giorno, ed abitarono in luogo loro; perciocchè quivi erano paschi per le lor gregge.	41 They who have just been listed by name set out during the reign of Hezekiah, king of Judah, and attacked the tents of Ham (for Hamites dwelt there formerly) and also the Meunites who were there. They pronounced against them the ban that is still in force and dwelt in their place because they found pasture there for their flocks.
42 Oltre a ciò, cinquecento uomini d’infra loro, de’ figliuoli di Simeone, avendo per lor capi Pelatia, e Nearia, e Refaia, ed Uzziel, figliuoli d’Isi, andarono al monte di Seir.	42 Five hundred of them (the Simeonites) went to Mount Seir under the leadership of Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah, and Uzziel, sons of Ishi.
43 E percossero il rimanente degli scampati d’infra gli Amalechiti; e sono abitati quivi infino a questo giorno	43 They attacked the surviving Amalekites who had escaped, and have resided there to the present day.
