DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 OR avvenne che, quando gli uomini cominciarono a moltiplicar sopra la terra, e che furono loro nate delle figliuole,	1 When people began being numerous on earth, and daughters had been born to them,
2 i figliuoli di Dio, veggendo che le figliuole degli uomini erano belle, si presero per mogli quelle che si scelsero d’infra tutte	2 the sons of God, looking at the women, saw how beautiful they were and married as many of them asthey chose.
3 E il Signore disse: Lo Spirito mio non contenderà in perpetuo con gli uomini; perciocchè anche non sono altro che carne; e il termine loro sarà centovent’anni	3 Yahweh said, 'My spirit cannot be indefinitely responsible for human beings, who are only flesh; let thetime al owed each be a hundred and twenty years.'
4 In quel tempo i giganti erano in su la terra, e furono anche dappoi, quando i figliuoli di Dio entrarono dalle figliuole degli uomini, ed esse partorirono loro de’ figliuoli. Costoro son quegli uomini possenti, i quali già anticamente erano uomini famosi.	4 The Nephilim were on earth in those days (and even afterwards) when the sons of God resorted to thewomen, and had children by them. These were the heroes of days gone by, men of renown.
5 E il Signore, veggendo che la malvagità degli uomini era grande in terra; e che tutte le immaginazioni de’ pensieri del cuor loro non erano altro che male in ogni tempo,	5 Yahweh saw that human wickedness was great on earth and that human hearts contrived nothing butwicked schemes al day long.
6 ei si pentì d’aver fatto l’uomo in su la terra, e se ne addolorò nel cuor suo.	6 Yahweh regretted having made human beings on earth and was grieved at heart.
7 E il Signore disse: Io sterminerò d’in su la terra gli uomini che io ho creati; io sterminerò ogni cosa, dagli uomini fino agli animali, ai rettili ed agli uccelli del cielo; perciocchè io mi pento di averli fatti	7 And Yahweh said, 'I shal rid the surface of the earth of the human beings whom I created -- humanand animal, the creeping things and the birds of heaven -- for I regret having made them.'
8 Ma Noè trovò grazia appo il Signore.	8 But Noah won Yahweh's favour.
9 Queste son le generazioni di Noè. Noè fu uomo giusto, intiero nelle sue età, e camminò con Dio.	9 This is the story of Noah: Noah was a good man, an upright man among his contemporaries, and hewalked with God.
10 E generò tre figliuoli: Sem, Cam e Iafet	10 Noah fathered three sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth.
11 Ora, la terra si era corrotta nel cospetto di Dio, ed era piena di violenza.	11 God saw that the earth was corrupt and ful of lawlessness.
12 E Iddio riguardò la terra, ed ecco era corrotta; poichè ogni carne aveva corrotta la sua via in su la terra	12 God looked at the earth: it was corrupt, for corrupt were the ways of al living things on earth.
13 E Iddio disse a Noè: Appo me la fine di ogni carne è giunta; perciocchè la terra è ripiena di violenza per cagion di costoro; ed ecco io li farò perire, insieme con la terra.	13 God said to Noah, 'I have decided that the end has come for al living things, for the earth is full oflawlessness because of human beings. So I am now about to destroy them and the earth.
14 Fatti un’Arca di legno di Gofer; falla a stanze, ed impeciala, di fuori e di dentro, con pece.	14 Make yourself an ark out of resinous wood. Make it of reeds and caulk it with pitch inside and out.
15 E questa è la forma della qual tu la farai: la lunghezza di essa sia di trecento cubiti, e la larghezza di cinquanta cubiti, e l’altezza di trenta cubiti.	15 This is how to make it: the length of the ark is to be three hundred cubits, its breadth fifty cubits, andits height thirty cubits.
16 E da’ lume all’Arca; e fa’ il comignolo di essa disopra di un cubito; e metti la porta dell’Arca al lato di essa; falla a tre palchi, basso, secondo e terzo.	16 Make a roof to the ark, building it up to a cubit higher. Put the entrance in the side of the ark, which isto be made with lower, second and third decks.
17 Ed ecco io farò venir sopra la terra il diluvio delle acque, per far perir di sotto al cielo ogni carne in cui è alito di vita; tutto ciò ch’è in terra morrà.	17 'For my part I am going to send the flood, the waters, on earth, to destroy al living things having thebreath of life under heaven; everything on earth is to perish.
18 Ma io fermerò il mio patto teco; e tu entrerai nell’Arca, tu, ed i tuoi figliuoli, e la tua moglie, e le mogli de’ tuoi figliuoli teco.	18 But with you I shal establish my covenant and you wil go aboard the ark, yourself, your sons, yourwife, and your sons' wives along with you.
19 E di ogni creatura vivente, di ogni carne, fanne entrar dentro l’Arca due per ciascuna, che saranno maschio e femmina, per conservarli in vita teco.	19 From al living creatures, from al living things, you must take two of each kind aboard the ark, to savetheir lives with yours; they must be a male and a female.
20 Degli uccelli, secondo le loro specie; delle bestie, secondo le loro specie; e di tutti i rettili, secondo le loro specie; due per ciascuna verranno a te, per esser conservati in vita.	20 Of every species of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that creeps along theground, two must go with you so that their lives may be saved.
21 E tu, prenditi di ogni cibo che si mangia, ed accoglilo appresso a te; acciocchè sia a te ed a quegli animali per cibo	21 For your part, provide yourself with eatables of al kinds, and lay in a store of them, to serve as foodfor yourself and them.'
22 E Noè fece così; egli fece secondo tutto ciò che Iddio gli avea comandato	22 Noah did this; exactly as God commanded him, he did.
