| 1 Lo carico di Babilonia, lo quale vide Isaia figliuolo di Amos. | 1 The oracle concerning Babylon which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw. |
| 2 Levate lo segno in sul monte pieno di oscuritade, esaltate la voce e alzate la mano, e li duchi entrino dentro alle porte. | 2 On a bare hill raise a signal, cry aloud to them; wave the hand for them to enter the gates of the nobles. |
| 3 Io hoe comandato alli (amici) miei santificati, e chiamai li miei forti nell' ira mia, rallegrantisi nella mia gloria. | 3 I myself have commanded my consecrated ones, have summoned my mighty men to execute my anger, my proudly exulting ones. |
| 4 La voce della moltitudine ne' monti, quasi come di molti popoli; voci di re, di genti radunate; lo Signore delli eserciti comandò alla milizia della battaglia, | 4 Hark, a tumult on the mountains as of a great multitude! Hark, an uproar of kingdoms, of nations gathering together! The LORD of hosts is mustering a host for battle. |
| 5 e a quelli che venivano della terra dalla lunga, lo Signore dell' altezza del cielo, e li vasi del suo furore per disperdere tutta la terra. | 5 They come from a distant land, from the end of the heavens, the LORD and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole earth. |
| 6 Urlate, però che il dì del Signore è presso; però che lo guasto verrà da Dio. | 6 Wail, for the day of the LORD is near; as destruction from the Almighty it will come! |
| 7 E però tutte le mani saranno dissolute, e ogni cuore di uomo avvilirà, | 7 Therefore all hands will be feeble, and every man's heart will melt, |
| 8 e sarà spezzato. Elli averanno dolori e tormenti, e addolorarannosi quasi come partorissono; ciascuno si maraviglierà intra lo suo prossimo, e le loro faccie saranno arse. | 8 and they will be dismayed. Pangs and agony will seize them; they will be in anguish like a woman in travail. They will look aghast at one another; their faces will be aflame. |
| 9 Ecco lo die di Dio verrà, crudele e pieno di indignazione e d'ira e di furore; però che viene a porre la terra in isbandeggiamento, e a rompere li suoi peccatori della terra. | 9 Behold, the day of the LORD comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the earth a desolation and to destroy its sinners from it. |
| 10 Però che le stelle del cielo e lo loro splendore non daranno più lo loro lume; lo sole si è oscurato nel suo levamento, e la luna non risplenderà nel suo lume. | 10 For the stars of the heavens and their constellations will not give their light; the sun will be dark at its rising and the moon will not shed its light. |
| 11 E visiterò sopra li mali del mondo, e contra li malvagi la malvagità; e farò stare cheta la superbia delli infedeli, e umilierò l'arroganza de' forti. | 11 I will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; I will put an end to the pride of the arrogant, and lay low the haughtiness of the ruthless. |
| 12 L'uomo sarà più prezioso che l'oro, e più che non è lo perfetto oro risplendente. | 12 I will make men more rare than fine gold, and mankind than the gold of Ophir. |
| 13 E turberò sopra questo lo cielo; e la terra si moverà del suo luogo, pella indignazione del Signore delli eserciti, e per lo die dell' ira del suo furore. | 13 Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken out of its place, at the wrath of the LORD of hosts in the day of his fierce anger. |
| 14 E sarà come la camozza (cioè una bestia) fuggente, e come la pecora; che non sarà chi la raduni; e ciascuno si rifuggirà al popolo suo, e ciascuno alla terra sua. | 14 And like a hunted gazelle, or like sheep with none to gather them, every man will turn to his own people, and every man will flee to his own land. |
| 15 Qualunque sarà trovato, sarà morto; e chiunque sarà sopra venuto, caderà nella bocca del coltello. | 15 Whoever is found will be thrust through, and whoever is caught will fall by the sword. |
| 16 Li loro fanciulli piccoli saranno percossi a terra inanzi alli loro occhi; e le loro case saranno rubate, e le loro mogli saranno sforzate. | 16 Their infants will be dashed in pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered and their wives ravished. |
| 17 Ecco io resusciterò sopra voi quelli di Media, i quali non addimandono nè vogliono nè argento nè oro; | 17 Behold, I am stirring up the Medes against them, who have no regard for silver and do not delight in gold. |
| 18 ma uccideranno li piccolini colle saette, e non averanno misericordia di quelli che popperanno, e lo loro occhio non perdonerà sopra li figliuoli. | 18 Their bows will slaughter the young men; they will have no mercy on the fruit of the womb; their eyes will not pity children. |
| 19 E quella Babilonia (cittade) gloriosa nelli reami, e nobile nella superbia de' Caldei, sarà rivolta, come Iddio rivolse Sodoma e Gomorra. | 19 And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the splendor and pride of the Chaldeans, will be like Sodom and Gomorrah when God overthrew them. |
| 20 Non sarà abitata infino alla fine, e non sarà fondata infino a parecchie generazioni; nè Arabi (cioè quelli di quella terra) vi porranno tende, nè li pastori vi si poseranno. | 20 It will never be inhabited or dwelt in for all generations; no Arab will pitch his tent there, no shepherds will make their flocks lie down there. |
| 21 ... e le loro case saranno piene di dragoni; e ivi abiteranno li struzzi, e li pilosi salteranno ivi. | 21 But wild beasts will lie down there, and its houses will be full of howling creatures; there ostriches will dwell, and there satyrs will dance. |
| 22 E ivi risponderanno con urli nelle sue case, e le sirene staranno nelli luoghi carnali. | 22 Hyenas will cry in its towers, and jackals in the pleasant palaces; its time is close at hand and its days will not be prolonged. |
