1 Adunque pronunciante Eliu, anco queste cose disse:	1 Then Elihu continued and said:
2 Udite, savii, le mie parole; e voi, ammaestrati, ascoltate me.	2 Hear, O wise men, my discourse, and you that have knowledge, hear me!
3 Certo l'orecchio prova le parole; e lo gorguzzolo l'esca collo assaggiare giudica.	3 For the ear tests words, as the taste does food.
4 Eleggiamo lo giudicio a noi, e intra noi giudichiamo quale sia lo migliore.	4 Let us discern for ourselves what is right; let us learn between us what is good.
5 Perciò che disse Iob: giusto sono, e Iddio sovvertì lo mio giudicio.	5 For Job has said, "I am innocent, but God has taken what is my due.
6 Certo, giudicando me, la bugia è; la sagitta mia è violenta senza alcuno peccato.	6 Notwithstanding my right I am set at nought; in my wound the arrow rankles, sinless though I am."
7 Chi è uomo, com' è Iob, che bee la derisione come acqua?	7 What man is like Job? He drinks in blasphemies like water,
8 Che va con coloro che òperano la iniquitade, e va con malvagi uomini?	8 Keeps company with evildoers and goes along with wicked men,
9 Certo elli disse: non piacerà l'uomo (ancora) a Dio, se ancora corresse con lui.	9 When he says, "It profits a man nought that he is pleasing to God."
10 E perciò, o uomini di buono cuore, udite me: partisi da Dio la empietà, e dall' Onnipotente la iniquitade.	10 Therefore, men of understanding, hearken to me: far be it from God to do wickedness; far from the Almighty to do wrong!
11 Certo la opera dell' uomo renderae a lui, e (appena) secondo la via di ciascheduno restituirà a lui.	11 Rather, he requites men for their conduct, and brings home to a man his way of life.
12 Veramente Iddio non condanna indarno, nè lo Onnipotente sovvertisce lo giudicio.	12 Surely, God cannot act wickedly, the Almighty cannot violate justice.
13 Quale altro constituì sopra la terra? ovver quale pose sopra lo mondo, lo quale elli fabbricò?	13 Who gave him government over the earth, or who else set all the land in its place?
14 Se dirizzerà a lui lo suo cuore, lo spirito suo e lo fiato a sè trarrà.	14 If he were to take back his spirit to himself, withdraw to himself his breath,
15 Verrà meno tutta la carne insieme, e l' uomo nella cenere ritornerà.	15 All flesh would perish together, and man would return to the dust.
16 Adunque se tu hai intelletto, odi quello che si dice, e ascolta la voce del mio parlare.	16 Now, do you, O Job, hear this! Hearken to the words I speak!
17 Colui che non ama lo giudicio, puote egli essere sanato? e come tu quello che è giusto, intanto lo condanni?	17 Can an enemy of justice indeed be in control, or will you condemn the supreme Just One,
18 Il quale dice allo re, partito dalla legge; lo qual chiama li duchi, malvagi;	18 Who says to a king, "You are worthless!" and to nobles, "You are wicked!"
19 lo quale non riceve le persone de' principi; nè non conosce lo tiranno, quando contende contro al povero; certo tutti quanti sono lavorìo delle sue mani.	19 Who neither favors the person of princes, nor respects the rich more than the poor? For they are all the work of his hands;
20 Subito morranno; e nella mezza notte li popoli saranno turbati, e trapasseranno, e porterannone la forza sanza mani.	20 in a moment they die, even at midnight. He brings on nobles, and takes them away, removing the powerful without lifting a hand;
21 E gli occhii suoi sopra le vie degli uomini; e tutti gli andamenti loro considera.	21 For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he beholds all his steps.
22 Non sono le tenebre, e non è l'ombra della morte, chè si nascondano quivi coloro che adòperano la iniquitade.	22 There is no darkness so dense that evildoers can hide in it.
23 Nè più oltre è nella signorìa dell' uomo, (accid) ch' elli venga a Dio nel giudicio.	23 For he forewarns no man of his time to come before God in judgment.
24 Triterà molti e senza numero, e farà stare altri per loro.	24 Without a trial he breaks the mighty, and sets others in their stead,
25 Per ch' egli ha conosciute l'opere loro; ed impercioe inducerae la notte, e fieno distrutti.	25 Therefore he discerns their works; he turns at night and crushes them.
26 Quasi come malvagi percosse loro nelli luoghi delli videnti.
27 I quali quasi della loro industria si partirono da lui, e tutte le sue vie non volleno intendere;	27 Because they turned away from him and heeded none of his ways,
28 acciò ch' elli faccino pervenire a lui lo grido dello bisognoso, e udire la voce de' poveri.	28 But caused the cries of the poor to reach him, so that he heard the plea of the afflicted.
29 Adunque, elli concedente pace, chi è che lo condanni? e quando nascondesse lo volto, chi è che contemplasse lui e sopra le genti e sopra ogni uomo?	29 If he remains tranquil, who then can condemn? If he hides his face, who then can behold him?
30 Il quale fae regnare l' uomo ipocrita per li peccati del popolo.
31 Adunque, per ch' io favellai al Signore, ancora non ti contraddirò se tu vorrai parlare.	31 When anyone says to God, "I was misguided; I will offend no more.
32 Se io errai, insegna a me; se io dissi cosa iniqua, più oltre non aggiugnerò.	32 Teach me wherein I have sinned; if I have done wrong, I will do so no more,"
33 Or non la cerca Iddio da te, perciò che la dispiace a te? In verità tu cominciasti a favellare, e non io; e se tu alcuna cosa conoscesti migliore, favella.	33 Would you then say that God must punish, since you reject what he is doing? It is you who must choose, not I; speak, therefore, what you know.
34 Gli uomini intendenti favellino a me, e l' uomo savio oda me.	34 Men of understanding will say to me, every wise man who hears my views:
35 E Iob stoltamente hae favellato; le parole sue non suonano disciplina.	35 "Job speaks without intelligence, and his words are without sense."
36 Padre mio, provisi Iob insino alla fine; non cessare di flagellare l' uomo iniquo,	36 Let Job be tried to the limit, since his answers are those of the impious;
37 il quale aggiugne sopra li peccati la blasfemia; ancora intra noi sia costretto; e allora provochi Iddio con suoi sermoni.	37 For he is adding rebellion to his sin by brushing off our arguments and addressing many words to God.
