| 1 - Nell'anno dodicesimo di Acaz, re di Giuda, cominciò a regnare Osea, figlio di Ela, in Samaria, e regnò sopra Israele nove anni. | 1 In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah Hoshea the son of Elah began to reign in Samaria over Israel, and he reigned nine years. |
| 2 Egli si diportò male al cospetto del Signore, ma non quanto i re d'Israele che furono prima di lui. | 2 And he did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, yet not as the kings of Israel who were before him. |
| 3 Contro di lui ascese Salmanasar, re di Assiria, e Osea divenne suo vassallo e gli pagava tributo. | 3 Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria; and Hoshea became his vassal, and paid him tribute. |
| 4 Avendo poi scoperto il re d'Assiria che Osea, volendosi ribellare, aveva mandato messaggeri a Sua, re d'Egitto, per non pagare al re d'Assiria i tributi, che ogni anno era solito inviare, lo assediò e dopo averlo vinto, lo mise in carcere. | 4 But the king of Assyria found treachery in Hoshea; for he had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year; therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison. |
| 5 Percorse poi tutta la regione, salì contro Samaria e l'assediò per tre anni. | 5 Then the king of Assyria invaded all the land and came to Samaria, and for three years he besieged it. |
| 6 Nell'anno nono di Osea, il re di Assiria prese Samaria e trasferì Israele prigioniero fino in Assiria e lo pose in Ala ed in Abor presso il fiume di Gozan, e nelle città della Media. | 6 In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria captured Samaria, and he carried the Israelites away to Assyria, and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes. |
| 7 Ciò avvenne perchè i figli di Israele peccarono contro il Signore loro Dio, che li aveva tratti dalla terra d'Egitto, dalla mano di Faraone re d'Egitto, e si erano dati al culto degli dèi stranieri. | 7 And this was so, because the people of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods |
| 8 Avevano inoltre adottato il genere di vita sia delle nazioni, che il Signore aveva sterminato dinanzi ai figli d'Israele, sia dei re d'Israele, che avevano fatto altrettanto. | 8 and walked in the customs of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel, and in the customs which the kings of Israel had introduced. |
| 9 Perciò i figli d'Israele, colle loro azioni peccaminose, avevano offeso il Signore loro Dio, si erano edificati alti luoghi in tutte le loro città, dalla torre di guardia fino alla città fortificata. | 9 And the people of Israel did secretly against the LORD their God things that were not right. They built for themselves high places at all their towns, from watchtower to fortified city; |
| 10 Avevano innalzato statue e piantato boschetti in ogni colle elevato, e sotto ogni pianta frondosa; | 10 they set up for themselves pillars and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree; |
| 11 vi bruciavano incenso sopra altari costruiti a modo delle genti, che il Signore aveva disperso dalla loro faccia e avevano colle loro opere perverse irritato il Signore; | 11 and there they burned incense on all the high places, as the nations did whom the LORD carried away before them. And they did wicked things, provoking the LORD to anger, |
| 12 adorarono delle immondezze, dalle quali il Signore aveva comandato di astenersi. | 12 and they served idols, of which the LORD had said to them, "You shall not do this." |
| 13 Il Signore fece avvertire Israele e Giuda per mezzo di tutti i profeti e veggenti, dicendo: «Convertitevi dalle vostre vie malvage e custodite i miei precetti e le mie leggi, seguendo interamente la legge che io ho prescritta ai vostri padri, e che io vi ho fatto pervenire per mezzo dei miei servi i profeti». | 13 Yet the LORD warned Israel and Judah by every prophet and every seer, saying, "Turn from your evil ways and keep my commandments and my statutes, in accordance with all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets." |
| 14 Ma essi non vollero dargli ascolto, ed indurarono la loro cervice, come avevano fatto i loro padri, che non avevano voluto ubbidire al Signore loro Dio, | 14 But they would not listen, but were stubborn, as their fathers had been, who did not believe in the LORD their God. |
| 15 e ne avevano calpestato gli ordini e il patto che egli aveva stipulato coi loro padri e gli avvertimenti, che aveva loro rivolti; e si erano invece dati a seguire le vanità, e ad agire stoltamente e avevano seguìto l'esempio delle genti, che stavano ai loro confini, riguardo alle quali il Signore aveva comandato di non fare quanto essi facevano. | 15 They despised his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and the warnings which he gave them. They went after false idols, and became false, and they followed the nations that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had commanded them that they should not do like them. |
| 16 Avevano inoltre trasgredito tutti i precetti del Signore loro Dio, e si erano fatti due vitelli fusi, avevano piantato dei boschetti, avevano adorato tutte le stelle del cielo, avevano servito Baal, | 16 And they forsook all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made for themselves molten images of two calves; and they made an Asherah, and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served Baal. |
| 17 e consacrati i figli loro, e le loro figlie, facendoli passare per il fuoco; si erano abbandonati alle divinazioni e agli incantesimi; si erano venduti per fare il male al cospetto del Signore e per irritarlo. | 17 And they burned their sons and their daughters as offerings, and used divination and sorcery, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger. |
| 18 Perciò il Signore sdegnatosi fortemente contro Israele lo rimosse dal suo cospetto, e non rimase che la sola tribù di Giuda. | 18 Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight; none was left but the tribe of Judah only. |
| 19 Ma neppur Giuda custodì i comandamenti del Signore Dio suo, ma camminò negli errori, che Israele aveva commesso. | 19 Judah also did not keep the commandments of the LORD their God, but walked in the customs which Israel had introduced. |
| 20 Perciò il Signore rigettò tutta la stirpe d'Israele, li umiliò, li abbandonò tra le mani degli oppressori, e finì per cacciarli lungi da sè. | 20 And the LORD rejected all the descendants of Israel, and afflicted them, and gave them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight. |
| 21 Fin da quando Israele si separò dalla casa di Davide e si proclamò re Geroboamo figlio di Nabat, Geroboamo distolse Israele dal seguire il Signore e gli fece commettere un peccato assai grave. | 21 When he had torn Israel from the house of David they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king. And Jeroboam drove Israel from following the LORD and made them commit great sin. |
| 22 I figli d'Israele si abbandonarono a tutte le colpe, che aveva commesso Geroboamo, e non se ne distolsero mai; | 22 The people of Israel walked in all the sins which Jeroboam did; they did not depart from them, |
| 23 finchè il Signore non tolse Israele dalla sua presenza, come aveva detto per mezzo di tutti i suoi servi, i profeti e Israele fu trasferito dal suo paese in Assiria, dove ancor oggi si trova. | 23 until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight, as he had spoken by all his servants the prophets. So Israel was exiled from their own land to Assyria until this day. |
| 24 Il re d'Assiria fece venir abitanti da Babilonia, da Cuta, da Ava, da Emat e da Sefarvaim e li stabilì in luogo dei figli d'Israele, nelle città di Samaria; essi presero possesso della Samaria e si stabilirono in quella città. | 24 And the king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, Cuthah, Avva, Hamath, and Sephar-vaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the people of Israel; and they took possession of Samaria, and dwelt in its cities. |
| 25 Quando cominciarono a dimorarvi, non temevano il Signore; e il Signore mandò contro di essi dei leoni, che ne fecero strage. | 25 And at the beginning of their dwelling there, they did not fear the LORD; therefore the LORD sent lions among them, which killed some of them. |
| 26 La cosa venne annunziata al re di Assiria con queste parole: «Le genti che tu hai trasferito e fatto abitare nelle città di Samaria ignorano le leggi del Dio del paese e perciò il Signore ha mandato contro di essi leoni che fanno strage, appunto perchè ignorano il culto del Dio del paese». | 26 So the king of Assyria was told, "The nations which you have carried away and placed in the cities of Samaria do not know the law of the god of the land; therefore he has sent lions among them, and behold, they are killing them, because they do not know the law of the god of the land." |
| 27 Allora il re d'Assiria diede quest'ordine: «Conducete colà uno dei sacerdoti, che avete di là condotto in schiavitù e vada ad abitare con essi e insegni loro le leggi del Dio del paese». | 27 Then the king of Assyria commanded, "Send there one of the priests whom you carried away thence; and let him go and dwell there, and teach them the law of the god of the land." |
| 28 Essendo adunque venuto uno dei sacerdoti, che erano stati condotti prigionieri da Samaria, si stabilì in Betel e ammaestrava gli abitanti sul modo di onorare il Signore. | 28 So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD. |
| 29 Ciascuna di quelle nazioni si fabbricò la propria divinità e la collocò nei santuari posti sulle alte colline, fabbricate dai Samaritani, ciascuna nazione nella città nella quale abitava. | 29 But every nation still made gods of its own, and put them in the shrines of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in the cities in which they dwelt; |
| 30 Così quei di Babilonia fecero Socotbenot; quei di Cuta fecero Nergel; quei di Emat fecero Asima; | 30 the men of Babylon made Succoth-benoth, the men of Cuth made Nergal, the men of Hamath made Ashima, |
| 31 quei di Ava fecero Nebaaz e Tartac; quelli che poi erano di Sefarvaim bruciarono i loro figli nel fuoco in onore di Adramelec e di Anamelec, dèi di Sefarvaim. | 31 and the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak; and the Sepharvites burned their children in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sephar-vaim. |
| 32 Tuttavia adoravano anche il Signore, e si crearono, scegliendoli tra la gente più vile, dei sacerdoti degli alti luoghi e li posero nei santuari sulle alture, | 32 They also feared the LORD, and appointed from among themselves all sorts of people as priests of the high places, who sacrificed for them in the shrines of the high places. |
| 33 e pur onorando il Signore servivano anche alle loro divinità secondo gli usi dei popoli, dai quali erano stati trasferiti in Samaria. | 33 So they feared the LORD but also served their own gods, after the manner of the nations from among whom they had been carried away. |
| 34 Fino a questi giorni essi seguono l'antico costume, non temono il Signore, nè osservano le cerimonie, gli ordini, la legge e i precetti imposti dal Signore ai figli di Giacobbe, da lui chiamato Israele, | 34 To this day they do according to the former manner. They do not fear the LORD, and they do not follow the statutes or the ordinances or the law or the commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel. |
| 35 coi quali aveva stretto un patto, e dato questo comando: «Non vogliate onorare gli dèi stranieri, non adorateli, non serviteli e non offrite loro sacrifici, | 35 The LORD made a covenant with them, and commanded them, "You shall not fear other gods or bow yourselves to them or serve them or sacrifice to them; |
| 36 ma onorate soltanto il Signore Dio vostro, che vi trasse dall'Egitto con grande forza e col braccio teso; lui adorate, e a lui offrite sacrifici. | 36 but you shall fear the LORD, who brought you out of the land of Egypt with great power and with an outstretched arm; you shall bow yourselves to him, and to him you shall sacrifice. |
| 37 Osservate poi, per metterli in pratica ogni giorno, i suoi riti, i suoi comandi, la sua legge, i precetti, che scrisse per voi; non temete altri dèi, | 37 And the statutes and the ordinances and the law and the commandment which he wrote for you, you shall always be careful to do. You shall not fear other gods, |
| 38 e non vogliate dimenticare l'alleanza che fece, e non onorate divinità straniere, | 38 and you shall not forget the covenant that I have made with you. You shall not fear other gods, |
| 39 ma temete il Signore Dio vostro, ed egli vi toglierà dalle mani di tutti i vostri nemici». | 39 but you shall fear the LORD your God, and he will deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies." |
| 40 Essi però non diedero ascolto, ma agirono secondo le loro antiche usanze. | 40 However they would not listen, but they did according to their former manner. |
| 41 Perciò queste genti temettero sì il Signore, ma nel tempo stesso servirono anche i loro idoli, e così i loro figli e i nipoti continuano a fare fino ad ora quanto fecero i padri loro. | 41 So these nations feared the LORD, and also served their graven images; their children likewise, and their children's children--as their fathers did, so they do to this day. |
