Terza Epistola di San Ioanne Apostolo 1

BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Il vecchio (manda salute) al suo carissimo Gaio, il quale io amo in verità.	1 From the Elder: greetings to my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in truth.
2 Carissimo, per te faccio orazione, che tu possi andare e stare prosperamente in tutte le cose, secondo ch' è la tua anima prosperevole.	2 My dear friend, I hope everything is going happily with you and that you are as well physical y as youare spiritual y.
3 Son molto allegro delli fratelli che vengono; si rendono buona testimonianza alla tua verità, secondo che tu vai per la verità.	3 It was a great joy to me when some brothers came and told of your faithfulness to the truth, and of yourlife in the truth.
4 Chè maggiore grazia non mi pare avere, che quando io odo che li figliuoli miei vanno per la verità.	4 It is always my greatest joy to hear that my children are living according to the truth.
5 Carissimo, fedelmente fai quello che tu adoperi intra i fratelli, e (massimamente) a coloro che son fuori di casa e in viaggio.	5 My dear friend, you have done loyal work in helping these brothers, even though they were strangers toyou.
6 Li quali tutti rendono testimonianza della tua carità nel conspetto (di tutta la congregazione) della Chiesa; alli quali ben farai, conducendoli degnamente a Iddio.	6 They are a proof to the whole Church of your love and it would be a kindness if you could help them ontheir journey as God would approve.
7 Chè egli per nome del nostro re Iesù Cristo son andati, non ricevendo neuna cosa dalle genti.	7 It was entirely for the sake of the name that they set out, without depending on the non-believers foranything:
8 Noi dovemo ricevere questi cotali, perchè noi siamo participi e operatori della verità.	8 it is our duty to welcome people of this sort and contribute our share to their work for the truth.
9 Avrei forse scritto a tutta la (congregazione) della) Chiesa; ma Diotrefe, il quale ha voglia d'avere signoria tra coloro, non ci ricevette.	9 I have written a note for the members of the church, but Diotrephes, who enjoys being in charge of it,refuses to accept us.
10 E per questo, s' io verrò, ammonirò le sue opere ch' egli fa, garrendo con parole (aspre e) maligne; al quale non gli bastano queste cose, ma ancora nè egli riceve li fratelli; e a coloro che li ricevono, sì gli vieta, e cacciagli fuori della Chiesa.	10 So if I come, I shal tel everyone how he has behaved, and about the wicked accusations he has beencirculating against us. As if that were not enough, he not only refuses to welcome our brothers, but prevents fromdoing so other people who would have liked to, and expels them from the church.
11 Ma tu, carissimo, non pigliare il male esempio, ma piglia il buono. Chè quelli che bene fa, egli è da Dio; e quegli che fa male, non vede Iddio.	11 My dear friend, never fol ow a bad example, but keep fol owing the good one; whoever does what isright is from God, but no one who does what is wrong has ever seen God.
12 A Demetrio è renduta (buona) testimonianza da tutti, e da quella medesima verità; e noi gli rendiamo ancora testimonio, e conoscete che il nostro testimonio è vero.	12 Demetrius has been approved by everyone, and indeed by Truth itself. We too wil vouch for him andyou know that our testimony is true.
13 Molte cose averei a scrivere a te; ma non ho voluto con penna e con inchiostro scrivere a te più.	13 There were several things I had to tel you but I would rather not trust them to pen and ink.
14 Ho speranza di vederti prestamente, e parleremo a bocca a bocca. Pace sia a te. Salùtanti gli amici tuoi; e tu saluta gli miei per nome.	14 However, I hope to see you soon and talk to you in person.
	15 Peace be with you; greetings from your friends; greet each of our friends by name.
