1 Getta il tuo pane sulle acque che passano, chè dopo molto tempo lo ritroverai.	1 Cast your bread upon the waters; after a long time you may find it again.
2 Dànne sette parti ed anche otto, perchè non sai che sciagura verrà sulla terra.	2 Make seven or eight portions; you know not what misfortune may come upon the earth.
3 Quando le nubi son piene scarican l'acqua sulla terra: l'albero, o cada a mezzodì o a tramontana, dove cade resta.	3 When the clouds are full, they pour out rain upon the earth. Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north, wherever it falls, there shall it lie.
4 Chi guarda ai venti non semina, e chi sta a guardar le nuvole non miete mai.	4 One who pays heed to the wind will not sow, and one who watches the clouds will never reap.
5 Come non sai donde venga l'anima, nè in qual modo si formino le ossa nel seno alla donna incinta, così non conosci le opere di Dio che ha fatto tutte le cose.	5 Just as you know not how the breath of life fashions the human frame in the mother's womb, So you know not the work of God which he is accomplishing in the universe.
6 Fin dalla mattina spargi il tuo seme, e la sera non stia oziosa la tua mano: perchè non sai quale verrà su, se questo o quello; se l'uno e l'altro insieme, tanto meglio.	6 In the morning sow your seed, and at evening let not your hand be idle: For you know not which of the two will be successful, or whether both alike will turn out well.
7 Dolce cosa è la luce, e dilettevole agli occhi è la vista del sole.	7 Light is sweet! and it is pleasant for the eyes to see the sun.
8 Se un uomo vivrà molti anni e tutti pieni di gioia, deve pensare ai giorni tenebrosi, e saranno molti, venuti i quali, tutte le cose passate saranno accusate di vanità.	8 However many years a man may live, let him, as he enjoys them all, remember that the days of darkness will be many. All that is to come is vanity.
9 Godi adunque, o giovane, nella tua fresca età, gioisca il tuo cuore nei giorni della tua giovinezza. Segui pure le inclinazioni del tuo cuore, quello che piace ai tuoi occhi; ma pensa che per tutte queste cose Dio ti chiamerà in giudizio.	9 Rejoice, O young man, while you are young and let your heart be glad in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart, the vision of your eyes; Yet understand that as regards all this God will bring you to judgment.
10 Discaccia dal tuo cuore l'ira, tien lontano il male dalla tua carne; chè gioventù e piaceri son cose vane.	10 Ward off grief from your heart and put away trouble from your presence, though the dawn of youth is fleeting.
