1 וַאֲנִי בִּשְׁנַת אַחַת לְדָרְיָוֶשׁ הַמָּדִי עָמְדִי לְמַחֲזִיק וּלְמָעֹוז לֹו	1 She prospered their works in the hands of the holy prophet.
2 וְעַתָּה אֱמֶת אַגִּיד לָךְ הִנֵּה־עֹוד שְׁלֹשָׁה מְלָכִים עֹמְדִים לְפָרַס וְהָרְבִיעִי יַעֲשִׁיר עֹשֶׁר־גָּדֹול מִכֹּל וּכְחֶזְקָתֹו בְעָשְׁרֹו יָעִיר הַכֹּל אֵת מַלְכוּת יָוָן	2 They went through wildernesses that were not inhabited, and in desert places they pitched their tents.
3 וְעָמַד מֶלֶךְ גִּבֹּור וּמָשַׁל מִמְשָׁל רַב וְעָשָׂה כִּרְצֹונֹו	3 They stood against their enemies, and revenged themselves of their adversaries.
4 וּכְעָמְדֹו תִּשָּׁבֵר מַלְכוּתֹו וְתֵחָץ לְאַרְבַּע רוּחֹות הַשָּׁמָיִם וְלֹא לְאַחֲרִיתֹו וְלֹא כְמָשְׁלֹו אֲשֶׁר מָשָׁל כִּי תִנָּתֵשׁ מַלְכוּתֹו וְלַאֲחֵרִים מִלְּבַד־אֵלֶּה	4 They were thirsty, and they called upon thee, and water was given them out of the high rock, and a refreshment of their thirst out of the hard stone.
5 וְיֶחֱזַק מֶלֶךְ־הַנֶּגֶב וּמִן־שָׂרָיו וְיֶחֱזַק עָלָיו וּמָשָׁל מִמְשָׁל רַב מֶמְשַׁלְתֹּו	5 For by what things their enemies were punished, when their drink failed them, while the children of Israel abounded therewith and rejoiced:
6 וּלְקֵץ שָׁנִים יִתְחַבָּרוּ וּבַת מֶלֶךְ־הַנֶּגֶב תָּבֹוא אֶל־מֶלֶךְ הַצָּפֹון לַעֲשֹׂות מֵישָׁרִים וְלֹא־תַעְצֹר כֹּוחַ הַזְּרֹועַ וְלֹא יַעֲמֹד וּזְרֹעֹו וְתִנָּתֵן הִיא וּמְבִיאֶיהָ וְהַיֹּלְדָהּ וּמַחֲזִקָהּ בָּעִתִּים	6 By the same things they in their need were benefited.
7 וְעָמַד מִנֵּצֶר שָׁרָשֶׁיהָ כַּנֹּו וְיָבֹא אֶל־הַחַיִל וְיָבֹא בְּמָעֹוז מֶלֶךְ הַצָּפֹון וְעָשָׂה בָהֶם וְהֶחֱזִיק	7 For instead of a fountain of an ever running river, thou gavest human blood to the unjust.
8 וְגַם אֱ‍לֹהֵיהֶם עִם־נְסִכֵיהֶם עִם־כְּלֵי חֶמְדָּתָם כֶּסֶף וְזָהָב בַּשְּׁבִי יָבִא מִצְרָיִם וְהוּא שָׁנִים יַעֲמֹד מִמֶּלֶךְ הַצָּפֹון	8 And whilst they were diminished for a manifest reproof of their murdering the infants, thou gavest to thine abundant water unlooked for:
9 וּבָא בְּמַלְכוּת מֶלֶךְ הַנֶּגֶב וְשָׁב אֶל־אַדְמָתֹו	9 Shewing by the thirst that was then, how thou didst exalt thine, and didst kill their adversaries.
10 [וּבְנֹו כ] (וּבָנָיו ק) יִתְגָּרוּ וְאָסְפוּ הֲמֹון חֲיָלִים רַבִּים וּבָא בֹוא וְשָׁטַף וְעָבָר וְיָשֹׁב [וְיִתְגָּרוּ כ] (וְיִתְגָּרֶה ק) עַד־ [מָעֻזָּה כ] (מָעֻזֹּו׃ ק)	10 For when they were tried, and chastised with mercy, they knew how the wicked were judged with wrath and tormented.
11 וְיִתְמַרְמַר מֶלֶךְ הַנֶּגֶב וְיָצָא וְנִלְחַם עִמֹּו עִם־מֶלֶךְ הַצָּפֹון וְהֶעֱמִיד הָמֹון רָב וְנִתַּן הֶהָמֹון בְּיָדֹו	11 For thou didst admonish and try them as a father: but the others, as a severe king, thou didst examine and condemn.
12 וְנִשָּׂא הֶהָמֹון [יָרוּם כ] (וְרָם ק) לְבָבֹו וְהִפִּיל רִבֹּאֹות וְלֹא יָעֹוז	12 For whether absent or present, they were tormented alike.
13 וְשָׁב מֶלֶךְ הַצָּפֹון וְהֶעֱמִיד הָמֹון רַב מִן־הָרִאשֹׁון וּלְקֵץ הָעִתִּים שָׁנִים יָבֹוא בֹוא בְּחַיִל גָּדֹול וּבִרְכוּשׁ רָב	13 For a double affliction came upon them, and a groaning for the remembrance of things past.
14 וּבָעִתִּים הָהֵם רַבִּים יַעַמְדוּ עַל־מֶלֶךְ הַנֶּגֶב וּבְנֵי ׀ פָּרִיצֵי עַמְּךָ יִנַּשְּׂאוּ לְהַעֲמִיד חָזֹון וְנִכְשָׁלוּ	14 For when they heard that by their punishments the others were benefited, they remembered the Lord, wondering at the end of what was come to pass.
15 וְיָבֹא מֶלֶךְ הַצָּפֹון וְיִשְׁפֹּךְ סֹולֲלָה וְלָכַד עִיר מִבְצָרֹות וּזְרֹעֹות הַנֶּגֶב לֹא יַעֲמֹדוּ וְעַם מִבְחָרָיו וְאֵין כֹּחַ לַעֲמֹד	15 For whom they scorned before, when he was thrown out at the time of his being wickedly exposed to perish, him they admired in the end, when they saw the event: their thirsting being unlike to that of the just.
16 וְיַעַשׂ הַבָּא אֵלָיו כִּרְצֹונֹו וְאֵין עֹומֵד לְפָנָיו וְיַעֲמֹד בְּאֶרֶץ־הַצְּבִי וְכָלָה בְיָדֹו	16 But for the foolish devices of their iniquity, because some being deceived worshipped dumb serpents and worthless beasts, thou didst send upon them a multitude of dumb beasts for vengeance.
17 וְיָשֵׂם ׀ פָּנָיו לָבֹוא בְּתֹקֶף כָּל־מַלְכוּתֹו וִישָׁרִים עִמֹּו וְעָשָׂה וּבַת הַנָּשִׁים יִתֶּן־לֹו לְהַשְׁחִיתָהּ וְלֹא תַעֲמֹד וְלֹא־לֹו תִהְיֶה	17 That they might know that by what things a man sinneth, by the same also he is tormented.
18 [וְיָשֵׁב כ] (וְיָשֵׂם ׀ ק) פָּנָיו לְאִיִּים וְלָכַד רַבִּים וְהִשְׁבִּית קָצִין חֶרְפָּתֹו לֹו בִּלְתִּי חֶרְפָּתֹו יָשִׁיב לֹו	18 For thy almighty hand, which made the world of matter without form, was not unable to send upon them a multitude of bears, or fierce lions,
19 וְיָשֵׁב פָּנָיו לְמָעוּזֵּי אַרְצֹו וְנִכְשַׁל וְנָפַל וְלֹא יִמָּצֵא	19 Or unknown beasts of a new kind, full of rage: either breathing out a fiery vapour, or sending forth a stinking smoke, or shooting horrible sparks out of their eyes:
20 וְעָמַד עַל־כַּנֹּו מַעֲבִיר נֹוגֵשׂ הֶדֶר מַלְכוּת וּבְיָמִים אֲחָדִים יִשָּׁבֵר וְלֹא בְאַפַּיִם וְלֹא בְמִלְחָמָה	20 Whereof not only the hurt might be able to destroy them, but also the very sight might kill them through fear.
21 וְעָמַד עַל־כַּנֹּו נִבְזֶה וְלֹא־נָתְנוּ עָלָיו הֹוד מַלְכוּת וּבָא בְשַׁלְוָה וְהֶחֱזִיק מַלְכוּת בַּחֲלַקְלַקֹּות	21 Yea and without these, they might have been slain with one blast, persecuted by their own deeds, and scattered by the breath of thy power: but thou hast ordered all things in measure, and number, and weight.
22 וּזְרֹעֹות הַשֶּׁטֶף יִשָּׁטְפוּ מִלְּפָנָיו וְיִשָּׁבֵרוּ וְגַם נְגִיד בְּרִית	22 For great power always belonged to thee alone: and who shall resist the strength of thy arm?
23 וּמִן־הִתְחַבְּרוּת אֵלָיו יַעֲשֶׂה מִרְמָה וְעָלָה וְעָצַם בִּמְעַט־גֹּוי	23 For the whole world before thee is as the least grain of the balance, and as a drop of the morning dew, that falleth down upon the earth:
24 בְּשַׁלְוָה וּבְמִשְׁמַנֵּי מְדִינָה יָבֹוא וְעָשָׂה אֲשֶׁר לֹא־עָשׂוּ אֲבֹתָיו וַאֲבֹות אֲבֹתָיו בִּזָּה וְשָׁלָל וּרְכוּשׁ לָהֶם יִבְזֹור וְעַל מִבְצָרִים יְחַשֵּׁב מַחְשְׁבֹתָיו וְעַד־עֵת	24 But thou hast mercy upon all, because thou canst do all things, and overlookest the sins of men for the sake of repentance.
25 וְיָעֵר כֹּחֹו וּלְבָבֹו עַל־מֶלֶךְ הַנֶּגֶב בְּחַיִל גָּדֹול וּמֶלֶךְ הַנֶּגֶב יִתְגָּרֶה לַמִּלְחָמָה בְּחַיִל־גָּדֹול וְעָצוּם עַד־מְאֹד וְלֹא יַעֲמֹד כִּי־יַחְשְׁבוּ עָלָיו מַחֲשָׁבֹות	25 For thou lovest all things that are, and hatest none of the things which thou hast made: for thou didst not appoint, or make any thing hating it.
26 וְאֹכְלֵי פַת־בָּגֹו יִשְׁבְּרוּהוּ וְחֵילֹו יִשְׁטֹוף וְנָפְלוּ חֲלָלִים רַבִּים	26 And how could any thing endure, if thou wouldst not? or be preserved, if not called by thee.
27 וּשְׁנֵיהֶם הַמְּלָכִים לְבָבָם לְמֵרָע וְעַל־שֻׁלְחָן אֶחָד כָּזָב יְדַבֵּרוּ וְלֹא תִצְלָח כִּי־עֹוד קֵץ לַמֹּועֵד	27 But thou sparest all: because they are thine, O Lord, who lovest souls.
28 וְיָשֹׁב אַרְצֹו בִּרְכוּשׁ גָּדֹול וּלְבָבֹו עַל־בְּרִית קֹדֶשׁ וְעָשָׂה וְשָׁב לְאַרְצֹו
29 לַמֹּועֵד יָשׁוּב וּבָא בַנֶּגֶב וְלֹא־תִהְיֶה כָרִאשֹׁנָה וְכָאַחֲרֹנָה
30 וּבָאוּ בֹו צִיִּים כִּתִּים וְנִכְאָה וְשָׁב וְזָעַם עַל־בְּרִית־קֹודֶשׁ וְעָשָׂה וְשָׁב וְיָבֵן עַל־עֹזְבֵי בְּרִית קֹדֶשׁ
31 וּזְרֹעִים מִמֶּנּוּ יַעֲמֹדוּ וְחִלְּלוּ הַמִּקְדָּשׁ הַמָּעֹוז וְהֵסִירוּ הַתָּמִיד וְנָתְנוּ הַשִּׁקּוּץ מְשֹׁומֵם
32 וּמַרְשִׁיעֵי בְרִית יַחֲנִיף בַּחֲלַקֹּות וְעַם יֹדְעֵי אֱלֹהָיו יַחֲזִקוּ וְעָשׂוּ
33 וּמַשְׂכִּילֵי עָם יָבִינוּ לָרַבִּים וְנִכְשְׁלוּ בְּחֶרֶב וּבְלֶהָבָה בִּשְׁבִי וּבְבִזָּה יָמִים
34 וּבְהִכָּשְׁלָם יֵעָזְרוּ עֵזֶר מְעָט וְנִלְווּ עֲלֵיהֶם רַבִּים בַּחֲלַקְלַקֹּות
35 וּמִן־הַמַּשְׂכִּילִים יִכָּשְׁלוּ לִצְרֹוף בָּהֶם וּלְבָרֵר וְלַלְבֵּן עַד־עֵת קֵץ כִּי־עֹוד לַמֹּועֵד
36 וְעָשָׂה כִרְצֹונֹו הַמֶּלֶךְ וְיִתְרֹומֵם וְיִתְגַּדֵּל עַל־כָּל־אֵל וְעַל אֵל אֵלִים יְדַבֵּר נִפְלָאֹות וְהִצְלִיחַ עַד־כָּלָה זַעַם כִּי נֶחֱרָצָה נֶעֱשָׂתָה
37 וְעַל־אֱלֹהֵי אֲבֹתָיו לֹא יָבִין וְעַל־חֶמְדַּת נָשִׁים וְעַל־כָּל־אֱלֹוהַּ לֹא יָבִין כִּי עַל־כֹּל יִתְגַּדָּל
38 וְלֶאֱלֹהַּ מָעֻזִּים עַל־כַּנֹּו יְכַבֵּד וְלֶאֱלֹוהַּ אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יְדָעֻהוּ אֲבֹתָיו יְכַבֵּד בְּזָהָב וּבְכֶסֶף וּבְאֶבֶן יְקָרָה וּבַחֲמֻדֹות
39 וְעָשָׂה לְמִבְצְרֵי מָעֻזִּים עִם־אֱלֹוהַּ נֵכָר אֲשֶׁר [הִכִּיר כ] (יַכִּיר ק) יַרְבֶּה כָבֹוד וְהִמְשִׁילָם בָּרַבִּים וַאֲדָמָה יְחַלֵּק בִּמְחִיר
40 וּבְעֵת קֵץ יִתְנַגַּח עִמֹּו מֶלֶךְ הַנֶּגֶב וְיִשְׂתָּעֵר עָלָיו מֶלֶךְ הַצָּפֹון בְּרֶכֶב וּבְפָרָשִׁים וּבָאֳנִיֹּות רַבֹּות וּבָא בַאֲרָצֹות וְשָׁטַף וְעָבָר
41 וּבָא בְּאֶרֶץ הַצְּבִי וְרַבֹּות יִכָּשֵׁלוּ וְאֵלֶּה יִמָּלְטוּ מִיָּדֹו אֱדֹום וּמֹואָב וְרֵאשִׁית בְּנֵי עַמֹּון
42 וְיִשְׁלַח יָדֹו בַּאֲרָצֹות וְאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם לֹא תִהְיֶה לִפְלֵיטָה
43 וּמָשַׁל בְּמִכְמַנֵּי הַזָּהָב וְהַכֶּסֶף וּבְכֹל חֲמֻדֹות מִצְרָיִם וְלֻבִים וְכֻשִׁים בְּמִצְעָדָיו
44 וּשְׁמֻעֹות יְבַהֲלֻהוּ מִמִּזְרָח וּמִצָּפֹון וְיָצָא בְּחֵמָא גְדֹלָה לְהַשְׁמִיד וּלְהַחֲרִים רַבִּים
45 וְיִטַּע אָהֳלֶי אַפַּדְנֹו בֵּין יַמִּים לְהַר־צְבִי־קֹדֶשׁ וּבָא עַד־קִצֹּו וְאֵין עֹוזֵר לֹו
